The PSP is as good a handheld platform as the DS, and offers many things the DS doesn't. If you are in the market for a handheld multi-media device that plays many games that you are interested in, then it is definitely the platform for you. If you are interested in the games it offers, then why not buy it? Why are you taking other people's opinions seriously? It should be up to what YOU want.

Since this is a direct response to my post, I will admit that if you're a younger gamer and missed great PS games, then a PSP will be much better for you. Especially when many of you are around 12-16 years old and think you're too much of a big boy to play DS games. If you want new titles, stick with the DS.GamerForca

Not sure who you are talking to but I am not around the 12-16 year old mark, I grew up with many of those games I mentioned and even now would prefer playing them over what the DS has to offer. Many of the "new" games the DS flaunts still do not hold a candle to those classics, the "but its a port!" is the only argument the DS crew has because if you put the games on one one it would get destroyed by those monster classics.

Of course I did not even go into the original PSP games the system has to offer, the Classic PS One games would be enough for many considering Sony appears to finally be getting on its game and updating the Store.

The kiddie game thing may seem like a cop out but it is a valid issue for many. Has not much to do with appearnce as much as some of us do not enjoy playing Pokemon and Kirby in our spare time, to each his own.

I thought the DS Castlevania games were close to Symphony of the Night.

LegatoSkyheart

Which one in particular? I have played every Castlevania there is on every gameboy system and so far in my opinion I have not found one that comes close to dethroning SotN. I am pretty sure if we did a poll as well SotN would be the easy victor out of all the side scrolling Castlevania games, maybe even all of them. That game has aged remarkably well.

Dawn of Sorrow had a much better gameplay system, and was actually challenging. Not that I disagree that SOTN is easily the best 2D game in the series, mind you. Dawn of Sorrow has a whiny *****, while SOTN has Alucard, Richter and Maria... all fighting the most diabolical Dracula in the series... and the most badass one to boot.

My favourite Castlevania is Curse of Darkness, but SOTN is easily the best in the series... and yes, the PSP having two available versions of the game over the DS's none, is definitely a selling point for a CV fan. Though, not playing Dawn of Sorrow and Order of Ecclesia is equally a bad thing.

I recommend not even bothering since you were able to wait this long, but if you must dive you will probably want something bigger than 2GB.

Since I have a go, personally I enjoy it enough. Typical response from a critic is something along the lines of. Psp is a jack of all trades. Does good in all, excels in next to nothing. Ds is almost strictly games which is great. Its what a handheld should be. Gaming on the go.

But say you want a movie, music, even dare I say pics for your viewing pleasure..Couldnt possibly be more of a suck up there, I know, Its simply fantastic. Take it from me buddy, I hated the first psp. Worst gaming purchase for me personally next to the gamecube( Let the flaming being for my opinion.) Bought the go and love it. No hassle of game luggage or anything except maybe the charger in a small package. Its sleek and has enough space to last you a while plus an extra external memory chip. Oh baby. Best handheld purchase Ive made and Ive owned nearly all of them at some point.

If you are even thinking about it go...GO*. Best big hits like gow3, portable ops, megaman M.H.X, motorstorm, kz..Anything. You have my recommendation. Its up to you. Think long before you make a decision though. Get the original: Good deal with hassle and possibility of it dying out sooner than later. Get a go. Pricey, risky to your preference taste, but its a sweet nectar that I aint had from a handheld in a while.

I agree. I have both a DS and PSPgo so I can use both. I somewhat use my PSP more, though I need to get some anime on it. Lol.

i dont see where people get this idea the psp has no games, especially since its a portable. i only own like ten games for it, and theyre either infinitely replayable, or are almost impossibly awesome. for the amount of time i spend playing my psp, it has more than enough games.

It's not that the PSP is bad, it's just that the DS is much better as well as cheaper.

I have owned an original PSP when it was released, and had fun with it. Unfortunately, the sheer size of the thing threw me off. I hated how big it was, and it's size actually ended up being the reason my original PSP broke on me (fell out of my pocket and got ruined...because a handheld couldn't fit in my coat pocket...).

Three days ago, I purchased a Go, and I love it. I don't understand the hate behind the thing. I can understand why current PSP owners wouldn't want it, but if you don't have UMD's, it's awesome (I ended giving mine to my brother-in-law, since I was PSP-less). All Sony has to do is keep releasing PSP games (new and old) on PSN, like they have been consistently, and it will be on par with the PSP-3000 over time. I love the size, the new control layout, and it just looks all around bad-ass.

Well i dont like JRPGs or any RPGS for that matter.. the DS has A LOT of games but only very few if any appeal to me.. everytime i think of the PSP i can instantly think of 4 games ATLEAST i want to play.. GOW chains, Resistance, LBP and Killzone liberation among others.. the PSP just seems to have so many quality games. the DS games just seem so.. i dont know, more on the girly or JRPG side.. im not trying to sound macho or cool, i just cant help but notice everytime i go to best buy in the video game section i see a lot of DS games with pink and purple on the cover or cartoony covers and that just doesnt appeal to me whatsoever.

That's just because you're a mature hardcore gamer, the style of the game represents the quality of gameplay right?

Im not saying it effects the quality thats why i said they dont appeal to me.. So in other words if im a typical hardcore PS3/360 gamer that likes action and shooters i should go with the PSP?

And I'm saying it doesn't matter the artstyle doesn't appeal to you or not, it doesn't effect the gameplay and that is why you play games. Anyways, I can't say I have looked too much into the PSPs action library but I would assume it would be larger the DS.

Indeed. PSPgo is quite sweet for a handheld, though I need more money to buy some anime and some games, lol... maybe a movie as well.

the thing with the psp is that it doesn't have constant great games coming out. the psp often has gaps in releases...like now, there's nothing to play on my psp at the moment...

Yea i dont get all the hate on gaming forums and on here.. I mean the PSP has some ace games, its a excellent system from what i know and yet people make fun of it.. I was maybe considering the DS but i honestly dont see what people see in that system, i was researching games on both platforms and the DS just doent seem to have near the quality games the PSP has, i dont get why it sells so much.

Does someone REALLY have to make a list for you?

I enjoy mine quite a bit. More than what others would lead you to believe. Then again, most of the games I find fun, you'll have to import. But man are they worth it.

Why do these threads always turn into PSP vs. DS? Anyway, the PSP is worth it, but there aren't THAT many incredible games. That said, it's awesome, but do some research before shelling out for software.

QFT. Infact, both my handhelds (DS and PSP) are just sitting here with no form of good playable games anymore. Last game i played on DS was Spirit tracks which was good, last game i played on PSP was Motorstorm, which was also good. Just remember, if you own a PSP/DS, it doesnt have a long lasting appeal.

I used to think it was a bad handheld, but I've come to realise that its main problem is it isn't playing to as wide an audience as the DS. If you're the sort of person who needs the spectacle of action games while on the go, then you would probably love it. Personally, the DS just appeals to me more because it offers something completely different to home consoles.

PSP was actually the first thing I bought this generation.

Unfortunately, for me it was my worst purchase I ever made. I don't know if it's improved much in 2-3 years but most of the games besides MGS : PO were ports. GoW was good too but I found that most of the games that I liked were Japanese games not the mainstream ones.

It's a good multimedia systems though so if you want to listen to music or watch videos, you should get it.

Personally I just like the DS MUCH more. I still can't stop laughing at people who use the "kiddy" thing

It's not a bad console, people just say that the DS has a better library.

The PSP is a good console, go for it, just make sure you don't get the PSP GO.

I love my psp but a majority of it's "good" games are watered down action ports. There's plenty of genre's it's very lacking in terms of the library so unless you like the portable versions of these games (GOW, Killzone, ect) there's not much diversity in the library.

Personally I bought my psp as a media device for movies and manga so the few games I like on it are a bonus.
