Epic already said UE 4 wont be compatible with wiiu. Cryengine 3 and Frostbite 2 are running on current gen consoles. It will because it will run on some of the big name engines like unreal engine 4,cryengine 3 and it's future engines(maybe),frostbite2 and it's future engine ( maybe). This time the power excuse can not be used on the WiiU because it will be able to run most of the big next gen engines. The only thing that could kill the wii u's third party support is low third party software sales. It won't be a pain in the butt to downgrade a game onto the WiiU like it was on the Wii.

Epic said that the engine has the ability to work on weaker products like the IPad with the use of a scaler. The PS4 or XBOX720 won't use the full power of the engine either.
It would have to be scaled back to the point where its barely better than current gamesFor nintendo and their exclusive games its next gen. Gamecube and wii were the same generation when it comes to level of technology. Remember that generations in technology dont have an official definition at this time. When people speak of next gen it typically refers to a new level for the industry not some company fianlly catching up. Ever heard of first generation mobile phone service, then you had 2g, 3g, 4g? Each one comes with it an improvement. 360 and PS3 are already 4g so to speak and nintendo is finally joining the fourth gen.example: N64 vs. Psone. Get it through your thick skulls: hardware equality has nothing to do with what generation the hardware is in
The games the system plays have nothing to do with gens either

Wii U is not even this gen. Can't believe Nintendo is even serious releasing the Wii 1.5, with a giant tablet controller that majority of casuals will think is just an upgrade to the Wii rather than a new system. It's going to fail so hard.
Generations aren't determined by hardware power, they're determined by release date.meetroid8If by that then that means its still current gen because its released in this gen.

Gens are not determined by power.
It depends on what you consider next gen, layton2012
Wrong, is Nintendo's next gaming console after Nitendo's 7th gen console, hence is next gen, as simple as that.
Its not about next gen or super advanced technology. This is Nintendos next step and new direction. Its about the games they are going to make for the next 6 years. There is always going to be a stronger machine and Nintendo is not interested in trying to be top dog with the technology, but rather the experience. That said, i think the WiiU will be good enough graphically to satisfy most people this time around, unlike the Wii which was really underpowered even when it launched.
this post is exactly why people think of the wiiU as not next gen. It's not about rational points. They just don't like Nintendo and want to punish them for their console design philosophyWii U is not even this gen. That's what I'm thinking to.The other two console makers will try to make somewhat powerful and profitable consoles and the gap bwtween the three consoles won't be as big as this gen.Engines like Unrea Enginel 4(maybe) will be able to run on all consoles and the PC making developement easy on all the consoles.
[QUOTE="super600"][QUOTE="Cranler"] Does it play next gen games?Cranler

Epic already said UE 4 wont be compatible with wiiu. Cryengine 3 and Frostbite 2 are running on current gen consoles. Wrong. Epic never said whether the Wii U can't run UE4. But since the best version of it isn't exactly asking much, and they will have UE4 for "mass market" devices like the iPhone then yes the Wii U will run UE4.Do you understand math? Wii CPU: 729Mhz (single core), Wii U CPU: Likely Three or Four Core @3Ghz or more Wii RAM: 88MB, Wii U RAM: Rumored 1.5GB Wii GPU: 243Mhz, Wii U GPU: Rumored 50% better than PS3/360 so likely in the 800Mhz range or more So I imagine you can see why "Wii 1.5" is the stupidest thing ever.Wii U is not even this gen. Can't believe Nintendo is even serious releasing the Wii 1.5, with a giant tablet controller that majority of casuals will think is just an upgrade to the Wii rather than a new system. It's going to fail so hard.
