Gamecube and Xbox easily got the most playtime out of me last gen (thousands of hours easily), and I still like the Wii. Wii just suffers from the inability to play multiplats like Batman, and Dead Space that add a ton of quality to the HD bros, but the exclusives on it are still good.

It's not like the Gamecube was any better with the multiplats, though. And developers didn't even have the "NOT ENUFF MIGAHURTZ" excuse back then.
The only thing missing from the Wii's library is a new Rogue Squadron. That's the only series that I miss, but otherwise I'm getting pretty much the same games as I did for GCN, namely Nintendo exclusives.

[QUOTE="sonicthemegaman"]If you ask me, they have nothing to really redeem themselves for. The GameCube had better 3rd party support which pretty much makes it automatically better than the Wii. Think of it this way, games like Soul Calibur 2 were full multiplat. The GC version even had Link in it. SC4 is exclusive to 360/ps3 while the Wii gets friggin SC: Legends. They went from having a nice list of multiplat games available to their system to barely being able to handle multiplats of any kind which lead to downgraded versions of HD games. When the Wii's line up of exclusives include ps2 games, you KNOW something is wrong. Mario1331
i dont see anything wrong where as nintendo went and use their rulesof having a cost efficent console so you KNOW something had to go which was graphics by a moderate margain. The GC was the 2nd strongest system and all of the systems that gen didnt have a significant difference in graphics when it came to multiplats.
actually last gen the consoles werent THAT much stronger then each other sort of like xbox and the wii difference.
That's part of the problem. The gap in strength between the competiting consoles have NEVER been this wide before. That's why you see comments saying "dur WIIs bees lazt gens sistem!!!". It's technically a current gen system but if you need to compare it to a damn Xbox to prove that then there's a problem.[QUOTE="Mario1331"][QUOTE="sonicthemegaman"]If you ask me, they have nothing to really redeem themselves for. The Sales say otherwise. The Gamecube was a commercial Failure and had SO MANY underrated games.
Truely an Underrated system then and a Underrated System now.

Do you really want to know why people apprececiate the Cube a lot more now? Because of how bad a release the Wii is in comparison. At least the Cube tried to compete. It is also a fact that the Cube still has a better library of games than the Wii, still.
''But but quality is subjective'', no, even many if not most sheep agree the Gamecube had better games for its time. Especially third party, why? because it was capable enough to handle anything dev's could create back then.
Sales and market expansion don't mean a thing to anyone but Nintendo before you start.

Wii Games that have yet to come out:
You need to look further into the Wii's exclusive lineup. Is the Gamecube better? Right now, yes. But that will change. Have faith!
Also, the Wii really did improve upon Metroid Prime and Resident Evil 4. Playing through Trilogy and RE4 with the Wii-mote was utter bliss for me. I still shutter when I look at my copy of RE5.

I've been saying the whole time that the current library is much worse than the Cubes, kinda sad after 4 years. Twilight Princess is a Gamecube game, the only difference on the Wii version is the controls and a mirrored map. You shouldn't count games that could flop for all you know, I doubt that'll happen with SMG2 but I have serious worries about Other M.
RE4>>>RE5 without a doubt, but I actually preferred the Cube version. The Wiimote makes it way too easy and even more of an action shooter. Seriously it changes the balancing, there's no point in buying a stock for the SMG or Red 9 because there's no noticeable recoil anymore.

If it bothers you that much in regards to RE4Wii edition you can just plug in a gamecube controller. The Wii version basically is the superior version. I personally preferred that version too.
The Gamecube also had better 3rd party support.
But that doesn't mean the Gamecube is better than the Wii (after all didn't people here say that the Wii is the Gamecube?) all that means is that the Gamecube had more support.
Except no one saw this and everybody LOVED the PS2! I hate missing out on a lot of games for my Gamecube.

That doesn't change the fact that you still didn't look at the Wii's lineup hard enough to discover that it has more quality exclusive games that those you mentioned. Your list had 21 games on it, 6 of them on that list have been re-released in some way, shape, or form on the the Wii (the two RE games, the two Metroid Prime games, Twilight Princess, and Mario Power Tennis). That leaves 15 exclusive games over the course of 5+ years of the GCN's life now, as opposed to the 14 you and kansasdude put up in just 3+ years of the Wii's life... and just for good measure, I'll throw in WarioWare: Smooth Moves (a AAA Wii game from GS) as a bouns.
Final score: 15-15 ...Uh-oh!
Your efforts are admirable, but throwing a list of games at someone isn't exactly the hardest thing in the world to do. Heck, if I wanted to make a case for the GCN being a better system, I would definitely have enough games in my collection to put up a similar, if not better, list. The fact is that for all of the griping people want to hand the Wii these days to even go as far to say that the GameCube had such a superior library, the system's doing quite well for itself. The fact that it isn't a finished product from the timeline standpoint means that the Wii is likely to amass a library of games that well surpasses the GCN once it's all said and done. The GCN didn't need redemption, as it was a solid system with some great games, but let's not make it look like it was perfect, since it was FAR from that. Nintendo knew that, and that's why the Wii is what it is - a console definitely worthy of carrying the Nintendo name.
Consider that games like Super Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart Wii, and Metroid Prime 3/Trilogy has been just as well-received, if not significantly better received, than their GCN counterparts, this whole GCN>Wii thing starts to lose ground in a hurry, since the GCN thrived on Nintendo's games more than any other, even with the now seemingly praised multiplats at its disposal. The likes of Excite Truck/Bots and Punch-Out also do their part in counter-balancing games like F-Zero GX and StarFox. And let's not even get started on games like Wii Sports Resort and the Endless Ocean series, since these are quality concepts the GCN didn't even get from Nintendo.
The only 'edge' the GCN has over the Wii would be in the way of the previously mentioned multiplats, and since when were multiplats ever a topic of great praise around these parts, especially if the other system is getting mostly exclusive titles from third parties? It's not as if the ratio of the notable GCN multiplat was ever that much greater than that of the notable Wii exclusive, and while we're on the subject, the GCN got more than its fair share of multiplat snubs to boot. You could make a much better arguement on the subject if this meant that the GCN had litterally dozens of great multiplats over the Wii's games, but it didn't. The GCN saw several droughts similar to the one the Wii got last year over the course of its life, as people would typically wait for the next big game from Nintendo to arrive. Even the Wii has had WiiWare and a niche, but quality game to fall back on from time to time.
I respect those who are supporting the GameCube at this point, but I'm curious to know if it's really a pro-GCN thing, or just an attempt to make an anti-Wii statement. The funny thing is that over time, I suspect the Wii to be viewed upon in a much better light, especially once people look around its vast library and discover that it also had its share of mega-hits and gems, much like the GameCube.

Gamecube to Wii ports are different, If its built for Gamecube its a Gamecube game. The Gamecube can play GBA games with the GBA player, does that make them Gamecube games?
Yes there's a lot more food for thought about their overall library's, if you include third party games. I don't need the Gamecube to make anti-Wii statements it does it on its own, I've always loved the Cube. But I do think its worth noting how much better the Cube was for its time, even if the Wii has outsold it considerably.
Did you really just call Soul Calibur II and Zelda: Twilight Princess exclusive? :|I've already posted this once, noteable exclusives

You know I don't think I ever answered the original Question.
Yes, The Wii gave Nintendo redemption for the Gamecube. Despite what people say now, most of these people hated the Gamecube back then and I'm pretty sure these are the same people that hate the Wii now and I'm sure these are the same people that will hate Nintendo's next Console.
Plus it's not the Console, it's the Games. People think they could just make a quick buck for slapping Motion Control and Most Developers think they have to put Motion Control in every game they make (instead they should just treat the "waggle" as another button and take use of the IR pointer and Classic Controller).
regardless if people really think the GCN is better then the wii
the wii can still play all GCN games, use its memory cards and controller ect. so it will always be a win/win situation
however, that cant be said for PS2 vs PS3, here the PS2 will always be Superior

Do you really want to know why people apprececiate the Cube a lot more now? Because of how bad a release the Wii is in comparison. At least the Cube tried to compete.
tomarlyn
What do you mean?
People notice how the Wii has lower standards than the Cube did last-gen and realise it wasn't all that bad. People who? You? Other than graphics, the Wii doesn't have lowered standards. People expect something different, not necessarily something worse, when a game gets ported to Wii. We know about the lowered graphics, but we expect better gameplay in return.I never understood why Sony removed the PS2 BC.regardless if people really think the GCN is better then the wii

lol, no, I want to love my Wii but its not possible. Maybe you'd buy a bucket of rocks and call it a quality innovation if it had Nintendo's name on it.
