Is Sunset Overdrive a ripoff of Infamous?

I'll settle with you on that.

I say lemmings, but anyone who pulls the double standard thing when hyping and criticizing games ticks me off. If a game looks good or bad for something, the platform shouldn't matter, I really hate when fanboys pull that card.

I try to be objective when it comes to my opinion of games at the very least. I don't like MS as a game company but I am not going to act like a game they make is crap because of that opinion, that's a really stupid way to judge things but some people can not separate the two opinions.

I'd say heavy jet set radio, heavy Infamous, with crackdown fetching plus ratchet n clank weapons, using conker crude adult humor.

Exactly. In that trailer, they show some character grinding on rails (from Infamous) and then he does 3 super power moves that are pulled straight from Infamous. Yet people are like oh yeah I see ZERO resemblance.

It depends. If it turns out to be repetitive, boring, bland, and devoid of fun; then yes it will be similar to Infamous SS.

People have to stop saying "lems believe this..." when they've only heard one stupid lem say that. Nobody gives a dam about a day night cycle, I didn't like infamous because it was boring and stale and lifeless, not because the time of day wouldn't change.

Also, Sunset Overdrive uses the night in a different way. It's the only time you can construct amps so night-time is usually saved for the night defence missions in single player and in co-op. It's a good thing that SSOD keeps it day time during regular gameplay, it's best to show off those popping colors and visuals.

I played Infamous on my PS4 and defined it as "meh". I saw Sunset and was incredibly excited. The games are crazy different, you can dislike Infamous while hyping Sunset.

I played Sunset Overdrive, although just looking at it should tell the average 2 year old it's not the same game.

Just saw some footage of the game (I've been ignoring it for quite the while!), and I definitely can understand the Infamous vibes. Seems very similar. Overall, the game looked really boring though--the cities are incredibly lifeless, the enemies that are there may as well not be for how little of a challenge they actually present, and the whole skateboarding around shtick will lose its appeal very quickly.

Seems like the game is getting by mainly due to its art style--hilarious how the same people that bitch about how annoying it is to focus on graphics! graphics! graphics! fall head over heels over games with mediocre gameplay with interesting art styles (ie Ni No Kuni, Child of Light, and now this).

The only similarities I see between Sunset Overdrive and InFamous are that there is a male main character, and he sometimes grinds on rails.

If anything it seems more like homage to Ratchet and Clank. Grinding, tons of silly weapons, and the game actually looks fun to play.

I'll be honest, I actually thought this game was Microsoft's answer to Infamous. The similarities are obvious.

I don't see the similarities. Yes, they are both sandbox type games, but your character in Sunset isn't some nuclear powered freak. Sunset Overdrive is Ratchet and Clank meets Jet Set Radio and that is it. I love all of the cows trying to claim some sort of ownage based on their perception that Sunset somehow copied their precious barely above average open world action title. So Uncharted was fresh and new?? Killzone broke new ground?? Cows just need to face the facts. Xbox One has and is getting better games now and in the foreseeable future!

Mechanics look quite different other than the way the player kinda is a magnet to ledges and rails in both. Also they both look trash

Even if I were to say yes, regardless it was a pretty damn fun game, far exceeded my expectations. Lots of action, the environment traversing mechanics worked excellently, the game is chock-full of humor. I'd love to see another. I don't want to oversell it because I don't want anybody willing to try it that hasn't yet to be disappointed by it. But, it's a game I think anybody with an Xbox One should at least try out. Maybe people who've held off this long over price should at least give it a shot when the price drops.

I own both games, they are radically different games and at no point playing either one did I feel that one was like the other. The only thing that seems even remotely similar is the bouncing on cars mechanic, but even that gets watered down as a point of comparison as you can bounce on half of everything in Sunset.

If anything, Sunset overdrive could be considered Dead Rising meets Jet Set Radio, Infamous is really a non-factor.

I've played Sunset and infamous first light (cause it was free on PSN+ in jan) and the 2 are nothing alike. Sunset is most closely like jet set radio future but as a TPS so like ratchet and clank mixed with JSRF. Infamous is more like prototype

Not really. They have things in common, like they are both sandbox and the means of transportation are similar, but in SO, if you try walking around, you basically get swarmed and killed pretty quick, in infamous, you can walk or run through the whole game if you wanted. The themes are completely different and SO is a lot more lighthearted and makes fun of itself on many occasions. SO is a great game to run through, just wish the online was a bit better.

Sunset overdrive was a better game than infamous second son. It was liner and just more entertaining. I own both and having infamous ss with only a 4 hour campaign really soured the game.

It's more of a combination between Total Overdose and Ratchet and Clank. Movement and style points is key. Combine that with the RAC-like guns/upgrading, and you have Sunset Overdrive.

I've played both game and I say NAY. Not even close. SSO is more like Jet set radio if anything. Where as Infamous is like Prototype sort of. Prototype was more of a melee sandbox game.
