Ok i dont have any handheld systems and thinking about getting one. Ive did some research on here on the games and it seems like the PSP has a awesome game library and great features but yet I always see people on here bashing PSP and making fun of it because of its sales.. You can now get a PSP at best buy which comes with 2GB memory stick, free movie, Gran Turismo and the PSP 3000 system all for just $199.99, is it worth it to buy the PSP or is it in danger of being discontinued?

Get one, just dont get the PSP Go. I dont think it's going anywhere anytime soon... besides, there are so many games to play on there anyway. After all the dedication Sony has given the PSP this past year, and with the PSN integration of buying PSP games online... it aint going anywhere anytime soon. I regret selling mine last year.

Why would anyone ever take SW opinions on a system or game seriously?

Do your own research and if you want the PSP then buy it. Geez.

Yea i dont get all the hate on gaming forums and on here.. I mean the PSP has some ace games, its a excellent system from what i know and yet people make fun of it.. I was maybe considering the DS but i honestly dont see what people see in that system, i was researching games on both platforms and the DS just doent seem to have near the quality games the PSP has, i dont get why it sells so much.

:)LOL never listen to what people here have to say!! :D ya just cant trust them. Make a list of what you want from a hand held. Games, Online, Wifi, ... what do you want to do with it? Is it the screen for watching movies, or just for gaming??

In the end if you do not know see if you can borrow a friends PSP and some games.

Ok

Here's the deal, if you like the games on the PSP more than the games on DS, go with what you want. People here love the DS because it's a handheld and plays games a handheld should play while the PSP they treat it like a PS2 clone only a fail in their eyes.

I had a PSP and well it was fun. I don't game on handhelds anymore (If you don't count the Itouch) and well while I had my PSP 2000, there were plenty of fun experiences on it.

So don't let things like sales and piracy cloud your judgement. If the PSP has good games for you, get it. It's a great mutimedia device when not playing games (Next to the Iphone.Itouch imo) and you can have loads of fun with it.

Which model you should get? If have money and don't want to fiddle with UMD's go with the GO. But I see you've already made up your mind on the 3000 but that's good too.

Just make sure they have games you want. Dont get a go since its to expensive now. Though downloading psp games isint a bad choice either. Since I have the star wars psp and I use it to download some games.

I prefer the psp over the ds. I am a graphics whore and don't like the touchscreen on the ds. I use the psp for other media too.(mp3,Videos and pictures) In the end it comes down to the games though. Check out thier libraries and see what u like.

It comes down to preference of games. I have owned both psp and DS, and enjoyed PSP more. I don't know, I just found that so many DS games are too kiddy and yea I didn't really like the old graphics. I would definitely go with PSP3000 over PSPgos simply because I can buy/sell psp games online.

It has less original/AAA games.

And as an owner of both, the DS does have more 'epic quality' games than the psp. Keyword being MORE. The PSP itself certainly has its gems that could never happen on the DS (like Dissidia, or Monster Hunter, Peace Walker, or God of War: CoO, etc.)

If you like RPGs, quirky/fun games, but don't care about graphics, go for the DS

If you want popular Sony franchises, go for the psp.

I love my PSP, and it's what I normally play. Though it shouldn't be ignored that the DS does have a solid lineup of great games. Especially if you like RPGs. The World Ends with You and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor were my two favorite handheld games I played this year.

Don't listen to sw people about the psp , a lot of sys wars are ds fans who for some reason can't admit that the psp is great too. I own both and if you want console quality games with good graphics , psp is the place to be! It also does a lot of extra stuff too, like music, movies, photos, (like a mini ps3) and it connects to the ps3, you can play some ps3 games on the psp using remote play, Blazblue, bionic commando rearmed, and all the pixel junk games to name a few. Plus if you are in a hotel connect your psp to the tvout on the tv and go over the wifi internet to access your ps3 just like you were there, message friends, watch movies whatever. Its a great device with killer games. I reccomend : Any of the Final Fnatasy games : Dissidia, Tactics war of the lions, Crisis Core, FF1, FF2, FF7 , FF8 Suikoden (if you are into ps1 rpgs, its an epic) Tekken 5 (or 6) Castlevania Dracula X - $20 gets you The turbographix 16/CD version of Rondo of Blood, Rondo of Blood remake in 2.5d , and the complete Syphony of the Night GTA - Liberty city stories and Vice city stories are like GTA3 and GTA vice city, they contain great soundtracks/radio stations and play like 3d gta GTA - chinatown wars, plays like gta2 but has the complete gta4 city , and good missions plus drug dealing, it lacks voiced radio though and is top down Half Minute Hero - great rpg spoof game fun as hell! Holy invasion of privacy Badman, What did I do to deserve this? --- Fantastic game and its cheap... get it! Rock band unplugged, -- its like a mix between Amplitude, frequency and Rock band but you play all the instruments, lots of licensed rock! God of War: chains of Olympus -- great game prequel to GOd of war 1 it has stellar production value Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror and Logan's Shadow -- Greatest spy tactical shooters on a portable system high quality cg and story, gory with many gadgets Resistance Retribution - Prequel to Resistance 2 , takes place in Europe with different main character, great story, REs1 narartor and great graphics / controls Jeanne D' Arc,- Level 5 SRPG epic story and gameplay Disgaea 1 and 2 - remakes for the psp , but they have more and look better than the ps2 versions. Crimson Gem Saga - great old school style rpg Cla$$ of Heroes - - Anmie style Wizardry game Monster Hunter Unite - Great co-op Metal Gear Portable Ops - (don't get plus as that is multiplayer only) post mgs3 game , prequel to peacewalker, oh and download the peacewalker demo LBP - Little big planet on psp.. need I say more? Persona 1 (3 is coming out too) Silent Hill 1 , and Silent Hill origins (prequel to 1) great horror MGS1- Resident Evil 1,2,3, Tomb Raider, 1,2,3,4 Crash Bandicoot 1,2,3 Star Ocean 1 and 2 Dungeon Siege - great diablo like game Socom Tactical strike Socom Fire team bravo 2 star wars battelfront renegade or elite squadron... its star wars battlefront man! Wipeout Pure-- its freaking wipeou it rockS! Lumines and these are just some games I own and recommend. What are you waiting for? Buy it now!!!!

I really haven't seen many people making fun of the PSP. If you ignore the PSP Go, the PSP has a decent reputation. I have a 3000 (after first owning a 1000) and I couldn't be happier. I always have games to play, and now with hundreds of PSP games on PSN (along with PS1 games), you can pick up most digitally, and others through UMD. It's a great system to own.

The PSP is good or bad depending on what your looking for out of it. It does not have the variety that the DS library has, and for the most part, RPGs are the more dominant genres on the handheld since it gets more Japanese Support than western.

Get one, they're brilliant, a million times better than the DS.

You are such a blatant fanboy. First you hate on xbox because you don't like ads on the dashboard when you don't play on a console to sit on the dashboard and now you are saying how bad ds are. Back on topic i like the psp and you should definetly get one but the only games i have on the system are Gta liberty and vie city stories and i would get chinatown wars for it but i have it on ds. I also definetly plan to buy Valkyria Chronicles 2. The only games i would consider getting for the system are Monster Hunter, Assassin's creed, and Kingdom Hearts, but if you have different tastes then me like God of War and Little Big Planet then you would definetly enjoy it. Overall i like the ds better because it has gta chinatown wars (supperior version imo), the legend of Zelda spirit tracks, and phantom hourglass, okamiden, super mario 64, metroid prime hunters, and many more that are all must buysso if you don't already have ds get that instead.

i like the psp 3000, my only gripe about it is its design, it has a design made for the younger demographic of people, thats why im getting a psp go also because it seems like the design is more for people ages 26 and up

the psp is a good buy if your into music games and movies

for games, u have alot of selection

for movies, you have alot of selection if you have a 16 gb and up memory stick

for music, u got internet radio with a endless supply of music with "high defintion sound"

can surf the net

can call people with skype

can remote play

I don't know... I own a PSP, but the games are too few and far between. I almost traded it in a few times, but my wife likes to use it for video on long trips. I don't care much for it anymore. I recently bought LBP for it, and it was a bore fest, so I traded it in. And I hate doing that.

It's an amazing system in my opinion. If your planning on buying one, definitely go for PSP 3000 as people have mentioned. PSP Go is just dreadful and is not going to go far in the future. Great amount of games on the PSP, and strong multimedia support, definitely get one.

i bought a PSP go day 1 and love it. Its a sweet system with great games. I have owned a PSP since the beginning of its existence. Dont let people on this board fool you into thinking its not worth it or the DS is better. BTW: The PSP Go is worth every penny if you can afford it.

More advice to help you with your choice, I can't stress this enough, the PSP GO is a NO NO. It's not a bad concept on paper, but its execution on to the market with its limited capabilities make it unnecessary in my eyes.

The PSP 2000/3000 are great handhelds with which I have had numerous great expericens on. Like 4 player Monster Hunter freedom Unite all night.

Oh the Memories!

Since I have a go, personally I enjoy it enough. Typical response from a critic is something along the lines of. Psp is a jack of all trades. Does good in all, excels in next to nothing. Ds is almost strictly games which is great. Its what a handheld should be. Gaming on the go.

But say you want a movie, music, even dare I say pics for your viewing pleasure..Couldnt possibly be more of a suck up there, I know, Its simply fantastic. Take it from me buddy, I hated the first psp. Worst gaming purchase for me personally next to the gamecube( Let the flaming being for my opinion.) Bought the go and love it. No hassle of game luggage or anything except maybe the charger in a small package. Its sleek and has enough space to last you a while plus an extra external memory chip. Oh baby. Best handheld purchase Ive made and Ive owned nearly all of them at some point.

If you are even thinking about it go...GO*. Best big hits like gow3, portable ops, megaman M.H.X, motorstorm, kz..Anything. You have my recommendation. Its up to you. Think long before you make a decision though. Get the original: Good deal with hassle and possibility of it dying out sooner than later. Get a go. Pricey, risky to your preference taste, but its a sweet nectar that I aint had from a handheld in a while.

I got mine a few days ago, every time I look deep into it's library I keep on finding good new games, so I'm glad I got it.

I have both but just never got into the PSP I rarely play it. and even though there are a couple games I want to get that are out for it I never end up buying them. Right now my collection stands at 6 psp games and 65 DS games.

if the games appeal t you then get one. personally it wasnt for me. outside of loco roco (which is awsome)...there wasnt alot that appealed to me that i wouldnt prefer to play on a console. when i had it the two games that i realy enjoyed on it were loco roco and dungeon siege (strangely addictive game). but if the games look like they will appeal to you then go for it. its not a terrible system by any means.

If you think you're a big boy and that you'll look kiddy with a DS, then get a PSP. If you actually want the system with better games, then get a DS. I was bored to death of Killzone very fast, and I found bad controls to seriously hamper MGS:PO. I loved Crisis Core and Chains of Olympus, but they don't even touch the Zeldas, the Advance Wars titles, the Castlevanias, the Pokemon games are sitll great RPGs, as is TWEWY, and FFIV and FFIII. But you seem to be worried about looking kiddy, so the PSP might be best for you.

lol@ people using Castlevania as a selling point for the DS when the PSP is able to play Castlevania Symphony of the Night. That game alone smokes any Castlevanyia game the DS has to offer.

Of course if we go that route and count PSX classics then by throwing FFVII,FFVIII,FF T, MGS, Blood Omen, Silent Hill, etc etc etc then it just pretty much roflstomps anything the DS has to offer in terms of score and popularity. Only kiddie games like Pokemon and Mario can go toe to toe in popularity with heavy hitters like Final Fantasy, thus just playing right into the DS stereotype.

Of course the DS Defense Force will just counter with "bu but the ports!!11!". So it is all a matter of opinion.

Since this is a direct response to my post, I will admit that if you're a younger gamer and missed great PS games, then a PSP will be much better for you. Especially when many of you are around 12-16 years old and think you're too much of a big boy to play DS games. If you want new titles, stick with the DS.

I thought the DS Castlevania games were close to Symphony of the Night.
