I know a lot of you will just damage control and say it sucks. But just imagine for one second that there was a $200 PS3 SKU. Wouldn't you go nuts over it?

Of course a 4GB PS3 model is not possible because many games require installs. This is another way that Blu-ray is keeping the PS3 too expensive. Even now that the drive prices have gone way down, the fact that installs are required, translates to hard drives are required and this keeps costs up.

But on the 360 side, there is an amazing product. The 4GB slim is just a WOW type of deal. Think about it, do you remember when there was only a 20 GB 360 available and hardly anyone was complaining about space? And the price was $400 as well with no wifi.

I agree, back then the arcade was crap because you couldn't even save games and it even came with a wired controller which really was meh.

But now you can get the sexy new 360 slim with wireless 'N' wifi and it comes with a nice 4GB flash drive for only $200! WOW!!!!!

Of course the 250 GB version is better but if you're in a cash crunch, this is a great way to get in on the action.

I'd rather have a $2000 gaming PC or just spend another $10 and get an actual 360 than a gimped Arcade

I thought that the 360 required full game installs otherwise it implodes? I keed.

The 4 gb model at 200 dollars is not a good deal imo. It should have a standard hdd, even a small one. Another thread here outlined the problems with the 4 gb model and how the lack of a real internal hdd blocks some features on the Halo games, and who knows if there's any other games that are like that?

At 99 bucks I'd pick up a 360, but 200 bucks is just too much for a system that only runs single player games out of the box, has no hdd, and is comprised of poor quality hardware.

Additionally, being as so many games are multiplatform, I can already play most games that are the 360 on my ps3 and it does other things the 360 can't. So, for 200 bucks, I guess the Wii would be a better deal, at least it has a bigger library of games I can't already play.

The 4GB "Arcade" version is $200. It comes with: -No headset -An inability to play any Halo co-op -The ability to try to figure out what is "hard drive optimized" with vague terms -Frustration

:P Beat ya to the punch.

Seems like a bit of a deal breaker to me if certain game modes are locked out (I don't know how many games this is applicable for).

The only way a 360 is a good deal is if it's free and they pay you for all the extra expenses it requires to make it a real current gen console.

You guys are tripping. I just won a 4GB Slim, and it's an incredible piece of hardware for $200. Easily the best deal on the market.

What's with people acting like you need more than 4GB? Aside from optional game installs, 4GB is more than sufficient.

Its not the space that's a problem. Its that there are literally game features you can't use, because there is no HDD. Even if there is no logical reason you'd need an HDD.

and add 1 year of XBL Gold:

It has a 4GB HDD. What features are we talking about? FM3's extra content is the only exception I could think of, but even then that would fit.

We're talking about the "best deal around" though, it's definitely the Slim. Once you have a chance to hold one and use it, all previous 360's seem archaic. All that cutting edge tech for the price of a Wii. Crazy stuff.

I rather buy the $299 360 TBH, you really do need the HDD space, and I rather spend the extra $100 than buying some USB drives.

You can't play ODST or Halo 3 or Reach in co-op. In any form. Not even Firefight. You also can't download other people's maps, but can make as many of your own as your heart desires (something I still cannot figure out) You are literally denied from using these features. When you try to use them, the game tells you that you require a hard drive and locks the feature.

Just get a 16 GB flash drive and it will solve all of your space problems. But for most people, the 4GB version will be plenty.

I'd rather get a Wii and I haven't even used one. If you plan on actually using that space for DLC and games, it'll fill up extremely fast. Installs are out of the question as they tend to be over the less-than 4GBs of space that you are allotted. It's not a matter of whether you're an avid gamer or just play games occasionally; there's going to be a point where you'll run out of that space and won't be able to move stuff to a thumb drive. Would you then want to pay $130 for a 250GB HDD? If they make any smaller HDDs, they'll probably still cost over $100. MS wouldn't give you 4GBs of space if they thought that was all you needed.

I've had a 20GB H3 360 for 3yrs and the only reason I needed more than 4GB was to install FM3 and it's extra content because of a disc scratch. I see where you're coming from, but I still feel the Slim is the best deal for the money.

I remember when the 120 GB Elites were released and that was the only way to get a bigger than 20 GB hard drive unless you buy the 120 GB HD that cost I think $130 back then not sure.

I wanted a bigger hard drive because I buy a lot of tv shows and rent movies and download demos and trailers so I just wanted more space.

I went to ebay and found someone who was selling the 120 GB HD from his elite, made sure he had 100% feedback and bought it for $80 including shipping. Before that I called MS and asked for a transfer kit(they were giving them away for free back then) and I had it already before my new HD arrived.

When the 120 HD arrived I noticed it was in brand new perfect condition unused. I transfered everything from the 20 GB HD to the 120 GB HD. Very easy process.

I then sold the 20 GB HD on ebay for $50 - $5 for shipping and ebay fees. Then I sold the transfer kit for $20 minus $3 shipping and ebay fees.

Overall it turned out as a very inexpensive and pleasant upgrade experience. Most people on this forum try to paint this horrid picture of doom just to criticize a system they don't own.

I think the current 199 Wii configuration is the best, as it comes with two games and Wii Motion Plus. It also has built in Wireless, free (though rudimentary) online, free use of Netflix (for Netflix subscribers, of course), 100% backwards compatibility, built in storage, SD card support, choice of color, and additional features for Nintendo DS owners.

More and more games are re-releasing with GOTY editions. If you want to play Borderlands' or Fallout's DLC packs, you'll need nearly all or more than that 4GBs of space. It all depends on what you want to play. If you research all the games you want to play and find out that you won't be missing much, you'll probably be ok with an Arcade. The problem is that some of these limitations are unknown to most people. It's bad enough that online MP is locked to subscribers.

Above Xbox graphics with a different way to play vs. Online MP and other features locked to people who pay more

I wonder...

That's a pleasant upgrade experience? I bought a 320 gig hdd off newegg for 70 bucks and that's all it took to upgrade my ps3. I'm looking at 750 gig hdds right now, or soon. I more than 4 gigs of wallpapers on my hdd, about 30 gigs of music, some videos.

4 gigs is terrible, and they had no reason, other than continuing to price gouge their consumers, for not finally putting in a basic laptop drive in their new redesign.

And PS2 graphics.

Graphics are important, but not the defining factor. The fact of the matter is that the Wii is the only system that comes standard with ONE game, let alone two. And it comes standard with Wii Motion Plus, which is only slightly less accurate than Move (which costs 100 minimum) and much better than Kinect (which will cost 150). Also, while obviously falling far short of PS3 and Xbox 360, the Wii is clearly a cut above PS2, Gamecube, and Xbox. Examples:

so basically the console that we would need to buy 2 and 1/2 of if Gran Turismo ever decided to go 360 would be a better buy?

Considering how big game installs are nowadays I wouldn't take my chances.

Do having a game console with no wifi, no hard drive, and still having to pay $50 a year for online is a fantastic deal? You can't even play like 1/3 of the games out there (at least properly) without an expensive MS hard drive, one that comes cheaper if it comes with the 360.

TC, you cannot possibly be serious in any way shape or form in saying the arcade is a good deal.

Actually the $200 360 the TC is referring to has 4GB internal memory as well as Wifi. You're thinking of the old Arcade.

First of all it has wifi, not only that, it has the MOST ADVANCED AND LATEST WIFI 'N' TECHNOLOGY. The PS3 is still using the snail slow and outdated 5 year old 'g' wifi.

Finally, you can play 100% of the games with it without the need for a hard drive.

There is not going to be any latency difference between N and G for the vast majority of people when playing games. It makes a much, much larger difference when doing things like buffering/streaming media.

No, not after I read a thread in here about not being able to play co-op or firefight online in Halo: Reach. It's especially more a bummer now that matchmaking makes it even easier to jump into both modes. Spend the extra hundred to get a 250GB 360 if you want a 360.

Wi fi eh? Well it finally has something PS3 has had for years lol.

But even the internal 4GB memory is extremely limited and doesn't count as a hard drive, the only way to even play co-op, use forge or play firefight in Halo Reach is by having an expensive hard drive. So you can consider it a great deal as you play half of your $60 game, or you could get an actual deal by not getting the gimped version that forces you to by an expensive drive to play something good. Don't even mention Forza 3, a game that cannot at ALL be played without the need to install to the drive, you know, making the whole 100% thing a little higher than in real life.

It never ceases to amaze me how much misinformation and BS fanboys can pull out of their rears.

Overall it turned out as a very inexpensive and pleasant upgrade experience. Most people on this forum try to paint this horrid picture of doom just to criticize a system they don't own.

alexfla

That's a pleasant upgrade experience? I bought a 320 gig hdd off newegg for 70 bucks and that's all it took to upgrade my ps3. I'm looking at 750 gig hdds right now, or soon. I more than 4 gigs of wallpapers on my hdd, about 30 gigs of music, some videos.

4 gigs is terrible, and they had no reason, other than continuing to price gouge their consumers, for not finally putting in a basic laptop drive in their new redesign.

Did you buy that HD three and a half years ago like I did?

Almost 2.
