I've been asking that forever too.

Its selling fairly well, but there was a huge jump in X360 sales around the release of Gears last year that I doubt the PS3 will match even with the price cut. If I recall the X360 moved 2 million units in Nov/Dec last year. Even if you take Sony at their word for the sales increase on Black Friday week they are still only on par to sell like 500 k for the whole month of Nov, and will probably have similar results in Dec.KodiakGTS

Surprisingly, PS3 is on track to match what 360 did last year over the same period. At this point in their lifetime, 360 was at 6,694,092. Ps3 is currently at 6,355,733. Based on what ps3 sold this past week, it will easily be at 8million (minimum) by the end of the year.

There are two problems though. (i) 360 had a much better install base in America than ps3 does and this affects software sales. The difference is made up in japan, but attach rate their is much worse than in america.

(ii) 360 is selling much better at the moment here and now (although ps3 has matched it the last two weeks, but it was being destroyed prior to that)

No, the first year sales are the same, it all comes down to how the PS3 does in its Q4 cause the 360 reached about 8 million by January.

That isnt too bad, being off by about7 weeks. They are almost similar, so it still comes down to the PS3s holiday sales.

Ok i keep hearing two different things, on one side I keep hearing that 360 hit 10 million units sold worldwide within the first 8 months it was released, I am also hearing it took MS a full year and a half to hit the 10 million mark.. Sony reported that the sales of PS3 has increased by 245% in North America during the US Thanksgiving week, the estimated sales is between 321,000 so far for the month of November.

Nintendo announced they have sold more than 350,000 units of Wii during the Thanksgiving week, and warning customers that Wii would be scarce through the end of the year. Nintendo expects to sell 17.5 million Wii Consoles in the fiscal year of 2007.

VGC is often wrong though. And VGC changes their numbers whenever NPD comes out.

Because this has been said several times, with different sources VGC,etc. All 360 fans do is discredit them, i know there only estimates but there fairly accurate and do actual follow the NDP. So if your dis-agreeing is there an actual reason why?
Its only been out 8 months and has considerable market share in Europe.

It was there to clear out 60gb's to clear way for the 80gb models, nothing more. The only official price cut was the one that just happened when the 80gb went to $500 and the 40gb model was introduced at $400. And who cares...it's increasing sales. And the PS3 was still $600 for over 90% of the time of it's first year. So, yes, my statement is still correct.

It wasn't selling well due to the $600 price. But, considering its price, it wasn't that bad of sales. That's all i meant. A $600 console could've sold alot worse than 6 million in its first year.

What you said would have been a bit more valid if the PS3 actually quickly sold through those 60gig models. You could easly find a PS3 for $500 after the first drop. If you chose to buy the version with extra HDD space you got a free $60 game. Oh yeah and you could get 5 BluRay movies for free on top of that.

The simple truth is that the PS3 poor sales forced SONY to cut the price early. The 360 went for nearly 2 full years before dropping the price/ bundling games. SONY would love to be able to have said the same about the PS3.

The 360 didn't sell 10 million last year. It sold something like 8.5m or something. I think the PS3 could hit 8.5 this year, and sell over 11m (Possibly somewhere around 15m depending on how much they can snag the casual market with LBP) before the end of Q2 '080rin
