Asking as PS exclusives are releasing on PC ( Kingdom Hearts series , Days Gone , Yakuza 3/4/5/6, Horizon Zero Dawn , Persona 4 Golden , Persona 5 Strikers , A legit source claiming God of War and Ghost of Tsushima on its way to PC ETC ). Pretty sure , more games will be ported to PC along the way by end of PS 5 lifecycle as it makes sense from commercial point as PS games on PC get a big sales boost ( See Persona 4 Golden for example). See Xbox , its a win win situation for both PC and Xbox fans regarding games.

Playstation once famous for its exclusivity like Nintendo , losing its games to PC with time.

Please correct me if im wrong,

Thanking everyone in davance.

If PlayStation failed, I think Sony might go under. Nintendo also relies on their video games to stay afloat. It's gotta be pretty intimidating having Microsoft making these big moves knowing they'd be just fine if Xbox went under.

I can see one of these trillion dollar companies having a bidding war to see who gets to buy out 70 billion dollar Sony in the near future. Might not be this generation, but it will indefinitely happen.

I mean, if you take PlayStation fanboy logic into consideration, yes. Because according to them if your console allows there games to be on PC, there is no point in getting a console anymore and this, the console is considered dead.

So yes, PlayStation is dying and it’s glorious. Not because technically dying (it’s not), but the spin coming from that camp now is the gift that keeps on giving.

It's not. Porting games to other platforms doesn't mean they're dying. It means the company is just smart.

They better not. If they do, expect $30 gamepass, $100 xbl and the highest quality exclusive from Microsoft would be Crackdown 3 level. Competition is needed.

@kazumakiryu21: These games have been out for a while, they’re no longer console-selling games. Therefore it makes financial sense to release them on PC for an additional stream of revenue.

It’s been a similar situation with MS, they’ve released various MS-games on other platforms since they’re not console-shifters. This might be their approach going forward with the Zenimax deal.

Going back to Sony, the company is doing quite well, if you check out their stock price since October last year they’ve gained quite a lot.

Sony started selling a select few games on PC, way after their releases on their console when the sales of the games had slowed down. This made them earn a lot more cash for the games.

Please explain how earning a lot more cash for old games while still having exclusives would hurt Sony? Imma wait.

Why would changing equal "dying"? The only thing that would happen is PS games came to the PC, is that the cows feelings would be hurt. That's it. NOTHING else would change.

In fact it would be great business for Playstation if for example, Gran Turismo came to the PC where there is a player base for that sort of game.

Nah, they are just adjusting for changing times. Consoles are a relic of a past and there won't be a place for them in the future.

When PS5 slips into 3rd place in a NPD month or two, cows can start to worry. But until then, I see no real reason for concern. All the message board talk about exclusives, and being “consumer friendly” doesn’t always correlate with financial success. If that were the case Xbox would be far away in the lead. But in reality they’ve sunk further and further into 3rd.

A leaker with a largely solid track record claims that a crop of prominent PlayStation exclusives are headed to PC in the near future.

It may be untrue as well lol, only speculations so far.

Exclusives took a different angle when Microsoft did the same, Sony are just catching up.

I don't think its dying or even in any sort of major trouble. the PS5 is selling gangbusters, PSN subscriber numbers are good i think and plenty of games (first and 3rd party) are sold on playstation. there is nothing to indicate that sony are looking at a vita style disaster for their main console for now.

They are in a bit of a conundrum regarding their exclusives though. Its going to be harder and harder for sony to justify spending huge money on their exclusives while keeping them only on the PS5/6/7. It is extremely risky. One vita or wiiu situation would be an absolute catastrophe for them. as far as i can find the production budget for their own games seem to top out at 50million ish (Horizon was 47million). thats ok for a 100+ million selling PS4. what happens if the PS6 falls flat on its face and sells only 20 million units? you cant spend big money and lock the game to a platform with such a small userbase.

meanwhile multiplat AAA publishers spend multiples of that and can spread the risk a lot more. how will sony maintain a reputation of AAA productions without the AAA budget?

so its going to be interesting to see how they handle that this gen. just have timed exclusives for the PS5? strictly cap their budgets and accept that they will fall behind in the production values race? do what MS are doing with Xbox and bring playstation to more devices? just completely change their focus with first party games with more of a focus on interesting ideas with solid AA budgets (Historically this hasn't really worked for them too well)? say to hell with it and spend 500million quid on the next horizon/uncharted/GOW (highly unlikely)? hard to say at the moment.

Nah, Sony too big to fail. And Playstation nets them a pretty penny despite being a small amount of their total income, so I don't think it is going anywhere.

You don't need Game Pass

Exclusives are a shit practice

There's more to gaming than Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.

There is plenty of competition; the "Big Three" are losing a few percent each year to independent and small studios.

They're porting over last gen games. There's no indication that they're porting over PS5 games for day one releases and, I don't think they will any time soon. Selling PS5s is still a huge priority. PSN sales and, PSN+ subscriptions is the majority of their revenue.

Horizon Forbidden West not releasing on PC alongside the PS4/PS5 versions tells me they are willing to wait.

They're better off releasing on PS4/PS5 (if it make can be done etc.) simply to keep people in their platform.

The Playstation brand is still strong. Stronger than the xbox brand. However, I have a feeling Gamepass will slowly kill Playstation, or at least give it a good run for its money. Not now, but let us take up this discussion again in about 2-3 years

the only thing dying is the traditional concept of the "console wars".. in an upcoming landscape where digital distribution is king and streaming services are truly viable, measuring success by NPD numbers is meaningless..

as long as Sony is selling PlayStation software and services, they'll be fine.. and selling their software and services on PC only serves to help that goal..
