In terms of sales, I mean. Can the PS3 or 360 catch up to Nintendo's giant in terms of sales numbers? The PS3 and the 360 combined only have a worldwide lead of something like 10 million units right now. On the other hand, the PS3 and 360 might have more longevity than the Wii, so it might happen that Wii sales slow down enough to let PS3 and/or 360 pick up some of the slack.

So what say you, System Wars: can the Wii be beaten this generation in terms of sales?

I'd say no chance what so ever. The gap is just too large, plus, every holiday the Wii has great numbers.

I think so because as we've seen the PS2 do it will become the champion of the low income family as far as video games

The 360 and PS3 don't grab me as having that kind of draw like the Wii can once it gets one more price cut.

The PS2 has lasted a long time from low income families making it their choice for gaming and I see the Wii taking the mantle so even when it's even more outdated then it is right now I think we'll see it's sales keep on going powered by another section of the population.

What are "real gamers" - people that can't pay attention to a game for more than five minutes without seeing some blood or an explosion (and it's got to be in high-def, I might add)? The way I see it, good games are good games - and "real gamers" (if there is such a thing in the first place) are gamers that play good games.

The competition has no chance of beating the Wii in sales, and the Wii has no chance of beating the competition when it comes to number of high quality games.

Maybe, maybe not in total sales this generation. But the real question, to me, is can the Wii stay relevant when the other consoles are resurgent and the Wii is decreasing in sales/popularity? Last quarter it took last place in worldwide sales among the home consoles. I have no reason not to think it will take last place again after the holiday season is over...

No not unbeatable. I have a potential situation:

Wii2 is announced for 2012 next year. Xbox360/PS3 announce, due to motion controls, that they will stick with current consoles for another generation (as if the motion controls were essentially the start of their new era).

In this time, Wii2 will essentially be competing with PS3 and 360 through the next gen. In this time, since the 360/PS3 have another gen of sales ahead of them, they could catch up to the Wii.

There you go, there is one POTENTIAL situation. Therefore, since a potential situation where Wii gets beaten in sales exists, then it is beatable.

It most likely won't be beaten, though.

It's called the bro dude crowd and teens, who are the same crowd who would buy games like Madden and Halo but bash games like Mario and Zelda and call them rehashed when the irony is pretty clear.

Ofcourse its not a "casual" game. But there are more casuals that own it. Here in my place, they either play FIFA or COD every now and then until the next iteration comes out. Same with many friends on PSN/XBL, you would see the majority playing COD.

Anyone who thinks cod is casual is just stupid, casual is mario or party games because their controls are so easy and simple to get into, witch is why any mom could play mario with her kids, now throw cod BO in a mothers hands she wont understand half the things, let alone the kids.

The sales numbers indicate that a lot of casuals are buying it. A lot of children play it and you know it. Not to mention that the controls of the COD are easy to get into. And no, Mario is for both casual and hardcore.

The final worlds in games like Super Mario Bros are way harder than your precious COD games. I doubt you're even above 22 years when you write comments like these.

All he's saying is that a game withrunning and a jump button is easier to pick up and play then a game like COD with it's running, jumping, camera controls, crouching, lying down, shooting, reloading, changing weapons, meleeing, switching on nightvision, throwing grenades, flashbangs, etc.....

Not talking about difficulty, simply the mechanics. My mam and dad can play Mario, all they need do is run and jump. They wouldn't even be able to move the camera in COD. Thats my definition of a casual game anyway, very easy for a non gamer to pick and play.

Sorry to hear that, DKCR is a blast. I'm crossing my fingers that Microsoft announces some good games for the 360 some time this year. Something other than just third party multiplats. I can't wait for Gears 3.

Actually, if you take into account XBLA games, the 360 will probably have more core exclusives than the Wii.

Will prob just buy it for myself. Mario Allstars book is hilariously bad. Shigsy's insightful comments on Mario 64: "Mario runs around like a hamster. In fact, I owned a hamster around this time." Don't whether to laugh or cry :P But yeah, next years gonna be awesome for 360 ;)

The sales numbers indicate that a lot of casuals are buying it. A lot of children play it and you know it. Not to mention that the controls of the COD are easy to get into. And no, Mario is for both casual and hardcore.

Sales=/=fanbase Starcraft 2 is very well sold, its hardly a casual game. Its easy for anyone who has had more experience with games, you are honestly saying that Cod is as easy as NWSMB which relies on the basic left right+a combo? Give someone a copy of Mario and he will learn it in a few minutes, give someone a copy of cod, and he wont know how to work being able to look and walk and the same time.

[QUOTE="LastRambo341"][QUOTE="locopatho"] All he's saying is that a game withrunning and a jump button is easier to pick up and play then a game like COD with it's running, jumping, camera controls, crouching, lying down, shooting, reloading, changing weapons, meleeing, switching on nightvision, throwing grenades, flashbangs, etc.....locopatho

Ya, but Mario games are known to have a higher difficulty setting. A lot of children play COD more than Mario because its "cool" ;)

Not talking about difficulty, simply the mechanics. My mam and dad can play Mario, all they need do is run and jump. They wouldn't even be able to move the camera in COD. Thats my definition of a casual game anyway, very easy for a non gamer to pick and play.

Which is wrong

Anyone who thinks cod is casual is just stupid, casual is mario or party games because their controls are so easy and simple to get into, witch is why any mom could play mario with her kids, now throw cod BO in a mothers hands she wont understand half the things, let alone the kids.

I don't see the PS3 or 360 breaking the Wii's sales any time soon. However they are both doing extremely well and have shown that the market has grown enough to allow for three consoles to be extremely profitable.
