I am pondering the question about this, because it seems that both Sony & Microsoft are now coming out with motion sensors, or whatever to compete with the Wii. Also, there's rumors going on that Microsoft will completely eliminate the Pro models & won't be including the component HD AV cables along with the Arcade model (which never happens anyway).

Correct me on those things if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that Nintendo is kind of ruining gaming. I'm also kind of hoping that Microsoft & Sony won't stoop down to Nintendo's level, with not much graphical updates (or even worse, lowering the graphics) in their next-gen consoles because of this.

What do you think?

If anything Nintendo is still trying to hold onto the past (cartoony, enjoyable, fun), as opposed to MS and Sony which are traversing down the road of realism, i.e. the road of no return - people have become spoiled

Not for me, lol. As there certainly is no shortage of great looking titles on the horizon for PS3/360. If you do not like what they are doing, just ignore it, focus on supporting the games and systems that appeal to you and move on. Afterall, it is not like we are on the verge of there being nothing but games like Wii Fit and Cooking Mama across all platforms. Until it gets to that point (which it never will) just relax.

they're just trying to appeal to the crowd who did like the Wii motion sensors, Wii just set the bar with their sales, sony and microsoft won't match it, but they see that it'sdefinitely a winning opportunity to make some money.

Ruining? No, they're just doing what they can, if sony and microsoft choose to make cool gadgets instead of good games, that's their fault in the end, get mad with them.

Is Nintendo holding guns at Microsoft and Sony's heads?
Was it not entirely Microsoft and Sony's choice to develop motion sensing technology?
Does saying "Buh...But t3h c00l guy (Nintendo) d1d 17!" exempt Microsoft and Sony from any criticism? Did saying that ever work for you?

I agree with this. Nintendo still makes their games the way I like them. They use to e single player experiences with a huge focus on carefully crafted game design. Now they veer more towards open worlds where you do watever or online multiplayer.

Prescision design seems like a thing of thepast now :(

Short answer: no

Long answer: They're introducing a new audience into the gaming world which will cause many to progress into the other more "hardcore" games. If anything, they're doing the complete opposite of killing the franchise. They're not completely focusing on the now audience (nor are they completely abandoning it either) but onto the future audience. It's business and it's a good thing for everyone weather you're the consumer or not. If you honestly believe Nintendo is killing gaming, then please don't ever pick up another gaming controller ever again as it's very embarrassing share an interst with someone with that kind of level of intelligence.

Thank you for proving my point.

Once you start playing graphically realistic games, you can't go back. You can't appreciate something that doesn't meet up with your visual standards. I agree that realistic games can sometimes be fun and enjoyable, but they have no charm. Realistic graphics place restrictions that more cartoony games dont' have to deal with - you can do anything in a fantasy world. There are no limitations.

And videogames are not supposed to be 'just' for gamers. You're already a lost cause. You are visually spoiled

They could have ruined gaming, but thankfully most third party developers weren't dumb enough to truly buy into the Wii. The most you can say its doing now is leading the industry down what looks to be a rather pointless path with motion control since I would rather just use a mouse than stand around moving the reticule with my arms or such which would be the best case scenario. If however developers somehow actually come up with a really good use for motion control then I will praise Nintendo for that, but I don't see that happening personally.

Well, they are helping to expand gaming and although they have been promoting the casualization of gaming (making games very easy to pick up and be good at), they aren't the only ones to do that, and perhaps not the first (its been going on for too long for me to know the beginning), they are more or less riding the wave, and just doing a better job at it than anyone else, well monetarily.

I would say no (obviously, you people know my stance by now). What I don't get is how the same people who complain about the there not being enough "gamer" games on the Wii compared to the 360 or PS3 say Nintendo has somehow destroyed all those games when they aren't even on the console. No that I expect a competent answer out of SW.

The only bad game I think Nintendo has made this gen was Wii Music. All the other stuff aren't Shovelware. Also most of the shovelware on the Wii is also on the PS2.

(I'm agreeing with you I'm just adding to your post and saying Sony had Shovelware on its consoles (PS1 and PS2)

No.

Activision is ruining gaming. A lot of casuals who bought the PS2 last gen bought a Wii this gen, but the core gamers are keeping the PS3 and 360 selling well. Its the DLC, microtransactions, and random crap that companies like Activision pull on gamers that is truely killing gaming.

The Wii is actually keeping gaming alive and in the mainstream.

Well they were have the guts to pull the motion sensor out and in turn became the innovator of the generation. We just have to accept that fact even though

that catered only to casuals taste buds rather than core gamers. Without them gaming will be virtually all dudes playing it so I say the opposite despite their

motives of dumbing down the games.

If all the consoles start lowering graphical standards, more people will turn to PC gaming. Something that silly wouldn't end gaming -it would expand it to more general audiences.

[QUOTE="Rahnyc4"]the company thats actually trying to bring something new to the market is ruining gaming??????? neverrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! Yandere

See, I wouldn't say their bringing something new, they're just keeping up with the old.

I remember back when every console had a remote for a controller with a trigger in front and a nunchuck attatchment.[/SARCASM]

yup devs are forced to make realistic graphics on 360 and PS3 and their games are not fun or enjoyable as well .

I do think Nintendo is ruining gaming with Wii. Games are meant to be for gamers...not non-gamers

*facepalm* yes you cant go back to pathetic graphics like wii but you know there are cel shaded games like prince of persia that dont look realstic, also did you forget braid? there are many non realistic looking yet awesome looking games on 360/PS3

Really?

And downloadable games don't count (as some previous poster seemed to think they did)
