Rumors of an under-powered console graphically in favor of Kinect 2.0 seems to have generated a lot of negative buzz for MS lately with media outlets and hardcore gamers.
But does MS care, or in touch with what consumers wants like they did back in 2006?
I remember Sony used to be the old & out of touch corporate that don't seem to get out of its own way with statements like "PS3 will instill discipline" and "people will buy it even if it has no games" etc.. comments. But somehow they seem to have gotten their act together if the rumors of the PS3's superior hardware design relative to X720 is true.
Having said that, and if the rumors were to be taken seriously, What would you advise a company like MS for next gen?
I feel the only advice I could give is to monitor closely what happened to Nintendo, they lost the loyalty credit they had with hardcore gamers last gen with the Wii in favor of casuals.
Which served them well until the casual fad novelty ran out and now neither casuals nor hardcore gamers seem to be as interested in their new under-powered console as they did with the Wii.

I think xbox has a VASTLY more serious problem than power
1. Fable is going to the worst, and was the main reason i liked xbox
2. MS has lost Japan and does not care for JRPGs like Lost Odyssey, which made all the difference this generation
3. Alan Wake and Fable are PC games and not exclusives
.
These 3 above are like 10 billion times more important than a bit less power under the hood
Give me your lemming sash. You have no rights to wear it. Now go back to your PS3 movies.
1. Fable is going to the worst, and was the main reason i liked xbox

3. Alan Wake and Fable are PC games and not exclusives
4. Rare is making sports games now
5. Indie developers got the short end of the stick, with MS stopping XNA support
.
if things go like the above predicted ones, i will gladly surrender my xbox fanboy leadership to the next candidate :)
But of couse maybe MS does
.
1. Fable right, like Fable 1, but in next gen form
2. Lost Odyssey and Cry On with Mistwalker
3. Alan Wake 2 and Fable 4 never go to PC
4. Rare stop sports and make Kameo 2
5. Indie developers get XNA2 that will also be compatible with XNA
.
Frankly i dont think these will happen, i just think xbox 720 case will be absolutly nothing like the spectacular xbox 360 case
If the rumors about the always online sheme are also true, then xbox 720 will probably be like non existent to me
