Poll Is Nintendo back? (Poll) (106 votes)
I think Nintendo is back. It's pure fun where ever you go and brings people together. I've been out to eat with friends and strangers will jump in and play mario cart.
What say you SW?

The Switch is already Nintendo's fastest selling console of all time. I believe it will end up being more successful than the DS. I've never been this excited about a Nintendo console. I really hope they succeed. The hardware is excellent. I've shown five of my friends Breath of the Wild by simply bringing the console over to their house and all of them loved it.
Well, to me Nintendo never went away. They never stopped making games, let alone some of the best ones in an entire generation. Some of the best games were on the Wii and some of the best games were on the Wii U and that's a matter of fact.
Now, I guess the question lean more towards if they're more on a track for success once again - it appears so.
I think after E3 and beyond will be a better indicator of whether Nintendo is "back." Nintendo has a solid first party lineup this year, but if they don't keep up the momentum and get third parties on board, they're going to be in for a shit storm.
Thats self important bullshit. You're no more of a gamer than me or anyone else. Get off the pedestal. Story has been a part of games for long enough to get over the fact that its here to stay. People like it, it doesnt mean they are less than you. Grow up.
I had atari2600,atari jaguar,jaguar cd,atari lynx,sega genesis,sega cd,sega game gear,sega 32x,sega saturn,dreamcast,nes,gameboy,snes,n64.gamecube,xbox,panasonic 3do before i was 19 years old in 2001 bro.
ill gladly admit i was a spoiled **** when it came to parents buying me consoles when i was young but thats how i look down on these kids they didnt grow up owning as much consoles and their opinion of the direction of the industry truly doesnt mean shit compared to me because they have less experience in the industry and seen the direction it took.
get some common sense bro.
I'm 44 years old, started playing on a Pong console in the 1970s. I played Atari, Colecovision, intellivision, NES, Sega, PS, Xbox. Big fucking deal. It doesnt mean shit regarding what game developers want to make. That is what this industry is driven by. Devs desire to create and Money of course.
You, me or Jack fvckin Sparrow, it doesnt matter. A game is whatever a developer wants make. You dont like stories in games? Good for you. It doesnt make your opinion anything more than an opinion. Eat a turd, pal
All trends die.....except ''gameplay experience'' when it comes to gaming, are you willing to admit video games have very shallow gimmicky gameplay and boring as **** these days nothing but a fucking gimmick/trend? Because of the casuals want easy to play which truly isnt a ''gameplay experience'' and ''cinematic experiences'' which also isnt a ''gameplay experience either'' stupid ass playstation generation casual gamer kids kinda ruined everything.
Why should a consumer who you call a casual not be allowed to have the games they like? Is your money worth more than theirs? No I wont make a generalization statement of games these days. Some have interesting gameplay some dont. Some have a story that is an entertaining driving force for gameplay and some stink. I try not to generalize because that is as ignorant as dismissing others that like things different from me as not being real gamers.
The free market decides for itself because people vote with their wallets. You cant handle the fact that many people including devs that like to tell stories with games feel differently than you. So you make this non sense "real gamer" identity up so you can feel superior to others. Tough luck pumpkin, you arent. You're just a human being like the rest of us.
Books arent all story telling. There are almanacs, non fiction as well as fiction. Films arent all story tellers as there are instructional films and documentaries as well. Games are another entertainment medium. Some devs want to tell stories with the games they make and then there are games that do not. Trying to limit what games can be is a baby's mindset, but like you said, you were spoiled so it doesnt surprise me.
No real gamer is torn between movies and games and knows the difference or cares about trying to meld both mediums into one thing.
That's what a ''true gamer is to me''

Well to most of us that are not spoiled little brats, a gamer is a person that plays video games that is all. There is no "true" or "real" gamer. That is what an insecure baby calls himself because he needs to stroke his ego.
All human beings have the right to like what they wish. But when someone is trying to say what they like is the best, true, real, that just shows how immature that person is. Good talk.
Yes, but they never went anywhere... the problem was in the naming and very poor advertising.
A hybrid console for Nintendo was the best decision they could have made, and I absolutely knew it would make a killing. It's funny still seeing ass those that said it wouldn't sell well, and would be the nail in Nintendo's coffin back peddling and now saying things like, "it is too early to tell," or "the sales are from scalpers," or the ever popular "the hype will die, it's only because of (so and so game).
Here is the thing... there hasn't even been a BIG exclusive game yet. The Switch is killing it, and isn't going anywhere.
For the love of everything that is good... just announce a Super Mario Maker Deluxe (like MK8D) and I'll buy at least 2.. maybe 3. If I can ever find one.. lol
Honestly, I was a whisker away from buying one thanks to a cash windfall and yet one thing stopped me. The games. Where are they? I'm looking currently at three purchases right now and almost nothing on the immediate horizon. Nintendo said there would be no droughts, (once again) but they started off with one. What am I to play after Zelda has been done with? I can play puyo puyo tetris in short bursts and Master Blaster Zero for a while but what's coming?
I know xenoblade will eventually be released (years off most likely) and I know skyrim will be coming (I have it twice already and on PC where the mods are). But what are people so excited about right now?
@DocSanchez: I guess people just have different tastes than you. I'm looking forward to Arms, Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey (My most anticipated game this year).

Yep someone who only plays candy crush should be called a gamer compared to someone who grew up playing quake multiplayer.
CASUALS ARE NOT GAMERS DUH!
They arent dedicated to the hobby and they dont know if they truly like the medium or not.
It's a bit early to tell if Nintendo is back or not. For me personally the Switch has my interest with Breath of the Wild, Splatoon 2 (missed out on the first one), ARMS, and Mario Odyssey. Hopefully they have a lot planned for the system beyond those titles.
I adore my Wii U. But after a few months with the Switch I went back to play some old titles on my Wii U and it was more than evident the switch is everything the Wii U should have been and more. Wii U will go down as a solid system that got way too much hate but that gamepad is clunky and everything about it feels awkward now that the switch is on the scene. Again, love my Wii U, but the switch is the real deal.

LMAO you are so lost in the idea that "gamer" is some identity to be attained. Like something only the few, the proud, the Quake players-can reach. How absolutely hilarious and pathetically sad at the same time.
The problem is only a person that has a need to feel superior to others through an identity that in truth doesnt even exist (call yourself gamer or real true gamer all you want, you are actually only ever going to be a human being that decomposes when he dies) would make a comparison between a person that plays Candy Crush and a person that grew up playing Quake MP. Its bitch shit.
yes. You can tell that the idea of the Switch has struck a chord with the mainstream consumer. It will be a huge success.
They are in the right direction, but I'm waiting to see if they get the third party support they would normally get from handhelds first. I hope they do, I hope Nintendo are back. It's a long time since they were competitive. As much as I loved the N64, the SNES was the last time they really stood out. I'm hoping EA and Konami make specialised full versions of their football games for it. It can be a big deal, consoles need certain games to get that mainstream support. It was a big deal that the Dreamcast lacked those types of games. MS dropped their own brand of sports games to get that support because they knew of the importance.
The GC didn't get the third party support. The Wii had better sales than games for the most part and the Wii U just had a really small selection of really good games. If the Switch is good, I'll get one in about a years time.
I'd love to have Nintendo back in a big way and I think the concept of the Switch is a good compromise between home console and handheld gaming. I hope its CPU is good enough, Nintendo made a very poor choice in this area with the Wii U.
All it needs is a steady stream of content. I don't want this to mean that it gets the same amount of games the Wii U had, but dribbled in a steadier pace, no. I want Nintendo to hire more devs, friggin' use some dough and pay developers to make games for them or hire them to remaster older titles. All it needs is games to succeed, how hard can that be, it's already selling well and with more games it'll continue to sell. Look at the PS4, they're doing it right. A game console can never have enough content.
