Here is a list of what Halo:Reach does.........

Halo:Reach (What we know is in the game)

Campaign: 4players Co-Op (larger numbers unconfirmed by Bungie) (Matchmaking, and Splitscreen, and System Link), Difficulty, Gameplay Modifiers, Metagame(scoring system, competitive, or co-operative)

Firefight: 4 players (larger numbers unconfirmed by Bungie), Difficulty, endless customization (http://www.bungie.net/News/content.aspx?type=topnews&link=BWU_061810- Read section called "Firefight 2.OMG!"), Matchmaking and System link for 4 players, Split-Screen for 2 players.

Multiplayer: 16 player online (larger numbers unconfirmed by Bungie), 4 player local split-screen and system link, guests are included, endless numbers of modes (Slayer, Team Slayer, King of the Hill, Invasion, Stockpile, Headhunter,Oddball, Juggernaut, Capture the Flag, Assault, Infection, Grifball, Safe Havens, Territories, VIP, Race)

Theater: Recording and saved films of all recent matches, which can be forwarded, and rewound. Also includes Bungie Pro Video service, which can render your videos in 720p HD without the need for any capture card.

Forge (speculatory): Confirmed to be in Reach, but in what extent is unknown. All we know, is that it will be improved drastically (Forge in Halo 3 was created in a Month. Halo Reach has had 3 years for Forge improvements. That level of time differenceis massive.)

So, with all these features, which can make a real drastic hit in performance, isn't it incredible that the game still manages to look this good?

first off Halo reach will be the best looking FPS on the 360 upon launch, atleast until crysis 2 comes out 2 monthsor so later so yeah with all those features that can take a hit on preformance halo reach is one heck of a technical achievment, just having MSAAx2 with full true HDR is very tasking on the GPU but reach does itwith out a problem. graphics are amazingtechnically no one can deny it, then there' the huge diffrences between Reach and halo 3 Bungie didn't go for the "more of the same approach that many devs are doing *looks at infinity ward* then there's the features arena alone is more than what most games this gen have, add in the credits system, forged maps, firefight, and campaign with co op and I don't think a game on consoles is even in the remote vicinity of Reach.

Yes. Which is the only reason Halo is good. It has basic gameplay etc. It's the options that make it. If only other shooters had these kind of options. Then we could buy games that have better gameplay (Resistance: FOM, KZ3, COD) without having to worry about the lack of features.

how do features have any effect on the performance? having theatre, forge mode, firefight and multiplayer does not do anything to the performance. all it does is fill up more space on the disc :?

From what we know, I think it is. Maybe Gears 3 will have more features. Can't wait to see how Horde has been improved and the new Beast Mode.

Some of them really only effect performance through the time spent on them could have be spent on the graphics itself, but theater and the split screen components of halo's multiplayer have large effects on its performance. Theater has to constantly track and save everything going on even beyond what you may see on-screen. While split-screen requires the game to be rendered several times in order to create a split-screen experience.

Things like Split-Screen and Theater means that Bungie cannot really take chances with parts of the map. Other devs who don't have these features can easily save memory and space, by making some parts of the played map 2D, which won't be seen by the player. The inclusion of theater, on the other hand, results in Bungie having to build every part of the map to the same standard, which is much more work.

Also, Split-Screen takes up more resources, simply because it has to monitor more than one player's actions on the screen.

Spoken like a true fanboy....You're comparing Halo to the most avg and generic games which are KZ and Resistance?

Halo is so popular because of its core gameplay which started from Halo CE when all these features weren't present...these extra features just add on to a very solid and fun gameplay. Halo is not like your KZs and CoDs which just upgrade their graphics and slap a new number at the end. Maybe.

The thing is, with Reach, is that this is what we know so far, and yet there is a load of things that we do not know about the game, at all!

Bungie is really keeping quite a few secrets, some of which could be revealed in the next few months.

The only thing we really know, is that this will be one heck of a game!

Halo doesn't have great gameplay. Seriously. KZ has great gameplay. There's a real sense of weight to your movement, the AI is good, the cover system works very well. Resistance has great gameplay too, and is DEFINITELY NOT GENERIC, at least Fall of Man. It has creative weapons (Auger, Bullseye, Hailstorm), fast paced gameplay, great controls, lots of players, coop, a good story etc. If any shooter is generic it's Halo. It's just a PC shooter on a console.

Wait........

What?

KZ doesn't have a real sense of weight. It's just sloppy.

The AI is good, but so is Halo's (The enemy AI, at least). Played Legendary Solo on Halo 1-3? Thought so.

Resistance's gameplay is so bad it's not even funny. It'sgameplay sucks, it's story is even worse, and the only redeeming factor it's its weapons and Co-Op.

Also, tried to fire a fareye in Resistance 2? That gun has so much auto-aim, the devs should have just put a lock-on feature on the bloody gun!

Used the Marksman? It's basically a Like-For Like port of the Halo 3 Br ,with some extra damage and some secondary fire, so It doesn't look like it's copying anything.

Finally, Halo is not generic. It made other shooters Generic. If you want to know what is Generic, it's your opinion on Halo.

Again you either have never played Halo seriously or tried to play but got owned. If KZs gameplay is so great than why don't the 3 million ppl that bought the game play it online anymore? I am not even going to talk about Resistance because even most PS3 owners know how avg that game is but some (like you)cling to it because its an exclsuive.

PS3 may excel at genres like Action Adventure, but please 360's shooters like GeOW, Halo, L4D etc completely destroy anything on the PS3.

Yeah because a game that avgs barely 10K players online a WEEK is a real online game? Halo is the "realest" online shooter on consoles (and millions agree)...wether you like or not.

Halo in general has always offered more features than most shooters on consoles. I don't believe any shooter on consoles has even matched Halo 3 in terms of features. However, it is Halo so therefore, it must be hated on. It can never be acknowledged for anything either. Other games cause fans to get giddy off the announcement of two-player co-op as if it's impressive. Halo is the only reason I owned an Xbox. I know people believe you shouldn't buy a system for one game but I firmly believe Halo is worth it. I enjoy it more than PC shooters (except TF2, I've moved on from everything else) and I don't even buy shooters for my PS3.

Player count doesn't matter as much. PS3 shooters are not marketed as much as Halo is, and most of the PS3 owners that I know just play CoD. Trust me, it's not Killzone's fault that it only has 10K players online a Week. It's an aweseome game (save for the controls), and deserves more players.

Yeah, apparently Halo:Reach is going to have a fully fledged race mode, with tracks, checkpoints, and obstacles, like Landmines. This coupled with the New Forge (Which Bungie has to reveal sooner or later), will be immense!

Yeah but KZ2 was supposed to be the PS3s killerap...and 3 mill is still quite a large number. GeoW, when it was around that 3 millmark had a huge online population.

When GeoW was released, there was no Widespread adoption of Call of Duty, or even Halo 3 for that matter.

GeoW was the online game to play in 2006.

KZ was released after CoD 4, and CoD:WaW. Unfortunately, PS3 players seem to play that game much more than anything else.

Its highly likely. From what i remember, Halo 3 was the most jampacked game at the time. No doubt reach will further that.

But the title of the most jampacked game overall still resides with SSBB.

[QUOTE="dkjestrup"]Yes. Which is the only reason Halo is good. It has basic gameplay etc. It's the options that make it. If only other shooters had these kind of options. Then we could buy games that have better gameplay (Resistance: FOM, KZ3, COD) without having to worry about the lack of features.

halo is popular because of it's gameplay. No other gps can hold a stick to halo's gameplay

[QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"]Considering that, and the various multiplayer game modes it will have, I would say so.siddhu33

Yeah, apparently Halo:Reach is going to have a fully fledged race mode, with tracks, checkpoints, and obstacles, like Landmines. This coupled with the New Forge (Which Bungie has to reveal sooner or later), will be immense!

It will, and I hope it's on it's own "racing" playlist.

[QUOTE="BURSTIIIFIRE"]

Yeah because a game that avgs barely 10K players online a WEEK is a real online game? Halo is the "realest" online shooter on consoles (and millions agree)...wether you like or not.

BURSTIIIFIRE

Any game that you can play online is an online game, your "REAL" BS is the most ridiculous nonsense i have ever heard.

Alright yeah the "real" thing was maybe wrong but you get my point...If KZ2 was an above avg online game than it would have a larger online population.

I don't really think online population is the best way to judge a game, i mean i had a decent amount of fun with the online, but i am not a huge fan of online FPS games. I spent about as much time with KZ2 as i did with halo 3, which is about 20 hoursand then i got bored of them. Each game had there advantages though, Halo = Vehicles, KZ2 = cIass system.

They should let us do multi-player spaceship battles.

Simply put: Yes Now if only they could implement those space battles into multiplayer as an invasion map! Battle in space, board a Covenant carrier, carry a nuke into the core of the ship, everyone dies!

[QUOTE="dkjestrup"]Halo doesn't have great gameplay. It's just a PC shooter on a console. siddhu33

You know, you were fine until you said the colored text.

I played Halo for 1-2 years and I still find Resistance better. I had a 2.0 K/D. Resistance is also far above average.

Hey, had to end with a strong line, whether it was true or not is irrelevant!

Also, i kinda meant on consoles, as that was the topic. PC shooters may be better than Halo, but that's also kinda subjective.

I mean, it did kinda include quite a few things, like two weapons and theinclusion of thehealth and shield strategy, which has only kinda worked in two shooters thus far, Crysis, and Halo.

Its highly likely. From what i remember, Halo 3 was the most jampacked game at the time. No doubt reach will further that.

But the title of the most jampacked game overall still resides with SSBB.

siddhu33

I dunno, Reach seems to be competing...

I think its the closest to come as of yet. Not to take anything away from Reach, it looks amazing but brawl was just....... I sometimes forget how much stuff they put into that tiny disc.

Story mode: single player, co-op, online co-op

Classic mode:

multiplayer: special brawl, standard, race

online brawl:

Events: single, co-op

Stadium!!: Home-run, target smash, multi man brawl

training:

Time attack:

Spectator mode: standard, online, multi view

Snapshot mode: standard, online, uploading

Full level creator: level editor

Pinball:

classic game sampling: demos, trials

music remix mode:

Vault: Stickers, trophies

im sure there are a few more too.

Halo is not like your KZs and CoDs which just upgrade their graphicsBURSTIIIFIRE
What graphics? When I look at console Killzone or Call of Duty all I see is an unplayable mess of aliased, undefined colour.
PC shooters may be better than Halo, but that's also kinda subjectivesiddhu33
Exactly. If you like aiming, you will like PC shooters, whereas if you like your console aiming for you, play on a console.
The AI is good, but so is Halo's (The enemy AI, at least). Played Legendary Solo on Halo 1-3? Thought sosiddhu33
No multiplayer bots = failed AI that wasn't good enough to simulate real players. Especially considering how simplified Halo's gameplay is.
