as a longtime psn player i recently got into live and jesus christ, the overall competition on here is fierce. in my experiences, psn is generally a more casual experience. if you're decent, you'll steamroll over most people save for the few elite players...but on live it seems like everyone's a beast. i was playing fight night champion on live today and i was swaggering because usually i destroy people on psn, but instead i was getting my ass handed to me repeatedly. i actually had to focus to beat some people man..those guys don't **** around.

for people that own both systems, do you find that live is generally a more 'hardcore' experience?

I don't play much online games on my PS3, but i used to play KZ2 quite a lot, and i'm not sure if it was just that game, or perhaps I was incredible, but it was ridiculously easy.

The kills were also very satisfying due to the cool noise it made.

Depends. I know back on MW2 I was pretty good on PSN, then 5-6 months after when I bought 360 I was getting smashed in MW2. That's my only experience from the same game on both systems.

It really depends on the game. Both systems have good and bad players. 360 players are much more tryhard and use 100+ dollar headsets (like myself lol)

I agree to an extent. Live might be louder but only because everyone has a mic as a matter of course. PSN, you have to go the extra mile and get a mic. Still, how do you judge a person's skill online?

By looking at their rank and score. I would say KDR, but people can always use cheap tactics to get a ton of kills.

By that same token, what if the overall skill levels are different on either network? That would effect overall KDR, wouldn't it?

If only we knew the actual overall KDR of each network.....

So basically just because someone plays their online multiplayer on 360 means that they are better than the next guy who purchased the PS3 to play multiplayer? Anyone who thinks that is a ignorant fanboy who should probably get his/her head checked. I was one of the best players in the world on Rainbow Six Vegas on PS3, went to play it on the 360 and had no issues leaving a massacre of players behind me. I am no slouch at Battlefield Bad Company 1 either and had no problem tearing people apart on the 360 version. Gaming on one system does not make anybody more hardcore than the next.

I would say yes it is. Although the only game I owned for both systems back when I still had my PS3 was SSFIV, so I can't speak for over all. In SSFIV I found the better competition to be on the 360, which is ironic since the PS3 is used for most major fighting game tournaments (like EVO). Although the good players generally play local and not online so that makes sense as well.

PS3 and Xbox players, from what I observed when playing, seem to be evenly skilled (Xbox has more mics, and so there is more competitive talk, and communication between team mates). But neither are on the same level of skill and competition as some games on PC (CS, CSS, SC 1+2 etc...)

As far as COD is concerned Xbox players are far superior IMO, PSN players will rarely shoot down KS, instead I saw alot of them blasting at them with their guns, which made them easy targets for me. Xbox players also use they cheap stuff far more

When I play Call of Duty and Gears of War, I'm always or nearly always on top on Xbox LIVE. When I play Call of Duty and Uncharted, I'm always or nearly always on top on PSN. Halo and Killzone I'm most of the time on top but I'm always near the top.... They are the same thing. The only difference is the that people talk more on Xbox LIVE and the when PSN users do talk, the sound quality is pretty bad.

Well, I have PSN many ppl i know in high school have live and i play COD/Halo better than alot of them(except for the ones that play 24/7 or have a ridiculous amount of skill, usually because they're really smart or have used real guns before). I think overall the elite PC gamers are probably the most hardcore of them all. I had a rude awakening playing my first match of Team Deathmatch and Counterstrike a few years ago:( As for Live vs. PSN, I think it depends on the gamer. The mainstream crowd of Live just plays for thrills and to feel good at doing something, but there are more elite players on both fronts.

I also play with my friends on their 360's a lot.

Comp is the same.

Anyone who says otherwise is just being silly.

If you took all users, then both would average out to very similar numbers. Even if the 360 has a better top percentile of gamers, PS3 could make up in other areas, like have better lower percentiles. You'd see bell curves if you mapped both out, that's pretty easy to see. Now, is it possible that the absolute best player on PSN is better than their Xbox Live counter-part? Sure, but theat difference is negligible in the entire mass of users.

Why would they be any different? Are XLB players more "pro" becasue they pay for Live? Of course not. There is no difference whatsoever. End of story.

More playerson Xbox Live so it will have a higher % of people that are good THAT DONT MEAN THE THEIR BETTER...also there are way more kids on xbox because parents just buy the kids the cheaper system and kids have better hand-eye cordination which gets worse as you get older and there tends to be an older, mature crowd on PSN...but having played both and having a clan of 200 ppl that play both and weve all talked about it before....xbox is way to easy in pubs especially popular games like COD and Halo because with the higher % of good people theres also more noobs...BUT the Gamebattles is A LOT harder on Xbox which is what I play 24/7...so I guess it comes down to if your a Pubstar or a Tryhard Nerd

There is a lot more activity on Live in terms of voice chat etc. I haven't played Call of Duty on Xbox in a long time but when I did, every game I got into there was kids screaming and arguing. The players on Live also seem to be better at online shooters as well to be honest.

its the same overall level of competition across both platforms. at the end of the day how well you do depends on who you get paired with and against.

The online experience is bloody identical. and please, the controller is "better" is preference I preferred the PS3 controller for CoD. Gotta laugh, there is absolutely no difference playing shooters on either platform, maybe XBOX LIVE is more popular, but that doesnt change anything

Paying for your online service improves your skill... That's one advantage Xbox has over any other system. They have improved skill, better online service and the best controller, not even PC gamers can stand up to the might that is Xbox gamers. P.S. Voted for both the same :P

That could mean different things. 1) 360 players get kill to easy. 2)The number of players on the xbox version was by far higher than the PS3 one. 3)The 2 abode combined. 4)PS3 players are harder to kill,so it results in fewer kills.

From my personal experience with both online services (I used to have xbl) I woulld say that they are the same. Although xbl is a bit more talkative than psn, but aside from that they seem the same in terms of skill levels and competetion and the number of players.
