Is it pretty much the consensus here that PS4/Xbox 3 will be revealed next year?

Is there really any doubt or debate about whether or not both new consoles will be revealed next year? Seriously?

I think its safe to say that any games with development long withstanding, such as Agent or FF Versus or something will not be seing the light of day this gen. (well I dont know about Versus, but Im positive Agent is most likely being made for PS4 right now). So do you guys think pretty much any high profile game that isnt announced within the next 6 months isnt coming out this gen? Sony didnt announce jack **** at E3, so I think its safe to assume they dont really have anything, and everything they do have is being made for PS4. MS announced Halo 4, but other than that, they really dont seem to have anything either after Gears, forza, and Halo 4.

The point of this thread is just asking, can we assume it is pretty much the collective consensus on here that PS4 and Xbox 720 exist, and are being officially revealed next year? Is there anyone on here who has actually NOT reached that consensus?

And what games are you most looking foreward to on the platforms?

They will probably be announced at next E3,but they will most likely be retail somewhere in 2013,just enough time for R* to drop Agent, which after all looks to be multiplat. They will still have userbase of around 130 million waiting for the game, not sure why would they delay it for new consoles with couple of mil users.

It was a PS3 exclusive under a contract if I remember correctly. I remember Rockstar sayng a while back that they want the game to be as relevant as GTA, so I could easily see sony having them push the game to PS4 to make people buy the platform.

However, whether or not it goes multiplat I could care less tbh, I just want to play the game, because rockstar makes nothing but GOTY material. Their games have pretty much auto-purchases for me.

We have went so long without information on it that I think we can say it aint coming this gen (or at the very least it will be a next gen game, but with a PS3/360 port)

Yea I know that,I'm just saying what Jack Trenton said.He said he doesn't know if its exclusive anymore and that kind tells me it is probably mutliplat. It probably has something to do with the fact that there are another ~60-70 mil users that won't get the game once its released, and there is no point for R* not releasing it for them, thats alot of money.

Imagine Agent coming out for PS4 somewhere in 2013 with userbase of ~10 million? They developed the game for 4 years and than released it for such a small audience.Thats why they are waiting a long time for GTA V.So that userbas can go sky high when they release it.

Well if its a contract exclusive, its imaginable, because new platforms need software to make people buy those platforms. Every game that comes out on a new platform has to face that problem.

Yea,but not R* games. They won't devlope a game for 3-4 years just to be informed that it should be ported to next gen system(completely rework all assets, mighty big job) to sell 2-3 millions and move new console.Thats a job for other franchises, already established, and not from Rockstar.

There is zero chance of that happening. The earliest they announce something will be 2013.

Both will sell more this year than last and will have their best sales year since launch. Announcing a replacement while the sales rateis still growing is silly. And both invested large sums and had huge losses early that they are going to want to make up for as long as possible.

Moreover, both will wait till the WiiU is launched and assess the sales impact. Theywill not kill the momentum of their current products until it is much clearer what the competitive threat really is.

And I don't know what you are talking about WRT to software. Sony has a ton of titles in the pipeline. Just because nothing new was shown doesn't mean anything other than the industry is good at outing everything and secrets are hard to keep.

MS has a limited amount to release because they only have a few developers. If they wanted more games to release in 2011 they would have had to buy/start new development studios in 2008.

They didn't explicitly state it. They did however say it would extend the lifespan of the 360 by FIVE years. http://www.geek.com/articles/games/microsofts-kinect-will-extend-360s-lifespan-by-five-years-says-exec-20100824/

lol, no, just no. 2013 will be the LATEST any of them will launch. Both will reveal e3 2012, MS may go a little more in depth as sony may launch 2013. MS will almost certainly launch fall 2012. Industry buzz is that AMD engineers working on next xbox's cpu have been put into overdrive for a late 2012 launch.

First, that's just marketing speak, designers and engineers are in the back room laughing at such BS. Second, "lifespan" doesn't mean another console won't launch in that time frame. See: PS2 and PS3

I call bull on this, there is no chance that Microsoft will release a console late next year simply due to the 360 still selling well and the fact they are still pushing the Kinect. If Microsoft release a console any time in the near future they will kill the sales for the Kinect and the 360 when there is still money to be made for them.

As for Sony I don't expect then to announce anything until 2013, nevermind release a new console.

You know the AMD story is not based on anything other than one person's speculation that of all the likely designs to be targeted at the XBox 720 product, we think there's a good chance that it will be the AMD Krishna product.

And then the story was repeated 1 gazillion times and is now 'fact', when it was nothing more than speculation to begin with.

When you can come up with a good business reason, I'll listen. But simply repeating internet rumours means nothing. Explain why it makes sense.

When did they say that?

They barely "said" it, but it's no surprise that they want Kinect to extend it's lifespan http://www.tgdaily.com/games/42931-that-new-xbox-for-2010-%E2%80%A6-real-or-fake-news , http://www.geek.com/articles/games/microsofts-kinect-will-extend-360s-lifespan-by-five-years-says-exec-20100824/

and this should be the same case with PS Move

Didn't Sony and Microsoft say a few times that their consoles should have a lifespan lasting them until 2014 or..? Don't remember the exact date, but I remember hearing and reading a lot of stuff regarding that enough to make me think they wouldn't announce their next console anytime soon, unless they feel forced to because of the Wii U :S

It may just be rumoured next year, who knows.

and thank you TC for saying Xbox 3, I hate it when people use 720 xD

Agent will probably come out this gen, It just won't be an exclusive.I think that the new consoles will more than likely be revealed next year and launched around 2014. Hopefully they will be introduced a lot better than the Wii U catastrophe.

Sony predicts it will take at least three years for the PS Vita to be profitable [link]. There is, I think, zero chance Sony will launch a PS4 during that timeframe and lose money on yet another console. No new home console before 2014 for sure.

Heck, Sony still needs to get the price of the PS3 down to the mass market price of $199. They better get there by the time the Wii U launches.

there is no way in hell MS would launch a next gen console that quickly without fanfare..It took them more than a year to get Kinect to the market after the announcement and that was just an peripheral. And after the red ring fiasco, rushing to market would be incredibly stupid.

I'm glad to see Nintendo stick to the typical console lifespan. If anyone needed a fresh start, it's them. Sounds like Sony wants to hold off as long as absolutely possible, and Microsoft pushing Kinect probably means they don't want to kill the current sales flow. Of course, showcasing Kinect on their new console might pursuade people to go ahead and buy a Kinect now for their 360 since they can then use it on the newer, superior Xbox in a few years. Not so sure what Sony could do other than adding more power under the hood.

I personally believe that Microsoft will deffinately NOT show off a new console. They only just started hiring people to make the console earlier this year. And as for Sony, I dont think they will show off any PS4 either. They did say that they werent going to launch it any time soon.

No. Why would Microsoft release a new console in Fall of 2012 when they are planning on releasing Halo 4, and CE Anniversary for the 360 around that time. If that were the case they would have definitely made Halo 4 a launch title for their new console.

Yep, simple logic, really. The 360 is currently experience unprecedented growth and huge profits. Kinect was a hit. Why are there so few 360 exclusives these days? It's because Microsoft no longer even has to bother spending money trying to lock up timed exclusives; it's just not necessary anymore. They will also keep releasing the usual big-hitters that they know will do well, like Forza, Halo, and Gears, and that will be enough.

Their sole concern right now is ensuring that customers remain interested in the Kinect peripheral, so naturally most of their attention will be directed towards encouraging development of Kinect games. And they are doing that.

It's not in any way indictive of a new console coming, it's just profit-maximizing strategy. Halo 4 being released Q4 2012 should have made it obvious to people that the 360 isn't going anywhere.

And Sony's launch of Vita, at a loss, and expectation not to make a profit for 3 years should also be a clear indication that Sony isn't going to launch a new home console anytime soon. The PS3 is going to have to sustain their video game division through Vita's first few years.

I hold to my 2014 prediction so I expect a reveal at the 2013 E3. The PS3 and 360 are still doing well and I know Sony wants to keep the PS3 alive as long as possible without jeopardizing next gen and MS want to keep Kinect selling. Since the Wii U isn't devestatingly powerful, I don't think that it will prompt Sony and MS to release early.

Did they say they were selling the Vita at a loss? I remember them saying that they know which side they like being on (profitable) and thats where they plan to be. I don't think its impossible that Sony can be making a little profit on every PSV they sell...

Did they say they were selling the Vita at a loss? I remember them saying that they know which side they like being on (profitable) and thats where they plan to be. I don't think its impossible that Sony can be making a little profit on every PSV they sell...

Yep, they confirmed it. They're selling at a loss.

"Sony has said it plans on a 10-year cycle for its gaming systems. That's a good thing for the upcoming Vita, as the electronics giant doesn't expect the upcoming handheld to even turn a profit for the first one-third of that span.

Sony consumer products head Kaz Hirai told Reuters this week that the company's goal with the Vita is to make the system profitable within three years." [link]

I like ps3 and 360 and I hope for having them for two more years cuz the battle between them is just getting exciting .I wonder how much more they can push these consoles.this is the mane reason I prefer console gamin cuz I am always curious to see what kind of improvment they coulld do everytime a new exclusive or good multiplat is released.but PC is always best looking and there is no debate on it.

[QUOTE="clamps111"]MS will almost certainly launch fall 2012. Industry buzz is that AMD engineers working on next xbox's cpu have been put into overdrive for a late 2012 launch.SakusEnvoy

Exactly. Besides, if we look at history, Halo 2 came out about a year before the 360 was released. I think they'll do a similar thing and have the next gen xbox come out a year after Halo 4. That leads me to believe it will be announced at E3 2013, all speculation of course.

It's certainly a possibility, but part of me thinks it may take until 2014. It does kinda depend, I think, on whether or not the 360 can keep up the year-over-year growth after the Wii U is released. Microsoft eventually needs to start price cutting, too, and when they do it should cement their position as #1 in America.

If Microsoft does launch a next-gen console, I think they'll want a big title to show off the new system's graphical capabilities. Like Halo or Gears, something to make sure sales start off strong. A next-gen Gears would probably take 3 or so years to develop alongside Unreal Engine 4; a next-gen Halo would also probably take 3 or so years (Halo 3 was in development for 3 years, as was Reach).

My guess would be they'll have a pre-alpha of a next-gen Gears to show off at E3 2013, for release in 2014 alongside their new console.

At least the next Xbox should be revealed. I don't think Sony is as far along in development. Both could be released in 2013.

I can see the Xbox successor being revealed, I think Sony will follow up at TGS or E3 after. I think PS4 will launch a year after Xbox again.
