I have all 3 systems, and I grew up with Nintendo, Sony, and Sega. Both Sony and Nintendo have rich histories in gaming. Sony has talented devs and always come up with groundbreaking titles. I never hesitate to buy a Playstation console each gen cause I know I'll get quality titles. Nintendo has the characters we grew up with, however, Nintendo isn't what they used to be back in the SNES era. Nintendo seems to be afraid to push other franchises besides Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. However, they still have their own charm and I can see why they have fans. What has Xbox given us to remember besides Halo and Gears? I mean most of its good games are on PC. Games? Seriously, they have 2 of my favorite games this gen; Dead Rising (1) and Crackdown.

Puckhog04

Dead Rising is also on Wii if you haven't noticed... Might want to scratch that off your list.

As if those are 360 exclusive games.

jakarai

did you know that if he made a list of high scoring 360 exclusives that it would be longer than either the ps3 or the wii?

How about AAAE and AAAAE according to Gamespot?

why just those? :?

PS3 and 360 ports to the Wii should NOT be considered multiplats since its baisicly a totally different experience. so no, there will not be any list scratching today chief! ;)

I like my 360 because of Gears of War and Mass Effect. And because I can play them and all the amazing multiplats this gen having paid significantly less than if I had bought its main competitor. The failure rate and paid online are its weak points, though. But I can live with them.

MS don't care about makign you feel nostalgic. They don't care if 20 year from now you pick up an Xbox and think "Wow, i had so much fun"

They care about your money, as do all buisness'

SONY and NINTENDO just go about it another way, they seek it through the heart, whereas MS through the mind.

You by a Playstation or Wii cause you have fond memories of times past. You buy an Xbox 'cause in the long run it makes sense.

I almost threw up. Your logic is appalling.

you do realise MS where making games for the PC a long, long time before SONY even introduced there first console, so therefore MS has a richer history in gaming than SONY does right? epic fail my friend, do your research next time what the hell, i quoted the TC, my comment was aimed at kingbob

Why would MS try to come up with more characters ? If you got one that makes a ton of money for you and can coast, I guess they figure why not ? Not my cup of tea and a reason I don't want a 360 but to each their own.

Sega entered the gaming business back in the 80's believe it was 1986/87 while sony entered the gaming market back in 1994/95...

I miss SEGA considering i had most of their systems like Master system, Megadrive,Gamegear, Nomad & Dreamcast, but surely Sony owes nothing to SEGA.. unfortunately both PS1 & PS2 destroyed SEGA's consoles in terms of support & quality/quantity as regards games libraries..

On topic:- I got a 360 last year mainly cause i wanted to play some exclusives which were available at the time + upcoming ones.. 360 has a great games library and that should be enough for people to get the console..

I think people are fans of the xbox more for the reason that it's the best gaming console on the market. I mean, it's not so much the memorable characters as it is the fact that the xbox has more games, better games, better online, and just more overall awesomeness. It edges out the ps3, because really they're both mostly the same thing except the xbox has a lot of crappy fps and rpg-lite games as exclusives, and ps3 has lots of boring japanese cutscene exclusives. But multiplats tend to run better on the 360, and it's got a lot of great games that ps3 doesn't have.

And the wii is just, well, ridiculous. I mean, I can count the number of actually good games released for the wii on one hand. No, three fingers. Why people even buy it is baffling.

Does that answer your question?

Out of curiosity, what would be your top 5 consoles? I think that this generation of consoles is pretty good. A lot has to do with online gaming. Yes, last gen had online gaming, but it wasn't as fully supported as it is this generation. And I may not own a Wii, but for what it's done for gaming I'd suspect that it could make it into a top 5 list. I know for certain that the SNES would be in my top 5. I'm not sure which consoles would fill the other 4 spots. I'm thinking that the PS1 deserves to be in there too though.

Anyways, on topic,

The three biggest reasons (currently) I see from people is:

1) Community, its an odd thing, but just like wow, it's success is driven by the success it already has. That is the biggest driving factor, when you get a 360 (in the US at least) you will likely find more people around with 360s than ps3s. PSN is constantly improving and is only a cross-game voice chat patch away from being on par with XBL in technical prowess, but the community is so strong that XBL feels better because there are more people.

2) Halo Franchise, people like it. Who can blame them, it has good replayability and it takes advantage of 1) with online play.

3) Library of Games. This was 1) for the first couple years of this gen, but as Sony has caught up the new 1) took over. There are still games, just like any other console, that this console has exclusively and it is a game that someone may really want to be able to play.

I'm a fan of games not of consoles so I guess my answer to your question would be "no". I love Gears of War, Dead Rising, Crackdown, Kameo, etc. though so I also love the fact that I own a 360. I don't really love the console itself though because it's just a tool so that I can enjoy those great games. Seems to be a philosophical question.

WTF TC you are obviously an Xbox hater. PGR, Forza, Halo, Fable, Gears Of War, Viva Pinata all are great games. What is the reason to be a PS3 fan ? KZ2, Uncharted 1-2 and Gran Turismo are the only games that interest me on the PS3 but if you prefer PS3 games good for you.

No need to rag on the Xbox though it has some great games.

Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, Halo Wars, Halo Reach. That's six.

  1. Metal Gear
  2. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
  3. Metal Gear Solid
  4. Metal Gear Solid Intergral
  5. Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions
  6. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty
  7. Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
  8. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
  9. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance
  10. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
  11. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
  12. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

...Yeah. Metal Gear has double that count. But if you want to get technical, there's also 2 Metal Gear games on the MSX, making it 14. Oh wait, forgot Metal Gear Rising. That's 15. :)

yes. everybody knows that all those pc/360 probably wouldnt exist w/o the 360 cuz alot of devs wont just support the pc on account of sales being much lower. without the xbox then we most likely wouldnt have gears, halo, mass effect, splinter cell, fable, forza, a modern ninja gaiden, and lots of other games. plus, like it or not, but ms really paved the way for how we all played online with our consoles. which changed the way we played our games in general. like it or not, but MS did help the video game industry. and they are the only ones preventing sony from being the only hardcore hd console.and vice versa.

Microdevine

why would those games have simply not existed? they'd just have ended up on sony's or nintendo's systems...and some you listed even have. :?

Too bad microsoft is going to be fully supporting the console market ie 360/720 rather than the PC market. The writing is on the wall

Stats_

Point 1. i would beg to differ on this point. Project Natal will definatly offer something new and fun that niether nintendo nor sony has done thus giving you a memorable experience you probably wont forgot years down the line. since i havent tried it yet i cant really speak on it much aside from what ive read in the mags. also i personally have JUST as much fun with my 360 as i do with my wii and ps3 (ps3 and 360 more than the wii though)

Point 2. well i guess i kinda covered it in point one!

[QUOTE="iKINGBOBi"] it pioneered online console gaming and has more than halo. they are opening a new in house dev for natal, and they are now partners with Remedy. I see some pretty cool games in the futuremayceV
[QUOTE="mayceV"][QUOTE="iKINGBOBi"]

Halo is the only good game on 360 this year. Why isn't MS trying to create new and talented studios? It seems they only rely on Halo and Multiplats. Microsoft has like no characters to remember besides Master Chief:? When do you guys think MS will try to create their own legacy instead of being the multiplat playing me-too console that just happens to play Halo?

Since 360 is one of the best systems ever i se no reason not to be an Xbox fan. Well, maybe for a fanboy it wouldnt be so clear...

Whaaaaaa? No current gen systems would break the top 5 list of consoles.

I'm thinking that the PS1 deserves to be in there too though.

i think its all a matter of opinion but my top 5 are Super Nintendo Sega Dreamcast PS1 360 PS3/PS2 i had to make it a tie because they both deserve to be in the top 5 to me sega saturn would be a very close 6th place

True, though credit must be given to Microsoft for truly bringing online gaming to consoles.

Halo 2 really showed everyone how awesome it is to get teabagged by someone thousands of miles way :o

How many Halo games are there? How many MGS games are there? Just wondering.

Well it comes down to what you like. I like Fable and L4D, ME, Crackdown as well. Also this year I enjoyed Ninja Blade. It wasn't AAA level but I guess I just look to have a good time and it was a good game, hence the 7.5=good. Looking forward to ME2, SC: Conviction, Alan Wake, Fable 3. Yeah I am an Xbox fan, as well as a fan of my PS3 and Wii.

hmmm im no halo fan. but, counting halo reach that would be the 7th halo themed game.

Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo ODST, Halo Wars, Halo Reach. That's six.

  1. Metal Gear
  2. Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake
  3. Metal Gear Solid
  4. Metal Gear Solid Intergral
  5. Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions
  6. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty
  7. Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance
  8. Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
  9. Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistance
  10. Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops
  11. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker
  12. Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots

...Yeah. Metal Gear has double that count. But if you want to get technical, there's also 2 Metal Gear games on the MSX, making it 14. Oh wait, forgot Metal Gear Rising. That's 15. :)

and sony will milk metal gear solid? whats your point? and dont forget the halo sidescroller :P

I do. It was a fun game. It's such a stress free hobby when I gave up comparing games and just played them.

They did start the whole online thing. PSN would be at the level it was in about 07 now if not for MS and LIVE. We do have MS to thank for that and thats all I plan on thanking MS for in the forseeable future.
