Like I said on the PS board,
It's The Playstation 3 Motorstorm Edition.

last time sony refused to fix the DDE in the ps2...
now they refuse to fix their ps3...
if sony can find a way to stick-it to their customers, they will find it..... :(
they could learn a few things from MS about how to stand behind your consoles...

LOL....you mean lie about the failure rate till every news station and web blog complains about your system to the point where there is a pending possibility where the systems might get recalled or they may get sued. Then you offer a THREE year warranty.
Yea thatsa much better idea then Sony actually doing what they did this gen and just building a system that has a very low failure rate. Its obvious that the PS3 was neglected to an exteme and it is a strong possibility that whatever is in that system could be harmful to someone if they inhail. Its the owners fault.
Oh and my PS2 was fixed for free by SOny with DRE. They did fix it.
You could probably touch it up enough to get repaired.
I don't know their warranty policy about PS3 and I don't really care either.
I'm just saying, could they tell if you cleaned off that abomination you call of a PSTriple?
jesus, that person paid $600 for that and let it get into that bad of shape?Hat_DamageMaybe he's spent the past few months playing his 360 and just forgot that he owned a PS3.
It could as well be a set up, I really can't figure how it could gather that much dust without a helping hand.
Teh conspiracy!

If you ever been out to the southern part of the US... Like Arizona, Nevada and other places. You would know the ground is like dust and pebbles. Anyone with a carpet out there better vacuum all the time. :P
[QUOTE="Hat_Damage"]jesus, that person paid $600 for that and let it get into that bad of shape?xX0LDSCH00LXxMaybe he's spent the past few months playing his 360 and just forgot that he owned a PS3.Then that person has a terrible memory.
Sony shouldn't repair it - it is clearly a case of user neglect. If that much dust was on the console case, think about how much dust is inside the console too. The problems the user is having are probably a direct result of the poor treatment of his PS3. I mean, come on, there's what looks like sand inside the USB ports. These last few weeks, I haven't even bothered dusting my PS3, and it's not even remotely close to that mess - in fact, with the level of lighting in my room, you could pass it off as brand new.
I wish MS didn't have such a huge reason to stand behind their consoles.I'd prefer better build quality..Here we go again..

I am not defending the PS2s problem because that was not cool either but Sony learned from that and built a solid system using new tech, which in most cases is less stable. There is no reason why MS should be having these problems, they have the PS2 as an example which is why they caved before the inevitable lawsuit and they arent using amaziningly new tech, just more powerful.
I wouldn't of fixed it either, because more than likely it was users fault. The person who sent it in obviously did not take care of the unit. Plus they didn't take 5 minutes to get a damp cloth and wipe it off before sending it in. Who's house honestly gets that dusty? Does the guy live in a tent in the desert and homeless?

They fixed the PS2's under the same conditions that MS fixed the 360.If your 360 was under warrantee they fixed it for free. Sony would not and will not fix any PS2 out of warrantee for free. no..sony did not fix every ps2 for free until after they got sued.... it's not like they proactively did anything...they were FORCED to.. and to this day they STILL refuse to publicly comment about their culpability....
the 360 is the FIRST console to ever cram 3 processors in a small box... brand new technology..there was problems...but ms PROACTIVELY stood behind their product at THEIR expense...

[QUOTE="player_leo"][QUOTE="majadamus"][QUOTE="PS3Compass"]Umm...wow. I clean my PS3 every week and would never let it look like that.Javy03
I dust my PS3 off everyday...but, still that thing could've probably been fixed.
You really dust your PS3? Thats a little anal. Well maybe if it was used to play games instead of a center peice maybe dust wouldn't gather on it. PS3 owners know about this. Xbox owers don't have to dust cause they actully play games on it so there is no time for dust to gather. Dust gathers on my picture frames cause I don't move them, are you saying that your PS3 is equivalent to a picture frame, just something to be looked at.
But to answerthe question, Yes Sony has the right to refuse this console. Who knows what kind of dust this is or where it came from. It could be asbestos, it could have mold. I myself have asthma, and this console screams asthma attack. If the system needs to be fixed because the dust got into the circuits then that would be user error / user misuse, and you would have to flip the bill not Sony. It's almost the same as me dumping a PS3 in some toilet water and saying "Is this to wet to be repaired under warranty? Think about it.
Dude EVERYTHING gathers dust. Its not like your consoles jumps around as you play video games it stays stationary all the time. I mean TVs gather tons of dust and they get used more then any other electronic out there. Using doesnt stop it from gather dust, you just have to maintain it.
True and electronics attract dust due in put to static electricity. But the 360 has more games for more interaction with the console. Here's an example: Say I'm playing Halo3, I done playing and feel like playing say PGR4. I would walk up to the system take Halo out, and pop PGR4 in. While I'm at the 360 I can give it a quick little dusting. When I'm done with that say I want to play Viva Pinata, I walk up to the system and do the same thing over again.
The PS3 owners don't have as many games. Most owners only have like one or two. So they would play a game, get bored or beat it, then instead of being able to put in another game they would just turn off the system. They don't get much console interaction. They are left there to think "Wait Till 2008". By then there would be plenty of dust on it.

LOL...that is your example. Ok number one the whole myth that the PS3 doesnt have any games is bogus, It has many of the 360s best games and a few exclusives of its own that all though GS might not like them are far from bad. Remember in the real world gamers dont go to EB games and say is that game AAA, oh then let me put it back. Gamers play AAA, AA, A, and way below games all the time. There are plenty of quality multiplat and exclusive games for the PS3. To say there isnt is just play fanboyism, heck an A game is still considered "good" under the score guidline.
As for the example you gave, if life only worked like that but alas it doesnt. If constant contact made people clean there would be dirty rooms with clothes on the floor or ditry kitchens. Some people just dont take care of their stuff. I have tons of electronics and just items that are left untouched and even with my neglect they cant even come close to the kind of dirt that system has.

The ps3 has a low software-to-console attach ratio...NOWHERE NEAR the 360's..
so, i guess millions of ps3 owners also found that the ps3 has very little to nothing to play on it...
no fanboyism...just facts... (that i'm sure you'll ignore)

http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/gaming/xbox-360-failure-rate-30-says-retailers-271487.php
"We always knew the Xbox 360 failure rate was high, but the only time Microsoft but any sort of solid numbers on the thing it was always somewhere around 5%."
Yea 5%, sure thats why they spend 1 billion to fix this error, because it was 5%.
They stood on the problem only because their gamers and the media threw it under their feet. Just because MS dogded a lawsuit doesnt mean they are any better, it means they just learned alittle from the PS2, unfortuntatly not enough to make a solid console, but enough to cover their butts.
The bottom line is 360s break when they shouldnt, especially for $400 dollars a pop. I am glad you are rooting for MS but I am rooting for the gamer who gains nothing from MS dogding a lawsuit and still has to wait 4 weeks for is system to play Halo 3.

(that i'm sure you'll ignore)
the dust has a lot to do with you live... the southwest is very dusty, whereas, the NE not as dusty...
Do you have a link to the attachment ratios?

altho, sony refuses to release them... for the same reason they refused PSX sales numbers... they arevery low...
the fact sony is already projecting ANOTHER year of losses should underscore this fact for you...
or the fact that the biggest ps3 hitters aren't selling well.... or the fact ps3 developers are giving up on the ps3 exclusives en masse due to the poor userbase and attach rates...
but hey...i MUST be lying...
i'll search if you want, but it won't be a sony released number so you won't take it as credible...
really tho; let's stay on topic... which is: The PS3 broke and sony refuses to fix it....

Are you telling me that when you play on your 360, you need to move it? I just eject the disk tray, but if waving it around enhances the fun you have, please continue to do so.

When and why would someone move their gaming console? Its not a handheld ya know. Plus theres nothing anal about dusting off your electronics or anything for that matter.
Sorry let me clear that up. Dust gathers on my picture frames because I don't "TOUCH" them. I'm implying that PS3 owners don't 'touch' their systems because there are no games to put in it. Plus you're right not anal to dust their PS3 every week, I ment to quote the guy who said they dust their PS3 'EVERYDAY'. To dust something you don't use everyday is ANAL.
You guys saying Sony is shady know that dust on electronic components causes buildup of static electricity and increases the risk for electric discharge right?
Why do you think that data centers have so many filters in the air units? To protect the stuff from koodies?

electronics gather dust when they are used because it intakes air to keep cool, and dust is the air. If you dont dust and vacume your 360 you will have problems just as you would if you dont clean out the dust from your computer
I saw the article on consumerist last night, and was bored enough to read through a lot of the comments too.
But after seeing the PS3, that's a lot of dust. I have no idea what the person did, but that's just wrong. That thing should have been cleaned off from time-to-time. I did with my PS2, granted its just sitting right in the open. I've had it five years without a problem.
We now have pictures of the Playstation 3 that Sony refused to repair under warranty because the unit was too dusty. Sony originally claimed that the pictures would not be released without a subpoena, and that the dust presented a threat to their technician's health that could only be alleviated if our tipster paid $150. After our posts, Sony abruptly reversed course and released the pictures to our tipster. Sony's letter, the pictures, and our poll, after the jump.
Thank you for contacting us regarding our Warranty policy as it pertains to the condition of your PLAYSTATION 3 console. After consultation with legal counsel, SCEA has determined that the photographs of your console as returned to our service center are neither confidential nor private. Consequently, we may lawfully release these photographs to you. Because the photographs are not confidential, we may also release them to media who inquire about your recent internet postings concerning the console.

That still makes no sense, why would I touch my PS3 other then the power and eject button? heck now I dont even need to touch either since I have the option to do both with the controller.
I hate Sony and I hate the PS3...but I ABSOLUTELY COMMEND SONY for refusing to touch this thing.
Either the person who sent it in did it on purpose, or it's been so horribly neglected that anything that might be wrong with it was probably caused by the person himself through negligence.
If I could meet the owner of this PS3, I'd smack him in the mouth and tell him to go clean his room.
