Is the recent decline of the 360 due to recession?

M$ did seem to be on cruise control this whole year. I remember we all waited for E3 to change our perception of 2009, but the year is almost over, eh, it is what it is.

Next year looks to be a redeeming year for my 360.

Microsoft lately haven't been doing anything for the 360. If they haven't been putting the effort in this year what makes lemmings think next year Microsoft will be on a roll?

Recession? No, MS just didn't have anything to really show this year is my guess. They will have their hands full next year though, the competition will be feicrce. If there is one thing they have though it is consistency.

300$ dollar PS3 slim.

And the fact that the 360 hasn't had a big title except halo which is hated as it is loved. (More loved but it's halo)

PS3 has had a very strong year, wait untill halo reach and gears 3 to bring them back, that's all they have right now. IMO

MS probably prefers new users>current users. Since their not getting many new users any more, no point trying to create big games to attract people. Just cruise along with sequels.

Please show some year on year #'s to clarify ok.

Its just odd considering the 360 launched pretty strong and really pushed the system onto the masses and was very adamant about getting exclusives and stealing gta4 and this year its been very quiet. im thinkin halo reach and gears3 is the 360 last little hurrah before the 360 sails off into the sunset. i really doubt theres gonna be another xboxominous_titan

Can't you just admit that the 360 DID NOT have a good year in exclusives in comparison to what we 390 gamers got in 2006 and 2007 (notice I didn't bring up 2005, since the 360 wasn't out till the very end of that year.)

I certainly don't think MS is done with the 360. As of now, it is finally a profitable venture, and let's remember: Mass Effect 2 and Splinter Cell were supposed to be the big year end titles, and they just got delayed.

Haven't 360 sales generally been up year on year for most of this year?

If they're down now, it's probably because they dropped the price around this time last year, and the gains from that drop are fading. Sony suffered from a similar fate for most of this year, and they put out a lot of solid titles.

They aren't exactly bursting with exclusives this year, but I think they're doing fine.

I think MS knows that the xbox360 as well as the other consoles are getting ready to leave the market. PCs are getting too cheap and its going to get even cheaper so MS is basically giving up in this part of their business and focusing on other aspects. MS has taken the 360 as far as they want to go with it given the current situaiton and knows that its not worth putting too much more money into.

3 out of 4 of those games clearly shows why M$ doesn't have to try hard at all to rake in the cash. Glorified expansions with brand new price tags makes a gamer cry.

I'll eventually pick up ODST and FM3, but pass on GTA DLCs and L4D2.

I think microsoft dumped alot of money and focus on natal and pretty much everything else went on the back burner for a moment.Id say theyll have a lot to show and say next e3.

another stupid topic about MS losing steam, you realise the 360 was the only console that actually showed any real sales growth over last year, you also realise that ODST alone will probably ousell every ps3 exclusive released this year combined, and we have yet to see how many copies forza 3 will sell, MS makes 70 dolars on every premium 360 they sell so they are not losing money, they are making profit, so they are having a slow year with exclusives, but what about PC/360 titles that are not bound for the ps3 like left4dead 2, mass effect 2, alan wake,shadow complex, perfect dark XBLA, risen and splinter cell conviction, not to mention multiplats generally sell better on the 360 and look and perform better, microsoft are doing fine, they are still in second place with no danger of it changing any time soon, i really hate topics like this, just cos it hasn't had that many exclusive this year doesn't mean the 360 is losing steam, if anything the ps3 is gaining momentum, the 360 certainly isn't losing any,delta3074

QFT See, this once again proves why cows are the worst fanboys in existence. They get 2 major games launched this weak and instead of playing them, fixate themselves with how the 360 is in decline. Don't worry cows, I'm sure the PS3 will finally catch up, in about 5 years or so...

Not sure what is up with MS & really don't care too much either. I've bought way more games for my 360 this year than my PS3 so I don't have any reason to freak out over the console's 2009 performance as to me it's been a great year.

and for the first time ever i think i have to agree with Miz here xD, i mean they want to make it the best possible experience so they will cut back on other areas to focus on getting NATAL into more homes bigger titles.There could actually be a chance where some games may have been pushed back to be more compatable with NATAL who knows.Theres prolly games that were supposed to be announced aswell but maybe pushed back for NATAL.

And the fact Epic was saying UE3 was gonna be the engine for Natal could also maybe show Epic's working on a Natal centric project which be announced next year.

Companies have crappy years Ninty has had one,Sony's had one and now MS have.People shouldnt count their chickens before they have already hatched.
