And divide their playerbase? Nope. They want to make money unlike Nintendo and their New New New handheld iterations.

Not if they want to keep a fanbase. Early adopters with the exception of the largest lems would be infuriated if they updated the hardware and made it so it ran games better than the X1 can now.
Don't seem the harm if Microsoft put a legal document forward that games must run at a certain standard on the old model and the new one just happened to run it quicker then so be it. Don't see why you'd want to just put out an inferior hardware package and not take the chance to improve the system you roll out.
Its done with every other level of techonolgy from computing, TVs, phones etc.. makes little sense to let Sony have the performance advantage when it can be closed down.
X1 slim will come out eventually, wondering if its possible for them to update the graphics so they atleast be on par with PS4. I don't see why they couldn't, I mean all multi plats run on the X1 fat even if they are in 720 or 900 or whatever.
do you mean upgrade the hardware?
The answer would be no
and why not
Because games taking advantage of the new hardware may not run on the current hardware.
No it would kill the current Xbox One
imagine retail stores having to do like Xbox One games and Xbox One XL or whatever they would have to carry 2 diff games in the store and devs would have to now do games on 2 diff xbox ones and they would complain as well
an plus the ppl with the first xbox one would just quit an go get a ps4 or something where they dont get scrwed like they had did
You really enjoy to spout stupid things, don't you?
what was stupid about what i said?
if Microsoft upgraded there would be two diff xbox one skews for devs and consumers and merchants thats all factual, and it would disgruntle the early adopters to the system thats just a fact.
Everything you said was stupid, hardware specs aren't changing just how its arranged and shrunk. Shrinking the die saves material, saves power consumption which in turns produces less heat. Everything you stated is hyperbole, How many 360 versions were there? along with how many die shrinks? All played the same version of the game, only issue encountered was harddrive requirements which could be bypassed. Same goes with the PS3.
I think in response to the OP, he's right. The OP is asking if a new sku for Xbox one has updated graphical capabilities that would be on par with the PS4. That involves upgrading the APU. That goes beyond just making smaller components...
The cloud makes up for power difference.
lol
Dat lemming desperation.
i actually have a ps4 now. but nice job being an asshole.
Then you should really consider a new username. And @nyadc already answered your question in post #4.
You can only imagine what kind of community backlash MS would receive if they upgraded the graphics for an X1 slim. Consoles are all about standardized hardware. If it's any consolation I don't see them making this kind of mistake again next gen and even I'll probably jump ship to MS.
That suka has too much horsepower as it is, you'd need a 220 V outlet if you made it mooaar powahfull. :P
Anyhoo, as has been said, no, bad idea that would never happen.

No it wont , stop dreaming lems about greater hardware ...
X1 hardware is a standard model that will continue be like this for the rest of this generation. MS most probably will try to fight back with price ( as they doing like a year now ) and thats a good thing for lems.
They had to put a limiter on the cpu/gpu combo later model x360s had. So it is possible, but sucidal as well....

because that'd be like having 2 create 2 different versions for just one platform, publishers would have to invest more money. And then how long before that old console model becomes a tiny minority? It'd become an even greater leakage of money.

I remember when trolls were clever.
@Gaming-Planet:
It's unlikely they will upgrade the CPU.
It would help a ton and wouldn't affect Xbox One Phat users.
lol xboner
How is that funny unless you have the mentality of a 6 year old. Oh, right, I forgot who was posting. You roofied anyone lately, pretend gamer?
I've never used roofies in my life.

Oh shit, hah.
they cant really change the core spec. well they can, technically, but they really shouldnt.
they only thing i can think of that they could do without effecting game performance and compatability is add specialised hardware to take the output from the X1 GPU and properly upscale it to 1080P and apply a post process AA as standard to reduce/remove the jaggies (if there isnt anything in the X1 to do this already). it would be like a post post process :P. i dont know if anything suitable exists mind. it would also have to be done while keeping any extra latency to an absolute minimum.
but a console is a fixed spec for its life (unless its a nintendo handheld). changing that spec can cause all sorts of problems.
