Found another thing to bash or to make seem maintstream to try and make yourself unique?

what is the matter with you? He is right, the word and general meaning of "epic" are usually looked to as a defining moment of entertainment. Gamers tend to rely on it too much in my opinion. I love epic experiences, but I want to see the videogame industry diversify.

To be honest I find the most "Epic" experiences come when the devs don't try to flaunt how epic the game is suspose to be. I think that because devs are also gamers this becomes a problem. They want the same epic gamers want (being gamers of course) hence they try to go for that. Sometimes I feel like a game that isn't trying to be epic can give you a really memorable moment that while it isn't that rush of energy like experience is really unique. But I don't see diversity in the industry itself coming from big budgets unless its Sony tbh. Most of that stuff will be indie. I think for the most part Sony is the only publisher who has the money and is willing to fund something more out there. (though we did get S&P2 :D )

Interesting topic. Yeah the word epic has been overused in this board for almost every big game. But as some users have pointed out, it's a word that replaces awesome and memorable. It's not a bad thing but it is a word that can often times be used to often to describe games.

For some, epic and joyful mean the same thing.

this is pretty much a SMG2 vs GoW3 thread. GoW3 tries to make everything feel "epic" with the music, humongous set pieces, etc, while SMG2 goes for the joyous, funniness, etc etc. both games are great in their own respects.

This is nothing new. We have always put "epic" games above all.

Epic, as in that tingly feeling you get in your spine with a sense of immense joy and, well... awesomeness? :P I would agree that's it's 'better' or more valuable than simply happiness or a laugh, partly because (despite how many developers aim for it) it's so rare. I could probably count the number of games I'd consider truly ''epic'' - not just in scale or conception, but in emotion - I could count them on two hands.

As for what actually stimulates that feeling... well, I'm not not going there. Human brain is too complicated. :(
