I dont see MANY people willing to learn the end and outs just to use Linux.
poeple like the ease of windows, you would need to learn linux CLI in order to use many of its functions
[QUOTE="virtuas"][QUOTE="virtuas"]is there a company rich enough to challege ms' OS business. I want to see competitive business in this area and i want someone like an oil company challenge them. i would love to see that company compete not with innovation because that doesnt work, but compete with money. Ms is not good with competition, but they have money and thats how they succeed.SpruceCaboose
great point.
i want to see samsung enter the OS and gaming business. They are good at what they do.
Did you just quote yourself to agree?

lol forgot to sign into your alt account? Anyway with the monopoly microsoft has in the OS market and their endless pockets i doubt we'll see a true challenge.
Its been happening for years, its just people are too lazy to learn a new OS. You have Red Hat, Ubuntu, and Mac OS. All of those are leaps and bounds better than Windows.VasichkoIve used and had Ubuntu, and Mac OS X.
Neither are better then Windows.

lol what? im on linux right now and its just as easy to use as windows for the average person.Linux is only really an option to none gamers; its game support is very limit. This being a gaming forum I don't know why so many people are bringing it up.AnnoyedDragonUbuntu's game support is actually pretty good if you use Wine.

lol what? im on linux right now and its just as easy to use as windows for the average person. Is that a joke? It's easy for IM and internet surfing but certain things like installing basic drivers can be a major task for the average Joe.

If it was any good then people would take Linux seriously as a gamer OS; which they don't.

No kidding, I tried to update flash on a EEE PC one time and it required consoles and crap. What's wrong with a damn executable auto install?
If it was any good then people would take Linux seriously as a gamer OS; which they don't. AnnoyedDragonIt is good, people just don't know much about Wine.

yeah they would need to know CLI commands and i doubt the avreage guy or girl would want to type commands for things like updating drivers and what not

wine is sick but some of the games like bioshock has problems working properly

Well duh, its not like its going to be 100% accurate. But the vast majority of games for Windows do run on Wine.Just out of curiosity, had anyone here heard anything recent regarding Oracle's OS that's meant to challenge Windows? I thought it was supposed to release this year.mattbbpl
Oracle? New operating system? Meant to challenge Windows? I am intrigued, tell me more!

lol what? im on linux right now and its just as easy to use as windows for the average person.Don't be silly. Try getting it to do everything windows does, as well as windows does without problems. It's a lose/lose situation, even if it is possible it's not something the average joe is willing to go through.
Windows being dominant is a good thing, hell any OS being dominant is good, if we had various OS about it'd make things a lot trickier for your average joe. Ialso don't get the point in this topic, no,there is no one to properly compete with MS.
You have Mac and Linux but eh..they just..exist. There not a threat and Microsoft could put an end to them, they have the means they'd just get sued into the ground.
