Is Square Enix dropping Xbox?

It made sense as to why Square supported 360 last gen - cheaper to develop and bigger install base. That changed this gen though. The biggest surprise is that we're getting a lot more IPs from Square now.

All those games listed are nothing but ports and remakes, hence the nickname for the PS4 is the Portsation 4

The FFVII Remake will be on PC and Xbox One, and their biggest games like FF15 and KH3 will be multiplat, other than that. This list perfectly sums up the PS4, quantity over quality, they may have nothing good, but they have so much that it gives PS4 gamers a false sense of security and they can claim their joke of a console has games. The sad truth is only PS4 gamers are dumb enough to fall for something like this.

Xbox owners could care less they have Halo and Gears. Microsoft has proved they don't need anything else or they'd make it.

I don't need to play them to think that the games look/sound/have a precedent for being mediocre. If they end up being good, then I might check them out, but I won't hold my breath for the likes of Kingdom Hearts and Star Ocean being any good.

As a developer, you tend to see more games going to Sony's systems. As a publisher, not so much.

Don't forget that Deus Ex: Fight for Mankind that's also a multiplat for the Xbox One ;)

I agree, I'm looking forward to FF15 and I've heard great things about 14, I just can't do a subscription again after all that ArenaNet gave me. SE do publish some good games though.

I got to endgame content and kinda got bored.. Havent gotten into Heavensward yet.

Why would the support a system with no world wide appeal. XBOX ONE is going to have some rough times ahead. Where is the cloud support that was supposed to help the machine.

You say that like that isn't the case this gen? Microsoft had no business getting their assess kicked this gen, but they went overkill, they took at as a challenge to announce a product that was more offensive than what Sony could put out.

The only thing sony provided is another one of their machines except this time it's more in line to be dev friendly otherwise

-The actual power of their machine - only looks impressive in the context of the X1 is weak, reality is both are the weakest consoles in relation to the hardware that is out upon release as both machines were built to be cheap (relatively speaking)

Their marketing is okay, they've understood the indie scene better, but otherwise their best asset hasn't been themselves as much as Nintendo and Microsoft just beating themselves.

On topic: Nah. SE is far bigger than their traditional franchises, and we see many of those on or heading to the 1 (lest we forget TR2...). SE is in it for money. The Bone's weak performance outside of NA means a number of titles will skip it, but they'll happily port games where they think it's profitable.

Bzzzt. Wrong again, Salty! Having a marketing tie in =/= relying. For example, all the games ITT you pretend you don't want! One of the strengths of the PS platform has been a diversity of genres, made easy this gen with ~ 2x as many games for the system than the competition...

Of course dude, there's a ton of similarities between last and this gen. I'd say it even more absurd that MS is getting raw dogged given they had a whole fucking generation to witness Sony's arrogance, granted they turned shit around about halfway through the gen but there was definitely enough time for them to realize this isn't the direction we should take.

Then there's the whole theory of Don Mattrick just being a Sony plant, which is quite funny in itself but it really makes you wonder how the hell they got the O.K on such terrible decision making.

I mean the theory, no one would ruin their career like that. If the Xbox One sold buckets, he's a made man. He either ends up with a higher end job at Microsoft, or he takes that success and goes somewhere else for even more money.

They misread the success of the kinect for the 360, because all things considered it clearly was a success. But they didn't take into account that devs don't have any real ideas for Kinect (the people who will make good games for it, were going to be indie devs willing to go all in on that interface and make something unique, and not franchise made for gamepad but now for kinect). My question is anyone with in the vacinity of having a clue knows that TV is on the down swing because of things like amazon, netflix, hulu, etc, and part of it is no short part because of video game machines. The 360 being the netflix box was as much a product of TV's downswing as anything, so somehow, some way, there was a Microsoft person that said, lets bet the farm on television?

On people needing a cable thing? They should have had their own netflix type service, that should have been the bet if they were going all in on this tv thing. Not we're going to be your universal remote or whatever.

You know most people watch Netflix on their TV.....TV isn't on the downside. What MS misread was the market. People who buy their consoles are gamers. I don't think they misread Kinect either. They know the sales stats on those games from the 360 and how many devs used it. They wanted to be an entertainment medium for the living room. Which is not their strong suit. Again....it's a gaming console. First and foremost that is what sells. Sure people got used to extras on consoles but that is exactly what it is...extra. Not the primary focus.

Now when MS backed down from some of their polices and geared toward games again the console picked up sales.

Also smart TVs and peripherals exist making Netflix etc available without the need for consoles. But TV is NOT on the downside.

I don't find any of the games listed interesting (not my genre). Not bothered at all that these games won't show up on Xbox One. Honestly I don't think I've ever owned anything published by square Enix in my lifetime.

Most the games listed are smaller franchises made primarily for Japanese markets or people into stuff targeted at Japanese markets. FFXIV hasn't been ruled out for the Xbox, it is only not on the Xbox because Microsoft won't approve of cross-paltform play with the PS3 and PS4. SE wants all PC and console players playing together. The only case I can see them dropping "XBOX" is with the FFVII port and the Dragon Quest games, but there is no reasons those could not come to xbox in the future. SE is still heavily supported the Xbox with many western games, KH3, and FFXV.

Man I wish Final Fantasy X remaster would come to Xbone, I'd buy that in a heartbeat
