I'm not a huge fan of the first game, so how different is the sequel for someone who found the first one boring and repetitive? Any improvements to the overall gameplay?

Nope same boring, dead non reactive pedestrians. Follow someone on rooftops without being seen, fight some enemies, drain energy, etc. A slight better climbing and traversing improvements but yea dead characters dark gloomy world. Second Son is absolutely stunning but still they need to make the world seem more living and breathing
More variety in powers and navigating is faster and more enjoyable. Better animations and voice acting.
I played 1 and 2 on PS3 and Second Son on PS4. If you liked the first one (which you didn't) you won't like the second one (which is actually the best of all 3) or the third one.
It's fairly safe to say you'll hate them all equally.
well that's a shame :(. I thought they at least made the world more living with interactions in the sequels
If you like Emo Hipsters then yeah. Oh and another tidbit, this game was back when the PS4 had trouble doing shadows. Beware.

I thought the first one was good on PS3, nothing to write home about but quite good. The second one was amazing, improved on the first in absolutely every way but the essence of the gameplay is still the same so if you didn't like the first you won't like the second.
Infamous 1 Story I thought was fantastic, being their 1st generation game, Sucker Punch's gameplay was tight too.
Infamous 2 Powers/Gameplay I liked even more than the first game, lots of variety, although I felt the story wasn't as great. Solid, but not as cool as the first game.
They both got good metascores if you care to check select reviewers out.

Well I will still give it a try then, $8 aint that much actually
What turned you off about the first one? I think it's trash, personally. It's way too gray, wastes its level design with overly accurate enemies and a garbage color palette, and has terrible mission design.
The second one, from the little I played, was much more appealing to me. Second Son was by far better than the first too, although that's not saying much.

the movement and climbing houses was excellent, combat was good too, but the gameplay structure/tasks were very mundane and repetitive. Fight enemies, save people on the map, go underground and get next powerup for either good or bad karma. Rinse and repeat. Also fighting mostly the same cloaked enemies became very tiring. It lacked variety in tasks and interactivity. The world is beautiful, ´but what is the purpose of a beautiful world, when no one wants to talk or interact with me :(
No. Couldn't force myself to beat the thing. But at least this one was playable, the other two were unplayable garbage.

not for you from what you're saying

I liked it. Still have to play the FREE DLC though.

Agree with the powers an navigating bit, but the bolded is debatable. I know some people didn't like the Solid Snake voice of the first game, but the Cole's VA for the second game just sounded like some douchey frat bro. Didn't help that they changed his personality too (not that he has much of one in either game).
Oh and the framerate and jaggies are much better in 2; still not great though.

Disagreed here. First is best, second is a fun sequel, PS4 one is pretty and has moments but all too brief for me.
No, it's just as mediocre as the other 2. Mechanically all 3 games are good, but the mission designs in these games are abysmal. The enemies aren't fun to fight by the halfway point as they just become spongy with no real layers to the combat, the gameplay runs out of ideas by then, the bosses are awful, the story revolves around a protagonist that isn't well written or well acted in a plot line that revolves around this binary morality system which runs through a string of contrived sequences one after another.

I enjoyed it too, decent fun and gameplay variety, good story. I do recall feeling the cool new powers and things don't pick up right away though. I just liked the first story better...but I think the improved gameplay and powers make up for the story (which was still good, but not as kick ass as the first game).
That said, I dig the whole super hero comic book vibe.
@Postosuchus: He sounded more human in the 2nd one. In the first one he sounds like going to go shoot up a school or something.
Second son is short. Like 6 hours 100% the game short. Fun but it's over before you know it.
Thats a lie b/c even if the the game is 6 hours long to finish...part of the 100% is to do both a full good and a full evil play through. So thats 2 full game lengths.
So tell us about that truth thing you try and do.
If you found the 1st boring and repetitive, then you will find the 2nd less boring and repetitive or more boring and repetitive.
Pretty much this
You can find Infamous 1-3 for less than $20 collectively these days so you might as well take the plunge for a price that low.
I liked the first game more. About 3/4 of the way through part 2, I couldn't do it anymore and just put the game down. It got very repetitive and boring for me.
It's just more of the same shit. If you liked the first one then you gonna like the sequel.
I played the first one and liked it. The second one I played it for a couple of hours but I was already tired of the formula, so I got bored of it really fast and never beat it.
I didn't finish the first or second one, but Second Son was great! Playing back through it on Evil was actually a nice challenge since building the combo/super took a lot more work. I think I played enough of the first two to get the gist of what was going in in the story, but it felt like a complete game and had a wide variety of powers.
Sorry, this probably doesn't help you on whether to get 2 or not. SS was damn good fun, though.
