isnt bad at all if u ask me, in fact I stopped renewing my gold membership 'cause I really didnt feel like it was worth to keep paying for something that u cant get for free at pretty much the same quality...Live sure is flashier but PSN holds up pretty well..

PSN is fantastic, and so is XBL. XBL just gives you a little more features if youre willing to pay for it. /thread.

Nothing wrong with PSN at all....it seems well supported, I can play online, browse the net, the interface is clean and intuitive. It seems totally functional to me. It must have been truly horrible in 2007 to get the dyed in the wool bad reputation that many are struggling to maintain. PLUS: the browser allows us internet porn on the big screen. I rest my case.

I like PSN a lot, whenever I turn my PS3 on I go to check out what's new before playing and online play is great. The only thing I complain about is that some updates take too much time downloading but that could be my ISP (it sucks!).

Live has auto-renewals, long lobby waits, and REQUIRED MAP PURCHASES. I just wanna know if PSN is really all that bad when it's free. Had a x360 since 2006 so dont say iam flaming. Michael324

Long lobby waits? That really depends on the game, I'd say. But Halo 3, Modern Warfare, and World at War take no time at all to find a match.

In 2007 it was "in" to criticize the PS3 in every way possible. 46 inches of internet porn! I never thought I'll see the day :)

Once you tried XBL and go to PSN you start noticing the differences almost everyone mentions here...Things that XBL almost take for granted are kind of a luxury for PSN. If you have your friends on XBL the way you comunicate, play games and invite or create groups is totally diferent and awesome. With PSN that kind of stuff is not necessarily that simple.

Of course when you only talk about playing online the whole experience is not that different, but when it comes to the features XBL is definitely better. Even when playing online you can still find more people to play with in most of the games..since there are usually more people playing (SF4, TF2, UT3, Call of Duty3, etc.)

For some reason it has more people and people who are willing to pay. They are happily paying for something that is differrent. if it wasn't, people just wouldn't keep paying. XBL wouldn't be here right now.

-- PSN is more than good enough for a free service. It'll probably never reach the expansiveness of XBL (this gen) considering it's been up years before 360 even launched and MS's software skills.

-- What's impressive and good for users is Sony's response to the skeleton that was PSN at launch. It's really come a LONG way in 2.5 years. Sony is refocusing portions of its identity and resources as a software provider. Now they needs to add cross-game chat/ invites (earlier this year they said they're working on it).

-- The PS store is great, and I find the browser very useful given the situation. Home is really coming into it's own...not for everyone, but it's constantly getting better. I'm looking forward to VidZone's US release.

No, PSN is not shoddy.

But personally, it's just not as good as Xbox Live.

The only real differences are Party system and cross-game chat. It's a bit more streamlined too. Outside of that, it's less to do with the service, and personal preference, or how many friends you know with the same console.

Xbox Live doesn't have any required map purchases...

Everything is optional.

And, No, PSN is great. Zero issues with it. Dedicated servers are very nice.

ya i hated the fact that halo 3 needed you too purchase all the map packs in order for you to play big-team battles and other modes besides team social. RIP OFF!!!!! warhawk, killzone, metal gear online, and even call of duty 4 does not require you to purchase all the map packs.

Here in Oz, the live store is dead where as the PSN store always has content. As for online gaming they are both the same in terms of reliability. I only have one mate who has a 360 so i dont really miss the cross chat feature. And as for mics, go on burnout paradise. id say 65% of players on there have mics

no, PSN is awesome. it's just not as pretty as the X360's interface. thats pretty much it.

LeGoofyGoober

What are you talking about? The PS3 interface blows 360's away, not to mention you can make new themes and customize each icon.

They do the main job right which is letting you play online :)

Then each has its own different features which the other doesnt.... the main difference though is that PSN is for Free while XBL comes at an extra cost per year(not much though)

[QUOTE="NYrockinlegend"] There's also dedicated servers in most(not all) PS3 games. The servers mostly run pretty smoothly, unless it's a problem of the game or the way it was developed. There is little lag in the games that utilize them, but let's face it, it's impossible for a game to have NO LAG. It's SCIENTIFICALLY impossible.;)heretrix

Dedicated servers run in almost all first party games, everything else is just like XBL...I'm glad to see that there are people out there that know what they are talking about tho. Good on you man.

He failed to factor in quantum entanglement.
