The fact that the Xbox One launched with tons of negative PR and the Xbox Series X|S launched with tons of positive PR should be proof enough..

If you need more proof: 6 first party studios vs 23 first party studios (including all of Bethesda IP), bad hardware vs great hardware, TV TV TV vs Game Pass, zero b/c vs the best b/c, and the list goes on..

But the biggest accomplishment Phil Spencer made was taking the Xbox brand from a side-project of Microsoft vs making the Xbox brand a key part of Microsoft's cloud ambitions..

^ this has resulted in Microsoft taking Xbox seriously for the first time in history.. That's how you make 7.5 billion dollar acquisitions with the promise of more to come..

In short, Phil has cows seriously nervous about this upcoming generation.. Hence, threads like this

As for creating a better library of exclusives it’s obviously a very slow process. The buildup is pretty impressive. It should teanslate to some great games, but we’ll see.

Microsoft messed up with Halo and corvid has delayed games on all platforms.

They have invested in current games (bought developers) much more than last gen.

Yet again they released the best console in terms of graphical performance.

But they do need to bring more out to show it off.

I think they should have done more with the controller.

I think so far the games released on both consoles is pretty poor. I'm enjoying playing last gen games on my PS5. With they had better BC like Xbox.

Its a waiting game for consoles, GPU's and games at the moment. Just the way it is.

At which point GamePass will flex its muscles even more so.

X-Series can't play most BC and Xbox One / X games without going online disc doesn't have the X Series game on it more DRM.

Don Mattrick left in Mid 2013 prior to X1 launch . You could argue he was responsible for the launch titles but Spencer took over early 2014 after being led in the interim by CEO Steve Ballmer.

Sure, Xbox had more launch titles but a lot of them were 3rd party deals. Mattrick famously considered first party titles and new ips to be a risk. He led the charge to divest in first parties and focus on becoming an entertainment box, not to mention the whole online requirement and suggesting people buy a 360 if they didn't like it.

He is directly responsible for the failure of Xbox One, from design to focus on anything other than games. He joined Xbox in 2007 when 360 was running on all cylinders and started to cut back on games and the last few years of 360 were as dry as a desert.

At least Phil has managed to change the narrative and invest in first party studios. He also got rid of Kinect and released consoles that actually looked like consoles.

I definitely agree that we haven't seen many first party games but they have 23 studios. I wonder what your argument will be when they start releasing games on PC and Xbox.

What's Sony going to have after 2021? Nearly all their big studios just got off of big projects and it will take at least 2 years for them to produce another. All cows have to look forward to so far after 2021 is God Of War Ragnarok. Meanwhile we know that Microsoft already has several games well into development and their acquisition of Bethseda increased that even more.

Cows are bragging about a having a better launch year when they're going to be facing a drought right after it.

Amusing that you believe these studios have only one team working on one game at a given time each. 😆

@wonderwinner: Insomniac has two teams and they released Mile Morales about 7 months ago and are about to release Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, do they have a third team no ones heard of because it seems to me its going to be quiet sometime before you get another Spiderman or Ratchet & Clank game. Suckerpunch spent nearly the entire generation working on Ghost Of Tsushima I doubt they have a second team and if they do they were likely working on the same project.

Naughty Dog has two teams and even they themselves said they struggle with working on multiple projects at once. Both teams don't have hundreds of developers working on their games, one has the large team focusing on the title closer to release and the other smaller team just works on pre-production of the later title. As far as we know with Naughty Dog they're working on the multiplayer to TLOU2 and a TLOU remake. So no new games from them for a while. Guerilla Games and Santa Monica released their last titles in 2017 and 2018 so that it makes sense that in 2021 and 2022 they'd have enough time to release properly developed sequels. That is 4-5 years after the launch of their previous games. If they had multiple teams they sure as heck didn't release anything within that timespan before GoW Ragnarok and HFW.

So again what does Sony have in store for after 2021 besides God Of War Ragnarok and Gran Turismo 7?

Nothing, the xbox kept on consistenly selling worse than the ps4, even after the xboxone x, and even after gamepass, and don't give me that bs that gamepass has 23 million subscribers,

I'm one of those subscribers, it's so cheap with the gold upgrade system that it might as well be free, and it's overrated, none of these games are really interesting, and the ones that are interesting I already bought when they released ages ago.
