Is it just me or is Fallout getting ridiculous with the DLC?

So they just announced Fallout: New Vegas, AKA Fallout 4.

Thats great, because I friggin' loved Fallout 3. I put 60 hours into it, and loved every single one. Its probably the best game I've played in ages.

But really? They just announced Point Lookout, and all I can say is: WHAT THE FOOT.

There areFIVE different Fallout 3 DLC packages, listed below:

Operation Anchorage

The Pitt

Broken Steel

Point Lookout

Mothership Zeta

Thats five different things I have to download to get my full game. There is no excuse for that bullcrap. I know the first 2 cost 10 bucks a pop, and plus the base 60 you're paying, thats 80 bucks. Even if the other 3 were 5 bucks or hell, EVEN FREE, THATS STILL 80 DAMN DOLLARS.

Now they HAD to have most of this DLC already prepared when they released Fallout 3. How long did it take to release Operation Anchorage? Five minutes?

This is downright ridiculous. Some of this should've been included in the retail, don't you people agree?

I love this kind of DLC. It works perfectly well in a game like Fallout 3. Don't forget that you are not forced to get them.

What are you talking about BETHESDA was crazy with Elder Scrolls 4 : Oblivion DLC, did you think they wouldn't be crazy with all their games?

Do mean mean they were crazy for Taking money and making F3 DLC exclusive for 6 months, and then releasing it on PS3?

This company knows how to make money, let me tell ya.

All I'm saying is that its obvious a lot of this was ready when they released the game. They only held off from including it in the package to sap at the very least another 20 bucks for anything but the bare experience.

I sold my copy of Fallout 3 for 40 bucks cash, so I'll wait for the GOTY release. I won't be around to buy it when it comes out I think. It'll be a nice way to celebrate finishing boot camp.

That's the problem with DLC, you never know, you are probably right.

As far as BETHESDA goes, just remember this when their next game comes out, and save some money.

What exactly will the GOTY edition include? Every DLC? But for how much?

60 bucks. All 5 DLC packages.

AKA, way less than you spend buying them a piece at a time, you get them all at once, and you don't have to screw with something like MS points for Xbox users.

But the thing is they're turning RIGHT AROUND AND RELEASING THEM ALL plus the original game for 60 dollars.

Thats the price of the original game only about one year later, plus stuff like making of and development commentary and other things most people don't care about.

So if each one is 10 bucks, thats 110 bucks for the whole game. 60+50=110.

Thats not including if you bought a Collectors Edition of the original game, which is now a waste completely becuase they're re-releasing the same Collectors Edition that you may have paid up to 90 dollars for with everything but maybe the Pip Boy watch for 60 dollars.

im not sure i really need to say anything seeing as you already did (bolded).

these kinds of downloads aren't equivalent to horse armour.

these downloads are expansions and seeing as how robust the original game was, i don't see why they shouldnt charge for it.

would you rather they didnt make more content for the game? thats weird.

Thats not what I meant. I've bought DLC before. But 10 bucks a pop over 5 expansions within the course of 8 months after the original release, then turning right around and announcing a 60 dollar Collectors Edition with 5 add-ons sounds just a little suspicious to me.

Point is, some of this DLC was ready when the game came out. Why couldn't they just release it all with the new Collectors Edition? Why are they going to systematically release DLC portion after DLC portion when a Collectors Edition containing the original game and all 5 addons is coming out in October?

They're greedy, thats all there is to it. They can't wait and release it with the Collectors Edition? Or just release all the expansions as one major expansion for 30 bucks or something? Sounds way better than buying it piece after piece when you know a major re-release is coming out4 months from now.

I can't argue with that. The Far Cry 2 DLC was downright pathetic. You release a game with a massive map editor, and expect us to pay money for three new guns and some premade maps?

And I really enjoy Too Human and wish they just came out with an expansion pack for it or something, just some new maps/equipment!

Just be glad they wont get your money. It's the only thing you can do. There will always be people that accept being milked because they are easy. Easy to please. It only spawns more milkage. Thats the sorry thing about it. DLC will always be a negative aspect, but slowly and surely people will start to accept it.

I usually don't have a problem with DLC, but I had a huge problem with Broken Steel. I absolutely hated the ending to Fallout 3, but it was almost worse when I figured out that the reason the ending was so bad was because Bethesda wanted to force me to pay 10 dollars to get to the REAL end of the story.

Oh, and Operation Anchorage sucked.

treyskillz

Not officially, but it's being made by most of the designers of Fallout 2 and the original (pre-Bethesda) Fallout 3, so it might as well be.

Hm, anyway, Bethesda are doing a better job with the DLC this time around, as opposed to what they did with Oblivion...but still, if you want more content and support for the game, you probably should've bought the PC version (which will continue getting high-quality mods for a few years, I guess).

I feel they have this much DLC for Fallout3 bc it was all meant to be in the full game but cut and saved for dlc bc they make more money that way. Oblivion has tons more content than Fallout3 even before Oblivion got expansions just in having the guild quests. When I finished Fallout3, I felt like wow this game is so unfinished in terms of content compared to Oblivion. I spent over 100 hrs in Oblivion and hardly scratched the surface while I finished Fallout3 in 40 hrs and felt like I had seen most of what was there to be seen.

The total time it takes to go though all of the DLC is longer than most retail games. It's a fair price for the combined total.

And Fallout: New Vegas is not Fallout 4. I don't think you thought this out well enough.

I think this type of DLC is what we need. It's actual work and effort for the devs, and it translates, usually, into more enjoyable time with the game. If someone really liked FO3, then this only serves them being able to enjoy new content.

Agreed. Even Oblivion's DLC was long. Shivering Isle is longer than a lot of retail games out there. I don't mind when companies due this but like I said earlier I'd rather pay $ for DLC that adds more gameplay than a map pack.

as for that your geting the full game if you just buy the game, believein the DLC is some sort of hidden stuff that they all ready made is just silly.

yes, it's the same price. A suggestion if you are getting the DLC on the PC: Find a way to bypass that crappy GFWL client. It's more trouble than it's worth.

I disagree, it's awesome, despite the high price. In fact I've been meaning to get Broken Steel for a while now.

The only DLC I have a problem with is Broken Steel, because that seriously should have come with the original package, considering that it has the real ending. Plus, several items that were supposed to be available "only" in the DLC can be accessed with the console on the PC version without the DLC.

Other than Broken Steel, the add-ons are just more meat on the bone, really. I don't mind coughing up a few extra bucks for some decent new content and quests. They could be longer, though. And this whole Games for Windows Live crap needs to die in a fire and never be spoken of ever again.
