[QUOTE="Guybrush_3"]Couldnt they just buy their gaming division then? They can't because it's still owned by Sony. Not even close. Sony is huge with a bunch of divisions. It's not just a gaming company.

They could but am sure sony did learn from mistakes done this gen and make sure not to repeat them next-gen in order to get back a huge part of its market share and try to get back to no.1 position.. So Sony wont sell out its gaming division, its still one of its biggest assets..
high end electronics are on the decline, why would microsoft want to buy sony?Do they have enough money to do so? I wonder what would happen if they did.

anti-trust laws would only apply if it would lead to a monopoly or if the purchase was against the co. charter of microsoft. as the only industry they share is video gaming and both pc and nintendos share of the market makes the combine sony+microsoft share look small, a monopoly would be a non-issue still the SEC and what ever governing bodies in japan would need to give the ok.im pretty sure there are laws against that kind of stuff

[QUOTE="Trmpt"]high end electronics are on the decline, why would microsoft want to buy sony? high end electronics in decline? maybe in a global recession sure. the problem is manufacturing costs. personally i think we've reached the stage where we are able to make leaps in technology when we focus our energies in large R&D groups. the problem is the cost of making that new tech. PR guys for a while now have been good at spinning it so that the masses buy it. it's what has kept it afloat. we could be reaching a point where the mass consumer market isn't able to buy the new electronic toys in the millions like they used to. so the trick then is to pass the savings not only for the developers but also to the consumers. gotta do it cheaper.Do they have enough money to do so? I wonder what would happen if they did.

Theoretically, yes -- but not only would it be expensive, but also would or could violate multiple monopoly laws.Stevo_the_gamerCorrect it would NEVER be allowed to happen. Its like Wallmart buying Tescos or vice versa it would DEVASTATE small shops and other supermarkets. While Microsoft buying Sony would annihilate and cause many problems in the gaming market especially, and also the general computer Hardware market. Honestly its not a nice thought i think Microsoft have already gotten to big and im surprised they are allowed to keep there monopoly on the software market. Especially considering the recent news that due to Viruses designed for you guessed it Windows hospitals in particular have been unable to access computer systems which can result in postponed cancer treatment or even death for patients.
Sony Corporation is much bigger than Microsoft , go check the list of the biggest corporations in the world at WikipediaKurdish-GamerFirst off Wki sucks for info. Go to Forbes or something like Forbes. The look at the market value for each company and Microsoft is worth around 6 times more then Sony.
Edit- I just looked
Microsoft is worth $199 billion
Sony is worth $24 billion
So Microsoft is worth 8 times what Sony is worth

Competition law, known in the United States as antitrust law, has three main elements: * prohibiting agreements or practices that restrict free trading and competition between business entities. This includes in particular the repression of cartels. * banning abusive behavior by a firm dominating a market, or anti-competitive practices that tend to lead to such a dominant position. Practices controlled in this way may include predatory pricing, tying, price gouging, refusal to deal, and many others. * supervising the mergers and acquisitions of large corporations, including some joint ventures. Transactions that are considered to threaten the competitive process can be prohibited altogether, or approved subject to "remedies" such as an obligation to divest part of the merged business or to offer licenses or access to facilities to enable other businesses to continue competing. they may be both big companies but i cant think of a single market that would be dominated that is not already dominated by one of them today.. as long as both keep it clean and what even japans laws are met, there would be no problems with a buyout/merger

Why would MS try to buy up sony??? MS isnt some evil empire wanting to buy everything it can up. The reason MS would have wanted to bvuy up yahoo is becuase they are competition. MS is a software company and has their own mail service, yahoo would be big competition. Plus having them put toghether would make combating google much easier. Since google is ahuge competition to both of them... MS wouldnt buy out sony becuase MS is primarily a software company. Sony is primarily a hardware company so for the most part there is not a huge amount of competition between them. Also sonys VAIO computers use wondows. Which is good for MS...Do they have enough money to do so? I wonder what would happen if they did.

i wont do it again in this thread as i did for the last thread like this, but if you can find it i did a financial breakdown and accounting ratios for sony and microsoft, with more focus on sony as their numbers varied more from poster to poster and what site they went on. shortly there after it was locked and proved to me once more my sig is correct. any who if you do want to look for it the thread was atleast 20 pages at 20 posts per page long, but that is all i can recall.sony has more assets but its equity is far lower, most of sony's worth is debt
ASSETS - LIABILITIES = Owners/shareholders equity or Assets = owners/shareholders equity + liabilities

lol, MS is worth over a 100 billion dollars more than Sony. I couldnt help but laugh at my screen when I read your post. Not that much...but yeah by alot.Microsoft had net profits of 20 billion a year for the last decade. With such huge profits I see no reason why MS couldn't lend nearly infinite money if needed to buy a company of Sonys size. Sonys Market Value was only worth about 48 billion $ (its less then nintendos) in early 2008 and has probably dropped a lot by now.
Even if Sonys stockholders would demand a ridicoules amount of money for their stock MS could easily attain enough fundings for it if they wanted.

guess i'll have to personally look into this
as long as they follow the merger regs of both home nations, some times they are incompatible. and some times us companies relocate to other nations as the Co. dick chainie was invested in moved to one of the middle east nations to avoid litigation for some of its missdoing in the past 8 yearsCan US companies just go out and buy foreign companies?
