Sorry , i'm not a Sony Hater. I owned every Sony systems (Except PS) till PS 4. But seems PS 5 games lacking exclusive games with exception of few like Demons Souls (that too remake). Most games are multplats , dont see exclusive games of my liking releasing for PS 5 also. Its holding me back.

Need all your honest opinion about PS 5 , if its popular as rest SONY systems?

Well?

It's as big in Europe for sure Sony has always dominated the European market.

This is easily the very worst generation Iin Playstation history in terms of unique experiences. The exclusive game is dying, game budgets are a mess, services cost more, hardware got a price hike... Meaningless unsupported peripherals. Ya, Sony was an easy pass this gen.

I cannot say what every gamer is out for, because it's so different across the spectrum, but Sony did not put a compelling generation together and it further eroded my belief in the tradition console market.

Look at the last 4 Playstation generations, all the games and franchises.... Do you believe the tradition console model is trending in the right direction?

You spoke my mind , thanks for clarifying my similiar doubts about PS 5. I was thinking i'm the only one who lost interest in PS 5.

Nope! But then again, consoles aren't are popular as they used to be. They are no longer the behemoth in gaming.

I don’t understand what they are doing tbh 🤷🏻‍♂️. They had so many great single player games on Ps4. It’s unclear to me why they have not been able to continue in the same style. Why change a winning strategy?

Well the PS2 is still the best selling system so no subsequent PlayStation system has managed to grow the brand any. In fact it’s shrank. Kind of tells you all you need to know. Games have increased in cost to produce substantially which is why Sony is now making their games multi platform.

Well I haven’t paid that close attention, so not sure what it is. But it seems to me they had a brilliant portfolio of SP games that won GOTY like every year (and I personally enjoyed a ton as well).

But they switched to games like Concord and other service titles.

Sony was my favourite publisher, but now their games don’t interest me. Went so fast 🤷🏻‍♂️

Such a clean and clear observation that anyone should understand and deduce, given the information. This is why it is so confusing to some.😂

@Pedro: I thought so as well. It was also why they raised prices for their games, products, and services. They may not be done on that front either but they know that they can only do that so much and/or so often and get away with it.

It would be interesting to see where everything would be in the next 5 years. All of the nonsense that is transpiring right now would be funny to read (it is funny now) then.

The problem is, as I have seen discussed elsewhere, is the graphical leap between the last generation and this generation is the smallest between the generations. The only reason to switch is for faster loading times and 60 fps - which is not present in all games.

There was a massive graphical leap between the PS2 and PS1. A decent once between PS3 and PS2 and the first network capability. There was even one between PS3 and PS4.

There really is very little reason to upgrade.

That is true, but I still think if Sony had released a similar lineup to the Ps4 it wouldn't have mattered too much. Those games still look great today. Sequels or new IPs. Strong single player games of similar scope with slightly better graphics would have been awesome.

I am not really buying the ballooning budget argument either. Sony never made the biggest games in terms of scope. They were not trying to match the GTAs and the Cyberpunks. They always made tighter AAA games, but very high quality. Given that graphics are not too different, neither should cost be.

PS5 reminds me of the PS3. Came during a bad time and the economy wasn't doing so great. It also had very little games that I was interested in.

I'd say it's PS2 > PS4 > PS1 > PS3 > PS5.

As popular? Not sure. In terms of experience, not for me. Markets naturally evolve, but at least the OG PS' (1-3) systems had more iconic games.

Probably the peak of PS was the PS2 in terms of popularity and games (but also had the most shovelware too) it's been steadily going downhill from there.

https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2024/08/sony-to-short-change-ps-stars-members-with-ps-plus-renewals-starting-next-year

A second thing Sony are doing to upset their customers is to constantly change the way they run PS Plus. As the bottom tier member I always used to get a discount in their sales on the membership cost. Now the only discounts are for members moving up to the next tier. There is not enough for me personally to move up to the next tier but they seemed hell bent in forcing me to.

If that wasn't bad enough, and only affects cheapskates like me, they have made changes to their PS Stars members. You can no longer carry points past a year and if you do not agree to these changes then they will cancel your PS Stars membership. Not a good way to treat the most devoted of PS Plus members.

They seem not have noticed the rise of the handhelds and mini-PCs. If the Steam Deck 2 is a banger then some of these pissed off people may decide to switch come 26/27 and the PS6. They have to give us a reason to buy the new hardware!

Ohh so switching to GAAS and whoring your games out to PC isn't getting people interested in the PS5?

Who would have thought?

I went from ps4 to steam deck... The writing was already on the wall. I cancelled my psn+ account at the moment they split it into tiers.... Have been enjoying free online gaming with deck and a massive library of games to choose from, most of which play no trouble. Steam deck crushes in the value department.

Steam deck 2 or one of its pc handheld contemporaries will be a prime pick for next gen. If they can get it running modern games it'll be an easy KO on the next consoles.

I think PS5 might be trending ahead of PS4 which is surprising .... it's more expensive then PS4 ever was and hasn't gotten a real price cut either and many of its games are available on PS4.

Might be due to the Xbox not providing much competition.

It's not that ps5 is bad...it's just the Xbox is clobbering it with quality games, and giving these games away on gamepass. If this were last gen, sony fans would be raving about hell divers 2 and wukong. But xbox has been pumping out games on that level for the past 4 years non stop through gamepass, making the Playstation look worthless. Even games like final fantasy lost their shine. Nobody cares.

On top of that, sony realizes that gaming isn't about exclusives anymore, because xbox is literally clobbering them over the head with quality titles, so Sony is forced to dilute their own exclusive franchises by releasing on pc.

@Star67: Overall it's difficult to decide because none of the generations were really bad, otherwise everyone would know which one to call out right away. Luckily none of the current big 3 have had anything like the Jaguar.

I have no evidence to back it up, but it is my impression that people are generally disappointed with the PS5 and its lack of exclusives. The PS4 was a much better console with a steady flow of exclusives.

I played PS1, PS2, skipped PS3, played PS4, and I have no problems skipping PS5. I ain't missing out on much.

I always thought that the PS2 was overrated, at least in the beginning of its life cycle. The Sega Dreamcast had much cooler games to offer.

@girlusocrazy: True

We need to wait till the gen is over to decide Im sorry. I know the PS5, and the rest of the consoles, are having a slump right now but they could all finish strong.

But during this Slump we have FF7, Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade, Rise of Ronin, Wukong, MGS3 Remake, Elden Ring DLC. That's really not too bad of a slump

I mean how many games do you need?

@Star67: It's pretty funny at the beginning of each generation people are like "why do we need these consoles, the old ones haven't been used to their fullest yet", immediately start complaining that the new consoles don't have true next gen games yet, but actually the new consoles can't do as much as they wished and games are hitting the hardware limits. The narrative is all over the map. People just like to complain and I guess this board is a place for these people.

@pmanden: By me saying PS2 was peak for Playstation is in no way me saying it was the greatest console or anything like that.

It's sales had a lot to do with it having a DVD player built in. Sure it had some great games, but at that point in time Sony was basically giving out licenses on the back of cereal boxes, which means it has way more crappy games than it did have great ones.

And yes the Dreamcast will go down as the best library of any console in its first 2yrs of its life, heck I would even say it's short life produced better games than last gen and so far this gen has.

@indy_2024: You are not wrong, but I imagine Sony PlayStation still has a death grip on sports fans, many of which prefer a simplified, sit-down console experience. It's not to say Xbox doesn't have its fair share of sports fans as well, but usually when I think of PlayStation, I think of FIFA and Sony's general presence with sports fans.

For a system about exclusives, it’s kinda the N64 of the gen… The exclusives are few and far between.
