If current gen consoles can barely handle 720p, what makes you think the next gen consoles will magically jump up to handling 4K when a PC can't even do that?

And some don't even run on 720p. And again, think what games runs on 1080p on consoles today and why?
Also GPU not does not matter here, device still can output 4K. PC already can display beyond HD, how it's possible to display it via consoles? 4K output, but who said it needs to be 4K game?
And before you think im crazy, if PS4 will be annouce this year i would not expect 4K it seems to early technology, but who knows what 2012 may bring to the end
Uh, yes, the GPU would matter a lot here. On consoles, even if you set your resolution to 1080p, every game will output at it's native resolution. CoD, for example, is something like 1024x600. The TV then upscales(or downscales) the image to the TV's native res. The console GPU is rendering 1024x600 pixels, the TV is scaling upscaling it to 1080p. For a game to really be 4K, you would need a 4K tv, a GPU that can handle outputting 4K, and the game to have a native resolution of 4K. Simply put, it will cost far too much.
PS3 not outputing native res of game, DVI could handle that, but HDMI does not support that.
