Anyone who thinks cod is casual is just stupid, casual is mario or party games because their controls are so easy and simple to get into, witch is why any mom could play mario with her kids, now throw cod BO in a mothers hands she wont understand half the things, let alone the kids.

The final worlds in games like Super Mario Bros are way harder than your precious COD games. I doubt you're even above 22 years when you write comments like these.

You are trying to hard. Im not over 22, what does my age have to do it with it, i see. Its this weird assumption that people are somehow more mature when they look back and play games that appeal very well to children simply because they think it makes them look open minded about every single game.

[QUOTE="Sandvichman"][QUOTE="LastRambo341"] The sales numbers indicate that a lot of casuals are buying it. A lot of children play it and you know it. Not to mention that the controls of the COD are easy to get into. And no, Mario is for both casual and hardcore.LastRambo341
Sales=/=fanbase Starcraft 2 is very well sold, its hardly a casual game. Its easy for anyone who has had more experience with games, you are honestly saying that Cod is as easy as NWSMB which relies on the basic left right+a combo? Give someone a copy of Mario and he will learn it in a few minutes, give someone a copy of cod, and he wont know how to work being able to look and walk and the same time.

I gave someone a random copy of COD and he managed to get into it quickly. So you got debunked

Someone who is not experiences with games, but might wanna prove that yo.

Competitive multiplayer..

hiphops_savior

Yes, people buy it for multiplayer. But who does? CASUALS. I mean, come on. 10 million? 15 million? Its pretty much evident

It's called the bro dude crowd and teens, who are the same crowd who would buy games like Madden and Halo but bash games like Mario and Zelda and call them rehashed when the irony is pretty clear.

Ummmm I don't play Madden Halo or COD but I call Mario rehashed and I know pretty of Nintendo fans prefer games like Pikmin and think Mario is rehashed.

Cause usually people that complain about "Casual games are for kids!" are pretty young themselves. Like I said, games like Contra might be easier to pickup, but it's sure as hell harder than any modern console fps games.

Exactly appeareantly true mature adults watch Disney and play Pokemon while only kiddies play GEARS ... I hate that defense lol.

I mean Mario is geared more towards the younger crowd and yes you can be mature and play it but playing it does not make it more mature (especially if you bash games for having gore, mature themes)

Or you know they aren't usually young and your overgeneralizing ( I mean you lack evidence to support your claim making it moot)

Not that "casual" games being for kids is true as they probably have the widest audience lol.

Not talking about difficulty, simply the mechanics. My mam and dad can play Mario, all they need do is run and jump. They wouldn't even be able to move the camera in COD. Thats my definition of a casual game anyway, very easy for a non gamer to pick and play.

Which is wrong

Nope, I'm right :) Casual = pick up and play, like Mario or Wii Sports.

Mario is geared towards ever single age group. It cannot be successful if it focuses on one age group.

So you are telling, that you would be able to courdinate using over 12 buttons at the same time if you picked up cod, if you had never played any games?

The artstyle should be enough proof, kids like spherical colourfull objects, give a 5 year old mario, and show him ARMA 2, he will go to mario.

So you don't have any proof. Newsflash I see more 12 and 13 year old play games like GTA than I see them play Mario.

Call of Duty and most console FPSs are much more pick-up-and-play than Mario games. All my casual friends do just that. They cannot make it through a Mario level, but can play the hell out of a FPS, and they play no other games.

Seems unlikely to me, but sure if thats your experience. For me, a non gamer gets run and jump instantly. Explaining the two sticks and dozen+ buttons of COD is far more of a challenge.

With FPSs, you just run around in circles and shoot at people, anyone can do that. Non gamers and casuals can't make the difficult jumps required to make it through a platforming level. All my life I've had friends try to play the Mario platformers, and they just don't have the skill, but they could all pick up a FPS and start shooting. None of them had the patience required to get anywhere in a Zelda game either, they'd just wander around aimlessly for a few minutes then quit.

They do indeed, its called a difficulty curve. But the controls and mechanics are simple to grasp at start.

If my definition is so flawed, I'd love to hear your one. I'll start you off. "The defintion of a casual game is....."

What on Earth are you talking about? Sales have nothing to do with how casual a game is. And even if it did... you are arguing that Galaxy (8ish million sales) isn't casual but Gears (5ish million sales) is? Wtf? Be consistent love ;)

the problem is unlike wii sports or mini game collectiions like that, Mario games actually have SOME depth to them.

Over the years, my wife has watched me play loads of games.

The only ones she ever felt like trying out were : party games (a la Wii Sports), Mario Kart, and many fps games.

The first fps game she tried out was TimeSplitters 2, it didn't take her too long to figure out how to play, and didn't take too long for her to become a threat to other human players in local multiplayer.

Since then, she has played a few Medal of Honor and Call of Duty games with me. She even joined me online in Goldeneye (Wii). On the other hand, she always found games like Metroid too complicated for a novice like her, and after trying out Mario Sunshine she gave up because she found it too hard, even with me next to her, giving advice.

I didn't manage to convince her to give Mario Galaxy 1&2 a try.

So really, people trying to dismiss Nintendo games as being for "casuals" (if my wife isn't a casual, who on earth is?) shouldn't use fps games as a counter example. Fps games are one of the easiest genre to get into, in my experience (and I HAVE convinced a number of so-called "casuals" to join me for festive fps sessions).

[QUOTE="LastRambo341"] Galaxy gets difficult and so is NSMBW. They're easy to get into but it gets difficult Again, your definition is flawed. If Halo, Gears and COD are so complex then they wouldn't sell more than 10 million or so, right?Shinobishyguy

Yeah I know. God I always go in circles in these threads, same arguments every time....

* There is no such thing as a casual game * Ya it does lol Gears and Galaxy cater to both audiences

Yes there absolutely is. If you don't think so, file under your "Mario Galaxy could be done on Atari 2600" part of your mind ;)

Most the big action games on the 360 are not played by adults. They're easy to pick up mindless fun. That why kids enjoy them. Back on topic though, since no one else is, yes the ps3 and 360 can out sell the wii. Nintendo will prolly release a new console soon, leaving the wii with low sales while the ps3 and 360 continue to sell.

No, the PS3 and 360 won't catch the Wii, especially when Nintendo drops it's price at E3, at the very least the Wii will be an over 100 million console.

It's so funny watching these teenagers complain about Casual and Hardcore... Well COD on the PS3 or 360 is NOT hardcore... In fact most FPS games are dumbed down console ports of PC games.. The PC is for HARDCORE FPS players, the console versions are just dumbed down for teenagers and non technical young adults the "Madden Crowd"

The competition has no chance of beating the Wii in sales, and the Wii has no chance of beating the competition when it comes to number of high quality games.

This pretty much ends the debate... IMHO. but it's still an opinion.. :P
