The only game I see in the future of this Gen that can top it for me is the one and only Grand Theft Auto 5. But even then, Skyrim will be hard to beat.
What say you? If not, then which game is your GOTG?

# 3 right now, but with Mods within a few months it will surely rise to #1 above Oblivion and Halo Reach.
No, Skyrim is great but it has issues that keep it from being amazing. PC mods will fix the things I dislike, but the core game disappointed me.
Im talking about YOUR gotg. i know everyone has their own tastes.[QUOTE="Omega-316"]

No game is GOTG.
Tikeio
To me, a game would have to blend all genres into one game to be GOTG. Otherwise, it'll be just my favorite game of a specific genre of the gen. :P
Well lets see.Bethesda really screwed PS3 owners, so no. I mean if something is that critically flawed, it doesn't deserve all the praise it's been receiving. All bias aside, if it is broken for 1 console, then it isn't that "Epic". Sure games can slide with minor bugs and glitches, but not game breaking flaws. Yojimbo_559arnt they planning on fixing the ps3 version? i heard they are going to release a kit of some sort. i dont know. Just because a game isnt good for one system doesnt mean it should be counted out. i mean GTA 4 was bad for PC but you didnt see people bad mouthing the game as a whole other then pc gamers. If you want to rankgame, you rank it using the BEST system for it. Because thats how the game is ment to be played if you will.
Arkham City or Mass Effect 2 as of right now.
I wish i could understand why Skyrim, or Dead Island, or Fallout are fun, but i just dont get it, those games do NOTHING for me.

Well lets see.Yeah it is also UNPLAYABLE for about 50% of the user base. GOTG unconfirmed. :P
I don't know of any one game that can qualify for that. I like Skyrim a lot, but I have had more fun playing other games. Skyrim has a ton of content, it also has a ton of problems.
It's my game of the year though.
heretrix
This. Best game this year, but that doesn't make it game of the generation.
Well lets see.[QUOTE="Omega-316"]

More like 35%. Well hey, better then the game not being on PS3 at all. PS3 owners at least can say that. Not even GOTY. Way too many issues and way too bad at everything it does, with elements that contradict and detract from other elements. Dont get me wrong though, it is a quality game and I can see why people like it. However, I didnt.
They threw in a lot of content, with 0 thought if they would work well with eachother.

Well lets see.GTA: San Andreas. But that's a last gen game. :P
I'm actually pretty disappointed with Skyrim.
Morrowind was a notable leap forward after Daggerfall. Complete 3D characters and environments! Improved combat!
And then Oblivion was another very notable leap forward after Morrowind. More appealing and diverse 3D environments! Even better combat! NPCs with voices! Dynamic NPCs with lives, they wouldn't walk in circles for all eternity!
But Skyrim doesn't feel like a notable leap forward. It's Oblivion with nicer graphics...And dragons. But that's not enough to call it a true sequel.
No, it's not even the best RPG of its year. Mediocre gameplay, mediocre visuals, mediocre writing, flying mammoths and a large world aren't enough to qualify a game as being great.
all games became irrelevant after Michael Jackson's Moonwalker was released, GAME OF INFINITE AWESOMENESS

Well lets see.It fails at strategy, and most importantly RPG!!!!111

Well i haven't heard of this so called "kit", but I've been watching the Bethesda blog and Pete Hines update is just as vague as their previous "updates". You can see it here: http://forums.bethsoft.com/topic/1322016-holiday-update/ . in the past 1-2 motnhs I've noticed a complete lack of definitive information on Bethesda's side on the actual issue. They have given us ways to prevent these issues, but they only seem to prolong the inevitable problem with save files/lags. IMO i think that if 1/3 of the consumer base can't play the game the way it's supposed to be experienced, then i think that's a HUGE problem.[QUOTE="Yojimbo_559"]Bethesda really screwed PS3 owners, so no. No, the games of the generation for me are:
Bayonetta (hack 'n slash - action)
Fallout: New Vegas (open world post-ap. RPG)
NWN: MotB (traditional DnD RPG, for the story aswell)
Gothic 3 (with the community patch) (open world medievel type RPG)
Stalker: Shadow of Cernobyl (First Person Shooter)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (3D platformer)
Skyrim doesn't come close at topping the RPGs in my list, let alone all the games, for me to put it instead of them.
Every new Bethesda game becomes "game of the gen" when it's released. Six months later everyone gets over the hype and they suddenly realize how flawed the experience was.
I'm waiting for April/May when we start seeing everyone say the opposite of Skyrim, just like everyone did for Oblivion and Fallout 3 (though Fallout 3 sucked from the moment I played it).

That's a pretty good list, actually. Was Gothic 3 this gen though or was that last gen?

Outside of Bayonetta and SMG2 I agree with none of those.

NeonNinja
It was early this gen., around 2006, though at release it was a bug fest and it was highly criticized because of that, later on wen i played it the, now, well known and huge community patch was released and i quickly added that.
Gothic 3 has a beautiful, huge world packed with detail and atmosphere, a far greater AI for NPCs that immerse you in the world and a ear melting soundtrack. The story is mediocre though, but i liked the fact that it continues on the journey of the nameless protagonist from Gothic 1 and 2. Risen is the spiritual succesor of Gothic, though Gothic 3 remains vastly superior.
Nah, it's going to be diablo 3 for me.
GD1551
This is really the only game that has a chance of topping skyrim as RPG of the gen.

That is understandable since New Vegas, Gothic 3 and Shadow of Cernobyl have had a tainted imagine due to the bugs (that have ben presently all fixed, thanks to the dedicated community), and Shadow of Cernobyl in particular has a slow start and unfamiliar gun mechanics compared to other first person shooters. The Mask of The Betrayer expansion (which should have ben a full blown sequel) isn't that well known either, though i think it is the best story of this generation.
