Is Killer Instinct the greatest fighting game ever made?

If youre buying an xbox one for 500 bucks for a free to play game where you have to buy characters individually and is being made by a crap developer then thats fine. I wont though because I have common sense.

Killer instinct is not a new game, you know that right?

I damn near made my thumbs bleed with Killer Instinct Gold. Absolutely love playing KI. For me, it's second only to the Tekken series. I really hope that the new KI lives up to the standards of KIG. It and Titanfall are what's keeping me making an easy decision to buy a PS4. Really want both of those games....

The Greatest fighting game is Marvel vs Capcom 2, SNK vs Capcom 2, and Power stone 2 back on the dc days

As a competitive fighting game KI is pretty bad.

I'm not knowledgable about 3D fighters but greatest 2D fighter would probably be a tie between SSFII:Turbo, King of Fighters 98/2002, Vampire Savior, Guilty Gear XX Accent Core, and SSF4:AE.

Nope. So many great fighters that i don't think KI would make it into my top 10. I think people have a lot of nastolgia for the game, but it is overrated in my opinion. I am wanting to try the new one though.

No, though as good as it was, I even liked Killer Instinct 2/Gold more than the original. Can't wait for the new one though, it's one of the main reasons I'm trying to get an Xbox One early.

Agreed, Killer Instinct is such a strong IP I'm willing to drop 499+ to get a sequel to the franchise, even if it's made by a developer that could be incapable of making a good fighting game and doesn't have a single person who made the original KI working on it.

That's a huge risk you are taking there.

As a fighting game it was horrible. Worse than Mortal Kombat mechanically speaking, and MK was plenty bad in its own right.

Speaking as someone who is older than 13 and played the original KI in arcades and then bought the SNES version...no. While i appreciate the hype and attempt to rewrite history, the reality is that when KI originally came out it was mostly panned by gamers. It came out during the peak of fighting game populatiry and most people felt there were many more better fighters to spend their money on. People also hated the combo system which let gamers rack up massive hit combos with only a few button presses, and the uninteresting characters

For Cartoon Graphics, Marvel vs Capcom 2 without a doubt.

Why was it terrible? It was fun as hell. Spent many many hours playing KIG. Huge combos, good graphics, cool characters, and of course C-C-C-C-COMBO BREEAAAKKER!!!!

There is NOTHING about the game that makes it "terrible". Maybe not your cup of tea? Sure. But not terrible.

The best fighting game is likely the Streetfighter series, likely SF2 in one of its incarnations.

Mortal combat is above average despite being envisioned as a cheap bloody knockoff.

Tekken and virtua fighter also needs mention in the running.

Killer Instinct was in the same category as Mortal Comabt I think, Likely an atempt to break into SF2s great popularity, and it showed toe be better then the average badge of knockoffs. So it is competent, but the best ever? It would have to compete with the above, and would likely lose out to atleast half.

not by a longshot. it was classic (well the first one was) but it wasn't really that deep of a game...not like tekken, vf, sf series.

Nope, it's a poor man's MK at best.

And even considering MK as best is highly arguable.
