Well on CES Sony annouce 4K Upscaleing Bluray player and hint that they working on first 4K TVs

What is 4K? it's simply think that comes after HD and standard in which resolution is 4 times higher then HD,4096x2160 to be more exact

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/4K_resolution

Currenly only existing 4K displays are projectors and some monitors

Considering the fact that PS3 was pretty much one of HD pionerring devices, there major quastion come in.... will PS4 gonna be 4K device or atleast sub to that (higher then HD)? Or it is worth to wait another 5 years even if 4K TV come in in the way?

4k = 4x 1080p. Simply enough. An upscaling Blu-Ray player would be just that...something that upscales to 4k.

However, a game running at 4k? No way. This ain't PC.

Well it does not need to run in full 4K as PS3 don't run on full HD at most. And isn't current consoles are equile to hardware of PC on times where they been made? so PC or not it does not matter

Considering the vast majority of movies aren't in 4K...and you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference unless you had a massive screen...I think it's safe to say that the PS3 will not display 4K resolution in any capacity.

Uhm no.

It takes 4 video cards to run TODAY's games on 4 1080p panels. You think the PS4 will be able to do that for even mroe advanced games?

Also GPU not does not matter here, device still can output 4K. PC already can display beyond HD, how it's possible to display it via consoles? 4K output, but who said it needs to be 4K game?

And before you think im crazy, if PS4 will be annouce this year i would not expect 4K it seems to early technology, but who knows what 2012 may bring to the end

Nope unless its going to cost 5-10 grand, plus you can have your 5 grand tv. As it was stated running something like eye finity on 3 is hard for many high end rigs.

Yes, some PS3 not even run 720p, yet both PS3 and 360 even with upscaled games are device that can output to 1080p, why not PS4 would be able to output 4K whatever game resolution is?

But many PC players ARE playing on an LCD tv (like me). Most HD tv's have a PC input OR high end video cards (like mine) have an HDMI output.

which completely wastes the hardware inside it, you do know to even output games at the res your talking about you would need some high end gpu/gpu's (as in $600 gpu's) and if you upscale to that res why even bother?

yay more BS from the land of console hardware, first the PS2 is going to make CGI look like a joke, then PS3s will replace the home PC, now PS4 wants 4k? Give me a break...better yet, keep it coming, laughter is good for the soul.

I can see it supporting and will make a nice advertising gimmick but don't see it actually being used much due to lack of content at that resolution the pixel junk games should be able to run at 4K native though :D

of course, not only would the screen cost a ton but the hardware to run at that resolution would be far too great to sell in a console

Uh, yes, the GPU would matter a lot here. On consoles, even if you set your resolution to 1080p, every game will output at it's native resolution. CoD, for example, is something like 1024x600. The TV then upscales(or downscales) the image to the TV's native res. The console GPU is rendering 1024x600 pixels, the TV is scaling upscaling it to 1080p. For a game to really be 4K, you would need a 4K tv, a GPU that can handle outputting 4K, and the game to have a native resolution of 4K. Simply put, it will cost far too much.

95% of console games are sub-HD. Do a little research.

PS3 not outputing native res of game, DVI could handle that, but HDMI does not support that.

Again TC, why does it matter?

TV shows are shot in 2K (a little more than 1080p). The vast majority of movies (and all 35mm film movies) are shot in 2K.

Animated movies are rendered in 2K.

And, you wouldn't even be able to tell the difference when something is in 4K.

Take a look at this chart:

You'd have to have an absolutely massive screen to even properly make use of 4K (a little more than 2160p) resolution.

And some don't even run on 720p. And again, think what games runs on 1080p on consoles today and why?

Also GPU not does not matter here, device still can output 4K. PC already can display beyond HD, how it's possible to display it via consoles? 4K output, but who said it needs to be 4K game?

And before you think im crazy, if PS4 will be annouce this year i would not expect 4K it seems to early technology, but who knows what 2012 may bring to the end

PS3 not outputing native res of game, DVI could handle that, but HDMI does not support that.

What? I can barely understand you, and you have no idea what you're talking about.

The tech to [affordably] render a game in 4k resolution is WAYY off. PS4 would have to be a $1,000 console that still bleeds tons of money.

You guys still dont diffrent rendering from outputing and fact that game does not need to be high-end and struggle with hardware, again what games run 1080p on today consoles?

Because 4k upscaling means nothing when

1. It's just upscaling. All 5 people that'll be able to use it right now won't care either.

2. There is no content what-so-ever that supports 4k resolution. We didn't crap ourselves over 1080p upscaling DVD players, we won't bother looking at current 4k upscaling Blu-Ray players.
