Is the "cinematic" approach Sony is taking good for the industry?

personally i prefer a game which gives u full control (eg: ratchet and clank) and just have cutscenes here and there.

Definitely. All other systems don't have very much variety. Sony isn't afraid to offer up what the others aren't. That's why they Dominate.ispeakfact

Sony's REAL funds go to their biggest most re-playable games/titles like Planetside 2, Everquest, etc with huge double digit millions not these 5 hour hit and quit it 64.00 dollar ripoffs that you PS3 drones cling too.

MGS4 is a megaton game and arguably still one of the best of the generation

It may be but you have to admit that the long cut-scenes are quite boring (unless you are really that into Kojima's visions) ;)

As an MGS fan i found a lot of them to be good, although some were un-needed.

Its part and parcel with MGS if your still moaning bout cutscenes in MGS games your near enough a decade and a half late to the party.

I don't really care. In some games their fine and in others they're just put there with no structure or relevance whatsoever.

Also, Sony isn't the only one guilty of this, as others have already pointed out, there are a TON of other developers/publishers that put QTE and long cutscenes into their games. EX: Square Enix.

I don't have a PS3 yet but having played a couple of the God of War games I can certainly say I don't enjoy them. My friend absolutely loves them though so as long as some people are really enjoying them then yes, I'd say it's good for the industry. I'm not fussed while there are plenty of other games I do enjoy being released, variety is a good thing.

there was a time when this was a good thing

add cut scenes being bad & using the word linear as being bad

poor poor system wars ... *sigh*

If the gameplay is good and there is plenty of it then I cant complain. As a whole I tend to dislike cinematic games, but there is certainly room for them in the industry. As long as not too many games follow suit I see no issue in it.
