Mario is and always will be king of videogames. He is the longest standing Mascot and I don't see him ever going away. Nintendo manages to keep Mario games feeling just fresh enough to be called blockbusters. Plus he is every genre of game minus shooter that there is and all these Mario titles are pretty good and at least fun to play. So in my opinion, Mario is still King followed by Link from Zelda. Nintendo owns when it comes to notable characters. Anyone who denies that is just a hater.

Is Mario still the "King" of videogames. Yes, and no character will ever dethrone him. More people internationally recognize Mario than Mickey Mouse. He is the face of gaming,crushes in sales,is amazingly consistent and has mostly excellently rated games and is over 25 years old to boot.

Mario games are still fun, but not the best anymore. Mario Galaxy for instance was very overratted, LBP is the new platformer king.

Sales/Popularity -- By all means (Since you said "Mario" and not "Mario Platformer Series", CoD does sell more than 2D Mario on a yearly basis)

Influence? Not anymore, no. In the same way nobody gives a rats ass about SS' wm+ mechanics. OoT and SM64 were highly influencal (mechanics introduced in those games are still standard in modern 3D games) but the industry has steered away from Nintendo's path since then, they are into a different kind of gaming with a focus on production values.

Quality? Subjective, but SMG2 is the best game ever made if you ask me, its game design is like a piece of art. 3D Land had phenomenal use of stereo 3D which is a rare occurence, I'm sure the next 3D Mario presumably coming out in Nov 2013 (Wii U) will blow our minds again.

As for Geno..I agree..he is my favorite character of all time..if only Square and Nintendo would team up and give us a proper sequel in HD glory...but it looks as though the Paper series will have to do..:(

There are so many better games than Mario Galaxy like Rachet and Clank, New Super Mario Bros, even Donkey Kong Country Returnes was better. Mario was disappointing this gen, Mario Sunshine is better than Mario Galaxy. LBP is not lifeless, it is beautiful. It is amazing. It is the king of platformers.

Paper Mario is good, bu nothing will ever top Legend of the Seven Stars. I think that was my first RPG to be honest, but FF7 is the one that really got me into RPG's.

They work just fine, in LBP 1 they were kind of floaty but in LBP 2 they are fine. I adjusted to them, it is pressure sensitive. The longer you hold down X the higher you jump. People don't seem to understand that and just right the game off.

Rachet and Clank...Ickkkk....NSMB is good but not great. I really enjoyed DKCR but still doesnt come close to the polish,creativity and execution of SMG.

There is no king of gaming to me. King of a platforming... maybe. 3D Land left a bad taste in my mouth. Horrible, horrible game.

Depends on who you ask. There's usually a Mario platformer every gen that I absolutely must have, such as Galaxy 1 & 2. There are also those that I can do without, such as NSMB. It's a case of hit and miss lately.

Well, his games still get amazing sales, Mario obviously had a large impact on the idustry and is the biggest icon in the industry, and his games are always of quality, getting great scores and praise from reviewers and the public alike (NSMB2 perhaps being on of the exceptions to this).

I would say mario is the king of gaming. Sure other games have been able to get amazing sales, impact the industry, and get alot of praise, but mario has been able to do this for more than 20 years.

and here we have the insecure gamer. so what if it has a child like theme to it, it doesn't make it any less of a good game if it does, as when you get older you realise these things don't matter and no one cares what game or form of entertainment you like, be it "childish" or not. so many instead say it's not your style of game or maybe preferred genre, as dismissing something with a statment like "Its a Childish game on Childish platform" only shows how childish you are.
