Is Square Enix dropping Xbox?

They announced FFXV and KH3 simultaneously on Xbox during e3 but that was before PS4 took over the world. I mean since then, what? Final Fantasy Type-0? That sold horribly on the Xbone and we've gotten nothing since.

Here are the games since then that are or will be on PS4 but not Xbox One. These are mainly Japanese titles but many are important especially the FFs which is by far SE's most important franchise.

• Dragon Quest Heroes
• Dragon Quest Heroes 2
• FFXIV
• FFXII HD (not confirmed, leaked???)

How does this make you feel as an Xbox owner? Personally, I foreseen this future years ago when I acknowledged that the Xbox is a platform for mostly FPS addicts. It doesn't bother me much since I do own a PS4 and games won't be held back by the weaker console.

FF VII remake is gonna be on PC but I have a strong feeling it will be on Xbox later on.

FF XII is not confirmed

Dissida is not confirmed to appear on any home console as of now

Xbox One has also been an abysmal failure in Japan which is where JRPG's are traditionally strong in. I wouldn't say it's been abandoned by Square but JRPG's fans will miss out if they choose the Xbox One over the PS4.

I'll be getting a PS4 soon enough so it doesn't bother me much.

But even if I wasn't, it still wouldn't bother me, because:

A. Couldn't care less about the bulk of those titles (but man I'd love to play FFX again)
B. Square-Enix is run by a bunch of fools. The less I see their logo the better.

And are you really gonna use the FF7 PC port as firepower? Camaaaaaaaaaaaaaan

XBox is a brand that peaked last-gen.

They're doing what every publisher bar EA is doing.

I mean you can call it that but honestly other than hardcore fans of those series or weaboos who's buying those games here in the US and the EU? If the Xbox One sold better in Japan you might see a Japanese release for the game in America but overall there isn't really much of a demand from most people I suppose.

Don't play any of those games. I played dragon quest back in the day on ps2, enjoyed it but also had a lot of features i wish were implemented which i later found in morr westerns rpgs.

Truth is, it never really peaked.

360 had some luck in America last gen but in the rest of the world nobody gives a fck about Xbox at all.

Yeah I noticed that the Xbone demographic was going to follow fairly similar to the 360 last year, when Sunset Overdrive came out with good reviews (and its a damn good game) but had little attention and sold horribly. You could get that game for 30 bucks brand new like 6 months after its release. Bet it would have sold a lot better on Playstation; most of my hardcore Xbox friends either didnt know it came out or didnt care because all they are interested in are FPS type games.

I really hope Scalebound, Quantum Break and Sea of Thieves do better than SSO. They all look great and itd be a shame if they didnt. I like how Microsoft is caring about diversity and first party now this gen more than ever- it'd be a shame for it to go to waste and for them to stop if none of them games sell well.

I own both consoles, but after seeing that list...man does square put out a bunch of trash. I'd be more disappointed if i was a PS4 only owner because the only good game square is making (RoTR) won't be on PS4 for an extra year or so

Yes, to switch their attention to PS4, and also PC apparently, if E3 and all the ports are anything to go by. Not very surprising honestly.

Almost all of those games are trash even by weeaboo standards.

It seems Square is somewhat walking away from XB1 as far as Japanese development. None of those are HUGE games though in the west - and I'm sure with their western development they will keep everything else as multiplat (Hitman, Deux Ex, Just Cause, etc). Also it seems Final Fantaxy XV and Kingdom Hearts 3 are still safely as mutiplat, so it's just the 2nd tier or more niche Japanese games that are eschewing XB1 release so far. Some fairly big games in there, but nothing HUGE.

I used to love StarOcean though. Whether that is a big score for PS4 really depends on how it turns out. Square was so bad last gen, it's hard to really know until the game is actually delivered.

The xbone was lucky enough to get FF15 and Kingdom Hearts but they're going to sell like shit.

Cause those are games that sell great in Japan, Europe and the U.S. so that's why they got those games. Games like Star Ocean, Nier or Dragon Quest don't really top the sales in the U.S. so why bother making those games for the Xbox when most of their fanbase is in the U.S. Asian markets don't buy Xbox so JRPG's make's no sense on the Xbox right now. It may never make sense on that console but Square isn't abandoning Xbox, look at Tomb Raider, FF15 or KH3. They just picking and choosing what games to release on the Xbox.

The reason FF15 and Kingdom Hearts 3 are coming out for the Xbone as well is probably because they are projects that started with the previous CEO of the company, Yochi Wada. The new CEO does not seem to have the intention to release their games on the Xbone.

I think S-E believes that their titles published on Xbox would gift MS a windfall (plus irritate their relationship with Sony) and expect something in return. MS, meanwhile, understands that multiplats offer them very little in either NA or Japan when the games are also published on PS4 or PC anyway, so it's understandable why they're not jumping at the opportunity to court S-E. I think S-E should certainly be looking to expand the audience of some of those franchises - Kingdom Hearts, in particular - but what sort of return can they really expect from their time investment by porting to Xbox? Personally, I think expanding to Steam would provide a better ROI but would concede some of their bargaining position. The value of their franchises to Microsoft are hurt across the board if they expand to other platforms first.

And irrespective of the above, I just don't think MS is on good terms with any of the big Japanese publishers. Their audiences are considerable opposites.

All that going to PlayStation and not Xbox and to think people blow a gasket not knowing if Rise of the Tomb Raider was going to PlayStation or not, talk about entitled.

But, I'm pretty sure FFVII is a first on PlayStation game. Kind of surprised they'd even bother after passing up Xbox with all the rest.

Kingdom Hearts 3 will be big on Xbox One i think. Just like Lego Jurassic World did great on Xbox.

They very well could be. The Xbox One is still behind the PS4 in terms of sales and the only market the Xbox One is doing well in is North America which is historically not the greatest for Square.

It seems they are starting to focus on the PS4 and the PC. The PC keeps their games bringing in income much longer than any other platform so they may be working on getting a good PC version of all of their games for a continued source of revenue. It's also easier to port a PC version of a game to any other platform. If they want to make an Android or iOS version of a game, it's smart to use the PC version as a base.

None of these games really interest me. I'm very choosy when it comes to RPG games because they are so demanding time-wise, and I just recently finished Witcher 3 after 200 hours of playtime, so I'm kind of taking a break now from RPGs because when Fallout 4 comes out, I expect to be knee deep in it for months, and I still need to finish Dragon Age I.

I always keep an open mind though and there are a few games in there I don't know much about, so when they are released I'll look into them to see if they are something I really want, but these days I mostly prefer Wrpgs anyways.

Did MS and SE have a falling out that I don't know about? I thought it was really weird that SE announced when RotTR would be available on PC and PS4. Announcements like that generally happen after the game launches on the platform that has the timed exclusivity to drive sales for it. Now anybody who was wondering if it would be coming to the PS4/PC, knows it will be and has the option to wait either a month or two or a year for what we can assume will be a superior version to what the X1 is getting. Before that announcement, people could only assume it was coming to PC/PS4. Now before the game even releases, we know we can wait if we want to get it on the PC/PS4 and the PC only has to wait until 1st quarter 2016.

Now SE is announcing all these games like DQXI, Star Ocean, and Neir 2 that don't seem like they will be appearing on the X1 at all.

I see people saying "Weeaboo crap", but I say having the option to play these games is better than not having the option to play them and I'm personally happy I do have the option because I enjoy games that give insight to other cultures and aren't just the typical shooter or hack/slash western rpg. I'm not saying I don't enjoy those genres, because I do, but I like these types of games just as much. These are the games I grew up with in the 80s and 90s.

Because Sony has had to lay off so many people, sell massive loads of owned real estate and shuttered 2 divisions now so they could give loads of money to publishers=/= dropping of support.

Yeah I mean they have Rise of the Tome Raider, Just Cause 3 and Deus Ex all hitting Xbox within the next 6 month, but yeah I guess you're right they really are ditching it
