From its description, it seems so. Not that it bothers me, a lot of so-called "dumbed down games" this gen have been awesome. (Fallout 3, BioShock, Oblivion, RE4, and even ME2)

Haven't played it, but from what I've heard it is dumbed down (although that is not to say it's a bad game).

Same here, for the gameplay videos i saw on youtube and the reviews i ve read and watched, it seems like it was dumbed down to satisfy the xbox's crow. Unlike MGS4, hideo added the overthe shoulder view ala gears and other elements to make it more actiony but leave the steatlh part intact, sp conviction is just a another action game who forgot its roots

Here's how i see it. Some of the stealth aspects have been removed, which is a shame, but then at the same time i can see how they needed to change things as they cant just keep making the same game again and again. That being said, a lot of the changes that they've chosen to make aren't what i would have gone with. They need to get rid of the bucket of blood which flies out of heads when you shoot them. It's crass. They need to allow you more stealth options other than just turning off lights. Overall i think their original idea of making it an assassin's creed style game with an open world where you choose to infiltrate your objectives however you like would have been for the better. Right now, they've effectively made a third person shooter which people can play as a stealth game if they can be bothered to, but it's honestly hard to do that sometimes when you know you have an instant-win button on the right bumper.

Mass Effect 2 was an improvement over Mass Effect because of the stripped elements. Combat wise, FFXIII was the best of the series because of the removal of turn based combat as well as no random battles, restoring health after combat, & not having to run from the last save after being defeated. I'm no masochist. I haven't played SC:C, & probably won't for awhile, if at all, but it seems to be getting praise from credible sources. As a matter of fact, most the hate seems to be coming from the cows. I'm amazed how many own 360s.

Compared to Chaos Theory it is, but when compared to first two? It's less stealthy, but at the same time it's not anywhere near as linear as they were

95% of the kills I made throughout the campaign were stealth kills. However by the ideology in this thread that just can't be because stealth is nearly non existent in Splinter Cell Conviction.

well saying they are changing for the worse is all opinion, but there is no doubt that ubisoft has really been changing their ip's this gen. ghost recon, prince of persia, rainbow six have seen radical changes. whether or not it has been changed to be more accessible is up to debate, but they are still hella fun

It's kind of funny that this is nearly word for word the complaint that's been leveled against Splinter Cell and MGS by Thief fans.Makari

Sorry, you can't lump something like Chaos Theory in with MGS. It's in a entirely different league altogether.

If you want to come back and say, "yeah, well, Thief is to SC as SC is to *insert game here*", yeah that's fine, but don't just toss something like MGS in with SC and make believe that the gap between Thief and Splinter Cell, and Thief and MGS, is the same distance. It isn't.

Chaos Theory stands on its own as one of the best stealth games ever made.

If you actually played the game, you have to use stealth in it. It is not a straight up action game. The only reason the videos look action-y is because that is more appealing to the eye. What would you rather see, a guy sitting in a corner for 5 minutes, or fast paced stealth that shows off what you can do in the game? I have been a long time fan of the series and Chaos Theory is my second favorite game of all time, but I welcome this new game because it is fun.

More or less it seems like Splinter Cell is being Hollywoodized, sacrificing stealth combat in the name of Hollywood. The same thing is happening with Rainbow Six. Instead of a brutal simulation of a mission where a single shot can be the difference between life and death, Rainbow Six: Vegas goes for the Hollywood feel rather than the grounded realism.

Let me guess; OP hasn't even played it? The game is pretty difficult, even on normal. Its definitely not for noobs. Best in the series.

Because it took a new direction -- and improved upon the previous game, that means it was dumb-downed? High AA raitings on Metacritic and Gamerankings say to me that Ubisoft did a fantastic job with Conviction.

And a pale imitation of a stealth game compared to Thief's fairly pure interpretation. All I pointed out is that the same complaint was tossed at those two series - compared to Thief, it's equally true for those two series too.
