Is the Halo series overrated?

As a Playstation fan I can honestly say that Halo was awesome when it was Bungie.

The first had great MP DM via LAN parties. That was awesome hooking up 4 Xbox systems and having 16 players.

The second was still awesome in single player. The online multiplayer was horrible. I bought an Xbox with the collectors edition of Halo 2 to play with my brother. When I went online it was the most hateful online community I had ever and still have ever witnessed. I sold the Xbox and games after one month with no regrets.

I played Halo 3 at friends homes and local multiplayer remained fun.

That's the last experience I've had with the series but the hype was well founded. The series was great unless you played online.

1 to Reach were dope. 4 was questionable. Haven't played 5 so nah, not overrated.

I never understood the appeal of Halo and I'm a big Xbox fan. I've tried to get into the series multiple times, but I just never have fun with it. Goldeneye 007, Perfect Dark, and the Timesplitters series are the kind of First Person Shooter games that I like and Halo just isn't as fun as those games are to me.

No because most people agree that Halo was great when Bungie made it but sucks since 343 has made it.

All I remember about the multiplayer mode was a bunch of dudes hopping around like bunnies with guns. It sucked.

4 was a good game by all accounts. Not as good as 3, though. 5 had a teribad campaign and they will need to pull the story out of a fire. Still, the MP in 5 is arguably the best in the series, so it has that going for it.

Uncharted is hardly overrated. It's popular and very good for a reason.

Not even close. If 343 actually made a Halo with MP on par with 2/3 the Xbox brand would be in much better shape right now.

I vote yes. All games are overrated. I'm just too cool for games.

They used to be most overrated FPS series but recent games are not receiving well praise.

HALOS represent by far and I mean light-years far, the finest gaming franchise in this and any other universe. It's really indisputable, just ask me. :P

Nope.

Halo CE was an honest to goodness fantastic FPS experience and deserves praise for being one of my most replayed games of the 6th gen. It was a COMPLETE game both single player and multiplayer.

That said every other halo I played since then was trash and only focused on MP with shit campaigns making them half games and not worthy of any type of special acknowledgement.

I hated both pt 2 and 3...I stopped trying after 3 because the reviews were shit and didn't mention that the games were absolutely worthless without MP.

100% overrated. The story was pretty good, but at the end of the day, it is just a shooter with a handful of good concepts. I do not think that the Halo games are the masterpieces that people say they are, but I would say that they are pretty good even though they are highly overrated.

Overall, yes. Reach was the last great Halo game, and the turning point for the series.

There's no such thing as overrated games. Why not just make a thread about highly-rated games that no one wants to buy?

1 and 2 were great, 3 was OK and then the series died.

What is the point of this thread? Virtually everyone without an Xbox will say "Overrated!", and virtually every lem will say "Not overrated!".

I liked 1 and 2. The rest never came out on PC so I kind of forgot about them.

1, 2, 3, and Reach are in no way overrated. ODST and 4 were. 5 got the score it deserved here on Gamespot imo.

Yes and no. I believe the magic of CE has been lost throughout the later iterations, but even so, most of the series is still be than most of whats out there. CE or nothing!
