N64 is the consolethat has the greatest first party games of all time.
It falls flat on my list due to the distinct lack of JRPGs. PS1 had Chrono Chross, FF 7/8/9, Xenogears, Front Mission, FF Tactics, Vandal Hearts, Threads of Fate, Breath of Fire, Tales of Destinyand many many more.
[QUOTE="hakanakumono"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] Really? Tecmo, Square Enix, Capcom, Konami... I think they have all the major ones. Maybe I'm missing someone? And yes, they don't have the support of the smaller Japanese devs, probably.charizard1605
I'm not really sure about what you're talking about, because Japanese developers are stronger on the HD consoles than on the Wii.
I was talking more about the handhelds than the consoles. Well, handhelds never had much Western support anyway so I wouldn't really knock Nintendo there. Sony has made a few token inroads with Vita (Call of Duty, Bioshock) but we all know Western devs prefer to make PC and home console games and pretty much always have.Time will tell whether the Japanese devs stick with Nintendo... I would say Square, for instance, has moved pretty strongly into the PSP camp over the last couple of years.
[QUOTE="Midnightshade29"]Was this the first console you owned as kids? I can't see how it gets any praise? The op listed it's entire library of A-AAA games in 2 lines on his first post. N64 had ZERO RPGs, that's a fail in my book! PS1 would be my vote for best console (well PC if you want to count all systems). SNES would be best ninty console (also the last one with good 3rd party support).charizard1605Just because a system doesn't have JRPGs, it's a failure?
I'd write it off as well because of the lack of RPGs. Granted, I enjoyed my N64 for other games (Banjo-Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie), but the lack of RPGs really hurt the console, especially after the SNES had such a stellar selection, and the competition sported a buffet table.
Greatest console for me is SNES, on topic. And not because of the RPGs.
[QUOTE="charizard1605"]I believe it is. It is certainly my favorite, and the one I have the fondest memories of.CrazedDinosaurno kidding, I got the N64 at Launch back in 1996, and there a huge blizzard that winter, with tempature -0 where I was. Nothing but Mario 64 and Wave Race, it was like sex.
It really was a step ahead of the competition. Smash Bros was just insane. That was completely new at the time. The whole 4player thing is what set it above the competition for me. It had great single player games, but also the ability to have a group of people together and have some in depth multiplayer sessions. The Saturn and PSX lacked the latter. Only the original xbox competed in the offline multiplayer respect, until live hit, that is. People seemed to stop making levels for for less players.
SNES or N64 for me.

I think Square heavily supported the DS until late last year, but they also upped their PSP support in the last few years. One was not necessarily supported at the cost of the other though.- 4 controller ports out of the box - scarce load times - AAAAA Single-Player games. - AAAAA Multi-Player games. Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Banjo & Kazooie, Banjo-Tooie, Diddy Kong Racing, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon, Goemon's Great Adventure, Paper Mario, Star Fox 64, Wave Race, Conker's Bad Fur Day, Super Smash Bros., Bomberman 64, Episode 1: Racer, Body Harvest, Blast Corps, Turok 1 & 2, & Jet Force Gemini.CrazedDinosaur
You forgot about Mischief Makers, one of the best platfomers ever. Anyway, wen i think about a GOAT console, i think about one on which there's a big library of games that anyone can pick up and play today. The N64 has excellent games, but its dwarfed by the SNES. I can name over 30 SNES games that are ageless masterpieces, wile i can barely name 15 on the N64 that can stand up tall.
[QUOTE="93BlackHawk93"][QUOTE="charizard1605"] It definitely was Nintendo's best. MAYBE the Gamecube comes close, but really, the N64 has no competition.charizard1605God no. How dare you mention the GC but not the SNES. :? Because I think that N64 and GC are marginally > SNES. Don't kill me!
Says the man who thinks the DS is better than the GBA... Get outta here.:P
N64 was my first system, that I owned, not one I had to share.:P I have fond memories of it, but the PSOne certainly was the better system in terms of overall quality games. RARE was unmatched that generation, but just RARE games aren't enough to attain "greatest of all time" or "greatest of the gen".:P Just like how simply having Mario 64 and Pilotwings 64 is a terrible launch. Mario 64 may be a revolutionary game, (I personally preferred DK64, Banjo and Spyro to it by far), it's still a weak launch.:P
I always thought their library of games were a little too similar, PS1 had a more varied selection of games.
It was an AMAZING console. It had some AMAZING games. goldeneye with 4 people while skipping school LOL. WCW/NWO with your friends while skipping school. kobe bryant basketball, wayne gretzky 3d hockey, mario kart..... the list just goes on and on. But overall i would HAVE to put ps2 as the best console of all time, simply because it has the most great games. hell this gen is STILL trying to compete with ps2's game quality. ofcoarse fps **** gen are better but overall games and gameplay the ps2 just had a mammoth library. N64 is probably 2nd best.
