No, this is a free market, consumers don't have to buy it.
I have the right to sell my Used 360 Elite for $20,000, and if someone buys it, that's it. It's called Capitalism.
Is the $199.99 Xbox a good deal? I Don't think so, but it's up to consumers to do research.
If Sony had a 199 dollar PS3 with a 20 gig HDD no wireless connection, I'd be all over it.\
Its about choice.

Uh, M$ doesn't even offer that, lol!
Yeah I know typo.Thanks.
[QUOTE="-Ninja_Dog-"]well cows can say the same thing. If MS offered a 20gig 360 for 199.00 i would think they would be all over it also lol.If Sony had a 199 dollar PS3 with a 20 gig HDD no wireless connection, I'd be all over it.\

Thanks again. Typo.
But this is silly argument.
Want to play games, you can pay 199 or 399 simple as that.
Want to drive to work, you can buy a Ford F-150 or a Ford F-350 simple as that.
its all marketing, and heck it works...you need to look at the target market for a product...most likely Microsoft's research has shown that in the USA, the lower price will appeal to those that can be labeled casuals, the type of person who dosnt know enough about the product, and quickly jumps on it.
Wii has done the same
Wii - 279.99
controller - 49.99
nunchuck - 24.99
classic control - 24.99
charging station fits 2 controllers - 29.99
in the end the price stacks up pretty high
if you get all the parts to each console the PS3 is the cheapest option, and that of most value
but not everyone for the 360 needs the $100 wifi, and not everyone on the wii needs the classic control.
so is this a steal?, no
but a dick move? I guess so, but thats marketing for you, almost every company finds a strategy to sell
People don't seem to understand the point of the 360 arcade. It is not 199.99 so you can go and buy everything that is available with the more expensive models extra, it is for the people that aren't going to be playing on live, downloading every map pack in Halo 3 and buying 100 songs in Rock Band. It is for the casuals, so by taking out the things the casuals aren't going to use anyway, they lower the price. If someone wanted a 120GB hard drive, they would buy the elite, adding it to the price of the arcade is actually quite ridiculous.Il_Exile_lIthe problem is casuals like my friend who bought the arcade version, bought it for rockband. he didnt know arcade version didnt come with HDD and WIFI. so after monhts of convicing him to get a 360, he bought one, but only ending up trading it for a ps3 and got rockband and mgs4, that very same day.

Your comparison makes no sense. I guess you didn't know that you can use any wireless adaptor with the 360 and they cost as little as $30.00. The ps3 doesn't ship with HD cables or mic but you assume everyone wants w-fi and Xbox Live Gold for the 360?

i dont know. he seems to be excited for RFOm2, LBP and i showed him KZ2. and also he is a huge fan of God of War 3. so he seems pretty happy. i told him he can come to my house to play GEOW 2 with me, before i sell my 360 for a wii or a new graphics card.but it was funny, after i showed him those games KZ2, RFOM 2, LBP, he was like WHEN DO THOSE GAMES COME OUT!!. so he seems to be pretty happy with his purchase.

you make no sense that was form the article lol u clearly didnt look at itEDIT: though etherway HDMI is $10.00...a mic is also like $10.00 (or wireless u can use any bluetooth headset $20.00)
EDIT 2: also its not what people want the articles point is M$ isnt giving you the most value, thats why they compaire it directly to what the PS3 has to offer.
"As you can see by the calculations, just to get 1/4 of the PS3's storage space and no Blu-Ray player (which, as of now, there seems to be no plan to offer), you're going to run a higher tab than you would buying the PS3 outright."
You know, most companies try to make money of there products. It shouldn't be a surprise that MS is trying to make money off their console after 3 years. The Wii has been out for 2 and it still hasn't had a price drop.JakeTD21lol yea

But what this article fails to realize is that if someone wanted a harddrive, they could buy the 60GB 360 for 299 instead of buying the arcade and then adding on the harddrive. No one would do that. The arcade isn't for people that want a harddrive, it is for people that just want to play some casual games.

Really? The PS3 has already had two in the US.
For people like me, a console is merely a necessary price of entry to the games on that platform. If a console has better hardware extras but doesn't have the better library, is it really offering better value?
And if you want a harddrive, get the Pro. The Arcade model isn't for you.

lol they do realise that, but if you're sum1 who looks at the price and jumps on it, then u need online, then u realise u need a hardrive for maps or sumthing, etc. thats what they are trying ot get atalso even if they changed it to the 60GB model it would still be 429.94, but it has 60GB instead lol
ur not understanding the purpose of the comparison...

I thought you took your time and typed that up. The article makes no sense then.
Just cause Sony has to eat alot of cash just to stay competive doesn't mean they have a better deal.
You can buy an 299 usd 360 model with 60 gigs hdd, that plays games just fine.
Wireless adapter, don't want it or need it.
Do I need Blu Ray to play games? Nope. GTA4 runs just fine on DVD9.
I bet Sony wishes they could drop more features to make it even cheaper to but the cant.
Again its about choice, do I get the base model or the luxury model, its about choice.

Our prices are annoying. $120(Converted from the local currency/cost) for a console game. Imagine the prices for a console, and you'll have a heart attack.
