There's no denying MGS 4 is one of the masterpieces of last gen. I decided to replay the game before MGS 5 comes out and am still in awe at its looks. The proof is in the pudding, wouldn't you agree SW?

I guess it was impressive when it debuted, but it's aged pretty badly. The Phantom Pain looks glorious, on the other hand.
Who f**king cares...........
When people are constantly scrutinizing graphics how can something 7 years old be called "best looking"?
Even for 2008 standards the graphics were bad. I can even think of games from 2004-2005 that had better graphics.
Not really.... I'm pretty sure Mirror's Edge and Gears of War 2 looked better. It did look good though.
It looked pretty bad compared to games like Crysis and Crysis Warhead back then. It didn't age well at all and TBH, now it looks terrible.
Nah, not even the best looking game of 08. It did look (inconsistently) great at the time though. Character models were nice and those two videos you posted happen to be two of the better looking parts of the game. There were some areas that looked like complete ass though. At times it actually didn't even look as good as MGS3. Rough, inconsistent texture work all over the place, some really bland lighting, and outside of the characters a lot of the models really looked like shit. I think at some points you would see wheels that were 8 sided cylinders, below what a lot of PS2 games were doing.
It's a mixed bag, probably the most inconsistent looking MGS game to date.
No biggie though, this has never been a graphics powerhouse series. They're usually somewhat high end on a technical level at launch (relative to consoles), but not on top. The short comings are often made up for through the art style. The only time an MGS game was truly ahead of the pack was when MGS2 released. That shit was tech demo material at the time.
Don't look that good. For the beginning of that boss fight, I thought the battleship in the background was sitting in the desert or something. It's like 'oh shit, that's water?'.
I lol'd at a lot of the boss fight even being a movie.
I dont think it was know for the graphics, the gameplay, story and characters will definitely carry on though

Okami.
And no on the OP.
Garbage.
All subjective.
I'd say a few parts still look good today. overall it's one of those games that i don't mind looking at and playing even today. yes it looked rough in places but damn some of the scenes looks great. like conan said it's inconsistent.

Same can be said for all games.
Majority of life is a subjective experience.
@uninspiredcup: At launch Crysis ran like shit on any pc that didn't have top of the line gpus in SLI.
I ran the demo on medium settings at a playable framerate on a Pentium 4 and ATI Radeon X1300.
So no.
I had a look at it thinking I might play the PS3 games to get up to speed with the PS4 ones but it looked so bad I decided I was happy not knowing all the shit that happened in the earlier games.
So, yeah, no.
Majority of life is a subjective experience.
What about... forget it , not worth the ban.
LOL but you post this dramatic weighing of it anyway?
@ConanTheStoner: lol it looked leaps and bounds better then MGS3 and MGS have won best graphic awards almost everytime they are released. MGS2 And MGS4 won them.

@foxhound_fox: At MEDIUM settings. LOL!
Yeah, and it was a better looking game than MGS4.
