[QUOTE="TalesofRaGnArOk"]

If anything Nintendo is still trying to hold onto the past (cartoony, enjoyable, fun), as opposed to MS and Sony which are traversing down the road of realism, i.e. the road of no return - people have become spoiled

sikanderahmed

yup devs are forced to make realistic graphics on 360 and PS3 and their games are not fun or enjoyable as well .

I do think Nintendo is ruining gaming with Wii. Games are meant to be for gamers...not non-gamers

i hope you dont really think that way...

games are a form of entertainment for anybody to enjoy. gamers are just people that enjoy the hobby more than others... and are a whiny bunch, apparently

xbox not including HD cables is not following Nintendo's 'lack of HD' strategy, its following sony's lack of including HD cables strategy

See, I wouldn't say their bringing something new, they're just keeping up with the old.

no, they are just putting a different aspect on "games". Why are gamers so stubborn?? It's not like they are taking away your controller FOREVER, gosh.

Why throw out perfectly good IPs? It has to be better than taking the same games, putting a coat of paint on them and swaping out a few themes, and calling it diffrent.

I don't think Nintendo's ruining gaming, but I was put off by the whole Wiimote thing. Thought it was kind of stupid to use that as your main controller and still kinda do. I might give the system a chance later, but the Wiimote is a huge turnoff.

I don't see how Nintendo is ruining gaming. If it was obvious that Nintendo was ruining gaming, then why would Microsoft and Sony take a similar approach, (in terms of controllers)? I think Nintendo has helped some see that motion controls work, and that they can become the norm in the future. I applaud Nintendo for taking the risk they took with the Wii and helping other companies take on motion controls.

nintendo tried the traditional approach with the GC .. i personally loved the console, but they found it tough competing with the PS2 and xbox so they had to change it up .. they've done that to great effect and are making loads of money but that's not their only goal .. they wanted to get non-gamers into gaming, hoping that one day some will become more traditional gamers you might not like their controller or their shallower games like wii fit, but they still bring out classics like SMG and SSBB .. it just takes time they're not ruining gaming they're just doing what they always do .. try to push the industry forward and provide fun for everyone

Nintendo is not ruining gaming. They found a new way to make money. The 360/PS3 are VERY different from the Wii. The Wii can be cheap with motion controls, the 360 can be cheap with Natal and a standard controler, and the PS3 can be more expensive with motin controls, PSeye, the mic, and standard controller.

All in all the PS3 has everything but at a higher price. They PSeye, mic, and wand will PROBABLY cost about $150 in a bundle, Natal will be $50-$75, and the Wii is the Wii.

What I like about Sony's plan is it will be able to do anything Natal can with the mic and PSeye and anything the Wii can with the wand but most importantly it leaves all of these as an option (unlike Nintendo) and allows devs to do whatever you want with them. My opinion BTW.

They are simply expanding the audience and I don't mind casual games as long as they don't make me look like an idiot.. *Stares at Wii shovelwares..*

Otherwise, it's both Sony and MS who are being greedy so it's not all Nitty's fault there.

Nintendo has been around for what 100 years or so as a company, and has saved video games once already, as far as I am concerned they have earned a free pass to do whatever they want.

Where did the TC get the idea? I dont know.

Is he kidding? Probably

Dude, nintendo is merely topping sales because the Grandmas and childs buy it, and many who own PS3 or 360 has one for sheetz and giggles/for 1 or another good game it has. Appart from that core gamers will always go for ps3 360. Nintendo isnt runnig gamming, for motion sensing doesnt run the industry.

The reason no one cared about the shovelware on the Ps2 because while it did have the most shovelware it still had better games than both the GC and Xbox. Just a thought.....

I don't think any company is ruining gaming - they're just providing more choices.

However, I can't be the only one who sees irony in claiming Nintendo is ruining gaming when the other companies are the ones leading the charge for more expensive games, extra charges for DLC, extra fees for online gaming, etc. Now you have Activision stating that they want to raise prices even more and other companies are decrying the rental and used games markets.

It seems to me like there are greater concerns floating around in the marketplace than whether or not one of the companies is offering you a product that you don't like.

[QUOTE="dr-venkman"]Fact: If you honestly think Nintendo is ruining gaming, you're a sad excuse for a gamer.garland51

Now that was harsh on what you & vdastampede posted. I'm not saying this as fact, just opinion. I just don't want MS & Sony to turn into them by pulling out shovelware titles.

You totally missout the Ps2 last gen right?

@Topic: If ruining the gaming mean bring more gamers to it, Nintendo is totally ruining it, shame on you Nintendo... Shame on you...

I am pondering the question about this, because it seems that both Sony & Microsoft are now coming out with motion sensors, or whatever to compete with the Wii. Also, there's rumors going on that Microsoft will completely eliminate the Pro models & won't be including the component HD AV cables along with the Arcade model (which never happens anyway).

Correct me on those things if I'm wrong, but it seems to me that Nintendo is kind of ruining gaming. I'm also kind of hoping that Microsoft & Sony won't stoop down to Nintendo's level, with not much graphical updates (or even worse, lowering the graphics) in their next-gen consoles because of this.

What do you think?

garland51
Well I can't blame Nintendo for finding a profitable thing and using it. That's the purpose of a corporation. Sony and MS logically want a slice of that pie. As far as MS not including HD component cables with the arcade 360, I point at Sony on that. How do you market an HD game console, brag about it's HD movie playback ability, but not include HD ready cables?

No... they just don't care about "core" gaming anymore and are going an entirely different route. More like a family-friendly commercialization than a "ruining" of gaming.

Still waiting on a Metroid Fusion sequel. And I'm remaining sceptical about Other M until I get to play it. It could be the greatest thing that happened to the series... or the worst. Taking on Team Ninja could go either way.

And one game doesn't make up for all the increased focus on the non-gaming crowd.

A lot of things are ruining gaming these days.

Nintendo, motion controls, overpriced DLC, shorter than average games. Activision, over saturated FPS market, the current economy...

And so on and so forth.

yes, because motion control is the devil

but seriously, if all 3 systems have motion controls, that would simply force the devs to find a way to make motion controls work for different genres. it wouldnt impact gaming negatively at all

The thing is... MS and Sony have good third-party support and won't rely on their gimmicks to sell games. They are just going to be an added bonus.

Nintendo is attempting to rejuvenate the environment with a new method of gameplay. So far it seems to be going in their favor.

Sony and Microsoft are doing their best to create similar styles of gameplay while retaining their dignity.

Lets look at it this way: Liquor drinkers that prefer wine or whiskey look at beer and say its ruining alcohol, while beer just shrugs and counts its money.

The savage beatdown you've been given by just about everyone on this thread should be a solid indicator of how people feel in general about your statement.

Seems to me, IMO, that the only thing Nintendo has done with the Wii and the DS, is expand gaming out to welcome and include new consumers. It would seem to me, that can only benefit the industry. I dunno, that's just my two cents.

Other companies have continued to provide a better experience for me this gen than Nintendo, whatever Nintendo is doing is their business so as long as it doesn't affect my games they aren't ruining anything for me. The only sad bit here to me is that a great dev. like Nintendo is putting their resources on stuff I have no interest in.

So sony's gimmick of 6-axis worked and sold billions of consoles World Wide? No sony dont rely on gimmicks like the new wand technology to help them boost there sales and MS with Natal? I must be from another dimension as these gimmicks dont exist in this world.

WTF? Nintendo has great games! They might have lost this round of the Console Wars (game wise not sales wise) because of all the shovelware developers deciding to pick on Nintendo and make all the crap on the Wii,but games that are actually made by good developers like Nintendo,High Voltage Software,LucasArts, and Activision are not just good, there great (no cereal reference intended :P). Your WAY off on this theory. Nintendo seems like it is focusing on bringing new gamers into the gaming world,so if anything they are making gaming better. Sure,Mario can get old,but they have more than just that. Nintendo is responsible for Ocarina of Time,a game that many people consider the best video game ever. If anything is ruining gaming,it is Microsoft, because they won't fix the red ring of death correctly. Sure systems have problems sometimes, but the red ring is ridiculous. They have known about it for years but they have done nothing to solve it. Tip for Microsoft, stick to PC's.

"Once you start playing graphically realistic games, you can't go back. You can't appreciate something that doesn't meet up with your visual standards."

Wow. The idiocy in this quote is incomprehensible. If you actually feel that way, you ruin gaming for yourself more than any company could ever even remotely come close to.

If you cannot appreciate games like DeBlob, Muramasa, or even the Wii version of Force Unleashed which looks horrendous but controls like a dream, you're just an incredible moron. And if you feel that those realistic-ish attempts at recreating bad action movies and putting playable action sequences inbetween cutscenes are in any way superior to what Nintendo and other developers have been doing on the Wii since Q2-3 2008, you fail at a so unimaginable high level that even Patrick Stewart himself facepalming, dressed in a nightgown of facepalming Patrck Stewart couldn't express the amount of fail you'd exhibit.

God.

In fact, I think a far greater argument could be made that so-called hardcore gamers are ruining gaming.

Yeah, remember when Nintendo started increasing game prices, and having day 1 DLC, releasing unfinished games, selling games that dont even have half the features they're meant to, and releasing the same game every year with very slight changes, oh wait, that's not Nintendo... Seriously I wish that people who stop moaning about what MIGHT happen in the future, and focus on what IS happening now, which is lots of big companies milking gamers for every penny they have, who cares if all consoles use motion sensing if by the time they come out games cost $200, and they're all 2 hours long and DLC comes out for them every week that costs 2000 MS points.
