Is Street fighter V arcade edition best fighting game this gen?

Hello friends,

So when this game was released in 2016. it was released in terrible state. then story mode released which suck. 2 years later arcade edition released and i gave it try once again and i was surprised I end up liking it much since i hate fighting games mostly. and theres too many fighting games released this gen from every major franchise. MK, tekken, KOF etc.

By playing SFV arcade version. I feel like i gone back to my childhood SFII days when I used to play it on genesis. yeah there was arcade version but i hated going to arcade so played it on home console.

I played MK. MK9 story structure is great but too bad gameplay suck. MKX gameplay again suck. I tried tekken 7 and KOF14 too and didnot like any of them as none of them have crisp gameplay of street fighter

So this is the game that i think it is best fighting game released this gen. i used to hate this game. now not anymore.

Tekken 7 is much better than SFV. SFV is fun but its systems are garbage. Just look how lame Ibuki plays in 5 compared to 3 and 4.

This gen Tekken 7, Guilty Gear Rev 2, Unist are all better. Frankly so is KoF14.

SFVs a much better game now than it was in seasons 1-3, G is lit, but from a depth n satisfying neutral standpoint plenty of games offer more than SFV.

I played tekken 7 and KOF14. and imo they both just suck.

I love SFV just played it last night.

Possibly but I haven’t played it yet myself. From what I’ve seen on it though it definitely has improved from when it first launched. Tekken 7 is an excellent game as well. Blazblue: Chrono Phantasma Extend, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Soul Calibur VI are other great games. There’s been a lot of good stuff come out this gen for the fighting game genre which is great to see.

KOF14 is was pretty good from what I played, dead though, like practically every SNK game and most likely Samurai Spirits, need crossplay or even a straight up free2play model alongside traditional retail.

I didn't care for it from what I played. I liked KOF14 a lot more.

Street fighter has not been on top of the fighting world for a while. TBH all they do is rehash same old shit. Tekken 7 is the best fighter easy.

@jg4xchamp: Pretty much what I would say, although Tekken 7 has major problems that have been highlighted by the results of EVO Japan yesterday. Leroy is really a culmination of all of the problems of Tekken 7 since release, just amplified and combined into a single character. I still enjoy the game and it is definitely one of the best this gen, but compared to other Tekkens like 5DR, it's weaker.

So first casual4ever makes a thread saying that fighters haven't evolved and used SF as his example and now he says SFV is the best fighting game this gen.

This is clearly bait. Do you want to have a discussion or just troll? KoFs systems are far more complex and "hardcore" than SFVs. SFV was literally designed for casual players and newcomers to fighting games.

How is Samurai Showdown? This was my shit but there hasn't been a good one since V Special. SNK used to have some great titles such as Garou and Samurai Showdown.

I've played SFV, Tekken 7, Killer Instinct, Dragon Ball FighterZ and Smash Bros. Ultimate.

All games besides Smash were dissapointing in their own ways.

Edit: Actually, Smash was dissapointing too thanks to Nintendo not giving a shit about fixing their online.

I wonder if Mortal Kombat 11 is good. 9 was great. X sucked.

KoF14 is generally more demanding on execution than SFV (depends on the characters in question), but systems wise it's a wash. Both games are easier to play than their predecessors though.

No argument to your point, Ghosts couldn't land an uppercut in MK1. Probably thinks fatalities add depth.

On topic, my favorite FG this gen was definitely SFV.

Was a combination of me liking the gameplay (SFV Sim is amazeballs fun), and there being a consistent healthy userbase to play against online.

Of course not saying that makes it the best, but having a healthy online community goes a long way in this genre.

Had Guilty Gear, or KoF14 been more active, my opinion would most definitely be different. At least in the case of Guilty Gear, game is fantastic, would be my legit vote for "the best".

Tekken 7 is outstanding of course. Has a healthy online community too. I just don't get into 3d FGs the same way, plus at the time, didn't really have friends down to play it (Damn you Champ for going full on FG addict after I stop!).

So I only played about 80 hrs, which of course isn't even scratching the surface in this genre.

Anyways. In all honesty, don't think any of us here on SW are qualified to give an objective answer. We have tons of FGs this gen that are good/great in their own way. Then we have shit like Mortal Kombat. Roll with what you like, it's a great time for fans of the genre.

Fatalities has been useless because you can only perform fatalities when announcer shout "finish him" and not in between a match.

Ye, u rite. Mid match fatalities would be legit, could even serve as a save point.

Funny thing is, those Xray moves in nu MK are basically in-match fatalities. Still a horribly implemented time wasting mechanic tho.

Are they even used in competitive play? Haven't kept up with competitive MK since UMK3 lol.

When i was kid. playing MK 1 and 2 on genesis. announcer shout "finish him" and then either you leave opponet or doing your huge effort just to see character perform some violent animation. i was like whats the benefit of this? so instead every time announced shout "finish him" I always performed "Get over here" move.

I tried watching competitive MK11, was kinda like watching paint dry.

Especially Erron Black, it's like the purposefully designed the most humanly imaginable boring gameplay they could.

The horrible animation does that game zero favors for spectators. But even ignoring that surface level shit, the zoning looks broken and a proper neutral seems non-existent. Like, what are footsies? Seems the defining moments are "Oh shit, he landed another dial-a-combo!".

I played and enjoyed MK11, but i'm probably not a good judge as I liked playing around in the krypt just as much as the actual fighting lol.

@i_p_daily: I like MKX and MK11 but mostly for the over the top brutality and things like the krypt, gameplay wise games like Guilty Gear and SFV wipe the floor with it.

That was a really fun game, the and PC package (when it appeared on Steam at least) was a fantastic deal.

The auto-combo they patched in was too much though imo. It practically reduced one of the games unique features down to a monotonous QTE.

The krypt is godly and is a nice distraction when the main game gets boring and fighters tend to get boring quickly for me as I can't tolerate them the way I did back in the day.

In a couple of days I fought and used every character in the game (except dlc characters) and the online got boring as people tend to use characters with projectiles and sit on the other side of the screen.

I can honestly say that the Dreamcast/ OG Xbox was the last consoles where I actually enjoyed fighting games with the likes of VF & SC which were friggin awesome.

It was a great way to **** up a great game. Love the game, but can't play anymore as combo assist disgusts me.. Only way for me to play it now would be with friends, and no one but me has the game, so **** it.

Street Fight V is a great game, unless you listen to the haters.
