I'm not sure if $100 price drop for the xbox360 is going to switch things back around to the good old days before the ps3 price drop and E3 2007. Anyway its looking like Dreamcast 2 by 2008 or 2009 then xbox720 by 2010 if MS doesn't come up with something to respond to sony. MS was good at kicking sony while they were down but now that the tables are turned MS isn't doing too well and I don't see them standing their ground against sony. It doesn't seem like MS is going to gain the advantage again that they had during the first few months of the ps3. If I didn't own a console I still wouldn't buy an xbo360 for $300 but I might buy it at $200.

Now that I think about it if MS would of kept the core system and lowered the price on it by $100 they might have a pretty legit shot. If MS doesn't charge for online gaming and lowers the system price by $100 it seems like they still might have a chance at turning things around but something tells me that free online will be something that will never exist for xbox360 owners.

And how the hell do you know how things will fare for the 360 when/if there is a price-drop?

Why buy an xbox360 for $300 and then pay for online for 4 years and it cost $200 more which brings the price to $500? Why not buy the ps3 at that price and just assume you play with the console for more than 4 years and that saves you more money in the long run and not to mention you have a much more reliable console and very possible better games to choose from in the future.

Not to mention the fact that it has been what, a week since E3? So, MS has been having bad news for about 2 weeks max. Cows sure didn't have any trouble sticking with Sony through bad news since launch. I find it amusing that a short streak of bad luck on MS's part spells doom.

The 360 is still winning (though the Wii is obviously going to pass it). The PS3 is the console that needs "saving".

Lol - MS doesn't need to 'turn things around'. Sony would give their right arm to have the position MS has now.

The 360 is the most sold console this generation and has a killer fall lineup - one of the best ever for any console - including several blockbusters. A price drop is only the icing on the cake - personally I don't think that it's necessary at all at this point.

don't you think you're predicting just a tad bit too much doom and gloom for the 360 just because the ps3 outsold it for one week by six thousand after a price drop?

Incredibly obvious answer: people like 360 games and controllers :o Need me to do any basic arithmetic while I'm at it?

Tell me again, how have the tables turned???? LMAO, delusional cow.

Ps3 is now selling more units in the US than the Xbox360 is and ps3 is definitely selling more consoles around the world than the xbox360.

What does MS have to turn around? Xbox 360 is beating PS3 in software sales 2 to 1. MS has already sold much more hardware than PS3 and it's still cheaper. If anything, Sony needs to make a REAL price drop and not a "GOING OUT OF STOCK" sale.

Unless they release totally redesigned reliable hardware (65nm chip, power brick internal) then they're going nowhere. $100 price cut would help very little at this point. There's absolutely no point of MS staying in the business if the only way they can keep Xbox afloat is to pour money into it.

My guess is they'll try a couple things this holiday and if everything fails to propel 360 forward they will just completely pull out of the game industry early next year or early 2008. Sony has them beat hands down in hardware, value, and future games and Nintendo captured the casuals.

The Sony guys are excited by a modest sales bump due to the price drop. I wonder how they'll react to the dominance that the 360 will demonstrate in August, Sept, Oct, Nov, and Dec? PS3 doesn't have a single game on par with the 360 lineup.

Well, maybe some of us actually care about the games... And the options in/quality of the online service.

I don't think there is anyway for Microsoft to save Xbox360, thats why Robbie Bach sold 6.2 million in stocks, Peter Moore left, and there won't be any X07.

Hey TC: There was no price drop, just the start of a clearance sale.

If the success of the PS3 is so dependant upon dropping to $500, what'll happen when they run out of 60 gig models? Then what?

The question is...Is the 360 in trouble? Sure, we've seen some bad media events and the design problem is out in the open, however, the 360 has a pretty darn good attach rate for games and quite a few million sellers. Not to mention the fact that the 360 is backed by MS which has loads of money. As of right now I don't know what will happen but I doubt MS will just bow out.

I want a cow to explain to me exactly what 360 needs to be saved from. PS3 has so far been the one who needed saving, and just because Sony finally starts acting like it wants the PS3 to succeed they think that 360 is going to lose automatically?

All of the games that cows are so excited about aren't even coming out until 2008, with the exception of Heavenly Sword. All of the games that Microsoft featured in their 2007 E3 conference are coming out this holiday season. What are PS3 sales going to look like the months Halo 3, Mass Effect and Bioshock come out?

(Not to mention the fact that you can still pay less for a 360 and get Assassin's Creed, Grand Theft Auto IV and Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat).

Peter Moore seems like a pretty smart guy when he was on stage giving his presentation at E3. However, some of the other people seemed like voice recorders just saying things exactly from a piece of paper as they were up on stage but Peter Moore gave a really good presentation at E3 just based off of how he presented things.

Hey TC: There was no price drop, just the start of a clearance sale.

If the success of the PS3 is so dependant upon dropping to $500, what'll happen when they run out of 60 gig models? Then what?

Ibacai

Drop the 80gb (which will most likely be cheaper to produce) to $499?

But will they really do that? Will Sony really drop the price of that SKU only a month or two after it his shelves? I'm really skeptical of that. But the alternative is going through the holiday season with only a $600 SKU, and that's no good.

Simply put, MS has problems, but Sony has more, and this "price drop" isa quick-fix that won't last long, not some brilliant panacea.

[QUOTE="Verge_6"]And how the hell do you know how things will fare for the 360 when/if there is a price-drop? odin2019

Why buy an xbox360 for $300 and then pay for online for 4 years and it cost $200 more which brings the price to $500? Why not buy the ps3 at that price and just assume you play with the console for more than 4 years and that saves you more money in the long run and not to mention you have a much more reliable console and very possible better games to choose from in the future.

this argument again? Wowww, you must REALLY feel insecure with your ps3. I'd gladly pay 7 cents a day for XBL. It's worth it.

And it seems like all the cows got together and decided that the 360 is on the verge of being erased from the universe, and that they would post 5 topics a minute about, "what will save the 360?!!??!?!?!"

The 360 is still in the lead, with the largest library, most diverse games, and a very nice holiday line up. The 360 and it's owners will be just fine, thanks for the concern though.

All of the games that cows are so excited about aren't even coming out until 2008, with the exception of Heavenly Sword. All of the games that Microsoft featured in their 2007 E3 conference are coming out this holiday season. What are PS3 sales going to look like themonths Halo 3, Mass Effect and Bioshock come out?djord02
Uhhh, none of the games?? Uncharted lair Socom Ratchet and Clank Warhawk Tekken 6 GT Prologue Folklore And those just being the exclusives. I can't be the only person excited for those.

Well, maybe some of us actually care about the games... And the options in/quality of the online service.

You'd eat crap just because it's free, wouldn't you? I wouldn't.

I care about the games too and thats exactly why I'm a ps3 owner. As for the online there is nothing better than a free good quality online service.

Didn't you just say that the PS3 had no good quality games? Why would you have one now if there are no really good games for it, and you care about the games?

I guess your a little behind on the times I suggest you check out E3 2007 the sony part of the show. Its pretty self explanatory.

What changed at E3? What big new games were announced for the PS3? From what I can remember, almost all of the games shown at E3 2007 during Sony's conference were games we already knew were coming out...

Yes, it's possible that Sony will not drop the price but it would be the smart move because they'll still be losing less money. Just an educated guess really.

Everytime people use this tactic, I lose just that much more faith in humanity. Seriously, stop.

i did that with my 360 for a whole year until finally GEOW came out :).

1. I wouldn't admit that.

2. Delete some of the posts that you quoted. The rule is no more than 5. I will report you otherwise.
