I personally don't like the Dual Shocks. My hands hurts after only 30 min playing.

There should be small controllers for little kids, medium controllers for pre-teenies, and large controllers for big men.Messiahbolical-They would have to be re-engineered and it would probably end up costing us even more for each controller than it does now.
Not at all. It's lasted 3 gens and I want to see it last 3 more. It's far superior and more comfortable than the crappy 360 pad.
yes it is from a comfort and use standpoint it is woefully updated, Id rather they had released the boomerrang which actually saw some innovation in ergonomic design.
No it's not outdated, if it was they would have changed the model but the fans didn't demand that they change the controller design so obviouslsy people still like it. I have been playing with the Dual Shock for well over 10 years and it's very familair and well made, sure there are a few things I would like to see them change on it like I think the triggers can be made a little better and mabey make it the size a little bigger. But aside from that I think it's perfect and I prefer it over the 360 controller...
Not saying the 360 controller is bad or anything it's just that I find the PS3 controller to be more....how do I say...."natural" for me and more precise because I like the thumbstick layout on the PS3 controller better. The 360 controller has a more asyemtrical design, but hey if you prefer that type that's cool.
I think the Dual Shock 3 is a very comfortable controller. I also think the 360 controller is very comfortable, but there are 2 main things that give the DS3 an advantage over the 360 controller making it my controller of choice. The DS3 has a far superior D-Pad for fighting games, and the analog sticks are much more precise and have a larger radius of movement.

I don't care... it would be well worth the extra money if I could use a controller that isn't designed with little kids in mind when I'm 6'5" 21 year old man with hands to match my height... The size and the R2/L2 buttons are honestly the only major problems I have with the Dual Shock 3. Other than those it's a great controller. Just wish Sony would fix those though, they're pretty big problems...
When we talk about the Dual Shock, we can notice that the design is basically the same as it was back in 1997.
Sure, it's a pretty universal gamepad design but is it really the optimal?
See, I think it's a very good pad for 2D games like shmups or sidescrollers, but it's a little uncomfortable for 3D games due to the position of the analog sticks.
I am of the opinion that the 360 pad has surpassed the Dual Shock in basically all aspects by now (in other words: it's just the more comfortable gamepad).
I also think that the GameCube pad was more comfortable that the DS2 and I found the N64 pad more ergonomic than the DS1.
If PS4 will again have the Dual Shock, will that mean it'll lag behind the competition in gamepad terms?
Discuss.

I find the 360 controller very uncomfortable. I feel likeI have to dislocate my left them to use the left analog stick and I find it very difficult to use the two shoulder buttons on the same side at the same time. The DS design is what feels natural to me.
I prefer the Xbox 360 controller but I do like the dualshock. I think it just needs to be larger in size. Everything else is fine and doesn't need to be improved.
Dualshock is garbage. It's time to get rid of that crap Sony. It was fine when the Playstation was the only game in town, but xbox came along and showed us a better comtroller. It's time for a change.todd2rnice opinion you have there. the 360 controller is nice too.
They need to replace the "d-pad" asap. Other than that, it's just like a 360 controller or a CC.
Practically they don't need to but it's boring to have the same design.
I like the DS3 more than the 360 pad by a large margin. The 360 pad is last gen tech, while the ds3 is current gen tech. MS needs to get with the times and upgrade the buttons and sticks on that pad so that they are more sensitive.
As far as design and comfort go, the ds3 makes more sense to me, since it's much more versatile. The 360 pad may be good for one hand size, but for everyone else it's going to be much less comfortable than a controller that isn't designed to be wedged in your palms.
Why the D-pad? That's the one thing that the Playstation controller is most frequently praised for. They need to replace the "d-pad" asap. Other than that, it's just like a 360 controller or a CC.

I dunno what the deal is here with people on System Wars constantly getting hand cramps from using game controllers...I never got the love for the monstrosities that were the original Xbox and Dreamcast controllers, either, but that's off-topic.
Anyway, I've been a fan of the Dual Shock controllers since the PS1. There's a reason Sony's stuck with that design for such a long time: if it ain't broke, don't fix it. I still prefer it to the 360 gamepad, and I use both fairly reguarly, since I use a 360 controller on my PC.
Ughhh, how is the 360 controller the best? IT's horrible. My thumb gets very tired after playing Catherine with the D-pad. It's also horrible for fighters. Even outside of that it doesn't do anything outstanding, I don't get how it's the best controller? DS3 is the best controlelr this gen.
i hate the 360 controller, but thats just me, i prefer the ps3 controller and when sony tried to change it alot of people were crying about it, so its the game audience fault but i prefer the dualshock
daul analog is dated and the sticks on the ps3 are way to loose the dead zone is huge on it.
dontshackzmii
Wut??
It has the smallest deadzone of all the controllers.... and DS3 has 10bit sensitivity, while I have herd that 360 controller only has 8bit (could not find any specs for the 360 controllers analog sticks, other than forum posts, so I'm not gonna treat it as a fact)
but the bottom line is, its impossible to say which is better as it all comes down to preference and opinion, but go a head with this old topic.
here is a link to show you how archaic this debate is and we haven't gone anywhere. http://au.gamespot.com/forums/topic/25699591
You guys make religious fanatics look like sane people :P
Its good and I like it than the 360s but the PS4 should have something very different. New Gameplay comes from new methods of input
I like the Dual shock, I've liked it ever since buying one to play Ape Escape on ps1. However, for people who didn't game on ps 1 and 2 (and therefor didn't use Dual shock), the Xbox controller is probably the more comfortable controller (especially for people with bigger hands). I game with what I'm used too, and what is tried and tested for me (the dual shock).
I have always hated the Dual Shock design. Ever since it was released for PSX. I really wish they would change it.
The Snes did not had 4 shoulder buttons dude it just had 2.[QUOTE="tormentos"][QUOTE="razgriz_101"]
strangely the latter 2 are wrong and 4 button layouts belong to the snes.

I'll just leave this here...
Would anyone mind explaining to me what is so great about the DualShock's D-Pad? With the way it is laid out like four buttons without a centre, I have no place to put my thumb. Or is this more about a comparison to the 360's D-Pad (Is it really that bad?). I have never played on a 360, but I found the Xbox's D-Pad usable.
I've never gotten cramps from any controller before, nor do I think of any (official) controller as 'bad', however, the DualShock is probably my least favourite.

Because it is really imprecise.

I've played several PC games (Lara Croft: GoL, Bioshock, a couple of NFS racing games) using gamepad/controllers. The Dual Shock design is okay. I have no problems with the design. But, I do like the 360 controller better. It seems a more ergonomic design to me.
The fuss over the differences between the two isn't worth 5 pages of threads.
yeah they tried to change it to a friggin boomerang. that crap was a slap in the face to ergonomic design. wth were they thinking. they did also make the terrible mistake of thinking that rumble functionality was "last gen". fortunatly they have smartened up since then. the only reason the DS3 exists now is because of that stupid boomerang control. if they had actually invested time into something that makes sense sony probably wouldve evolved the controller into something else better then what they have now and mabey we wouldnt be having these pointless comparisons....i hate the 360 controller, but thats just me, i prefer the ps3 controller and when sony tried to change it alot of people were crying about it, so its the game audience fault but i prefer the dualshock
Chris_Williams
DS and xbox controller are both comfortable to hold and i owned both. Is that what everybody does with there controller, just to hold it?
What about how well can you play with it?
I like the DS more cuz when i game with xbox controller it make me feel like i never played a game before.
I hope they continue with DS next gen or at lease make that and a optional controller.....boom problem solved.

Not everyone is made to be a olger. If they do that, what about the midget?
Cant really make everyone happy, if ps3 sells i doubt they change anything.
