Is the 3DS destined to be the greatest handheld of all time?

Do not get me wrong, I am a big fan of the Vita as well.

The 3DS however is underfire for its lack of library supposedly... Look at the DS's first year and tell me it is golden (Psp > DS in 2005 in terms of library).

The 3DS is so far doing just as good if not better in terms of sells. Look at the AAE's the 3DS has and look at its upcoming library.

I know that Greatest Handheld of all time seems like hyperbole but honestly with the rise of mobile gamming I would not be surprised if next gen handhelds were alot more of a niche market.

3DS has big shoes to fill, and a long road ahead to take that title from the DS.

Best thing is, if it does, it's only better for gamers.

The DS really only shined in RPGs imo much like the ps1 and ps2.

The 3DS is looking to destroy the DS in regards to the other genres though.

Since RPG is my genre of preference, that's all I needed. :P

And naturally the one on 3DS looks better. Advancing technologies and all that jazz.

There were so many great games on DS, not just RPG's. (Although, yes, there were many superb ones.) But the new DS technology really allowed for some unique and creative games to be made.

The 3DS has everything the DS had minus GBA slot + 3D.

So you have more powerful hardware that can pull off good looking polygons actually and utilize 3D.

The 3DS has alot more potential than the DS.

I am saying that the DS was a flawed system... Most of the good games in its library consisted of RPGs. The 3DS is already destroying it in library variety in my opinion so conside the "big shoes" filled.

I am not saying that the DS was not a good system... It is just that the 3DS had a far superior launch year in my view.

Um... okay. You're clearly a Nintendo Hater. They aren't awful, and unlike the Wii, the 3D doesn't really affect anything besides the graphics.

I've fallen in love with my 3DS. Chalked up another 5 hours on Devil Survivor Overclocked today. And those lucky inferior PAL gamers are getting Tales of the Abyss soon too :x I can easily see the 3DS being to the DS what the PS2 was to the PS1. Exactly, I think of the 3DS as a vastly superior DS.

The 3DS already obliterates the DS when it comes to fighting games.

I have had the system for 12 days and already own, Mario 3ds, pilot wings and SSF4, for me thats the most games I've bought for any system in such a short amount of time. So yes, I believe it will be the greatest handheld of all time, the future looks promising with great games coming out as well.

Its a bit early to tell, of course, but so far I'm loving my 3DS and I feel overwhelmed with titles I want to try out. I'm quite poor, you see, so I cant afford to get new games very often. Right now I'm planning to get Mario Kart 7 in about 2 weeks then 3D land later on. I also want to get Resident Evil Revelations. Plus they are bound to make a new zelda sooner or later. And, while not confrimed, they are considering a majoras mask remake. :D

It's missing a strong RPG. Pokemon would be killer; Tales of the Abyss will probably be the first big hitter in this regard.

The 3DS has nothing on the DS in terms of innovaton, obviously, which is Nintendo's biggest selling point. At this point, I'd take the DS over the 3DS mainly because of the battery life and library.

No, but the iPad is.

mario 3d land is something else and im optimistic for the future. but to beat the ds, thats a tall order..

That depends on your tastes. Though, it's probably because I've played every Harvest moon since the GB days.

If it somehow managed to outdo the DS, I will be very impressed. I expect the 3DS to be great, but I do not ever see it outdoing the DS in anything- sales, quality and quantity of games, anything.charizard1605
