Ok so it's pretty simple the Wii's killing at the moment. How is it going to last though? The PS2 was and still is much bigger than the Wii but that came out in 2000 it has had almost an 8 year run and yeah it's a weak system now but when it first came out it wasn't. It may have been the weakest of the 3 last gen but it could still hold its ground with games like God of war and could be ported to and from easily.

Now can you really see the Wii being around in 2014? Its power was already outdated by the time it launched by 2014 the other consoles would have blown past it(Hell crysis will be looking ugly by then)meaning it won't be getting any multiplats, but ok lets say a new one is made in 2010...wait that's only 4 years! Half the life span of the PS2. Will people really want to be forking out for another wii by which time the wiimotes would have surely faded.

In 2014 the PS3 and 360 will have their successors meaning they will be very cheap and easy to pick up and if this gen has taught them anything the priceof the next gen systems won't be anywhere close to $599.

The PS2 had a lot going for it. Early release, most powerful at launch, DVD player; a new format which had next to no opposition and was a much bigger leap than dvd > HD-DVD/BR is and didn't need a TV most people don't own, the brand name alone, very strong 3rd party support.

The Wii has, a cheap price(for now), late release, weak 3rd part support, smart advertising and a name that sticks out from the croud(the 1# reason it's selling, just like ipods) and a gimmicky controller that is awfully underused by a lot of games(*wiggle wiggle*).

Now as I see it the PS2 built up and up and up and went out on a VERY high note where as the Wii seems like the 'it' toy for now but when it starts aging badly it'll start to fall. More of a 'the candle that burns brightest' kinda thing.

What will it be next for nintendo? The Wii 2? Nah too lame, infact they'll need to get a completely new name and sty le out to keep it fresh and the 'it'toy.

I could be completely wrong with this, it could keep selling until 2020 for all I know but this is out I see it. Sony(while I'm not a fan of them) made some very smart choices with the PS1 and PS2 and came out on top. The Wiialso made some smart choices butmore of the marketing side of things which in my opinionis a majorlongevity flaw.

Agree? Disagee? Think I'm a blind cow even though I've never owned a PS2 or 3? Discuss.

It really depends on whether or not the casuals get bored of the system. The traditional Nintendo fans will support the Wii for as long as Nintendo keeps making games for them, but casuals may change their minds once the PS3 and 360 start to get bigger games like GTAIV and what not.

Who knows though...the DS was called a fad and it's lasted ages, and will keep going for a long time. Same thing could happen with the Wii.

The whole thing the Wii has going for it is the family attraction and the "casual" market. These two markets, in my opinion, won't care about graphics as much as others. I don't think it will last as long as the Ps3, but I do feel it will have quick the legs under it.

That's different though. The DS only has 1 other system that can even get close to it and that system has bad games, high pricetag and a failed movie format.

As it stands right now the Wii only has one other system that can even get close ot it... though that system has awsome games.

Oh well, maybe developers will stop looking down on the Wii and start really supporting.

That's honestly how I would describe the PS3...though to a lesser extent.

At least there is still the 360 to compete with...in NA at least.

Yes but home systems are different to handheld. Halo 3, GTA4, Final Fantasy, MGS4and other games that are big casuals games will boost sales a lot. The DS has a much better list of games than the PSP where as the Wii has the weakest of the 3(4 including pc). The DS is doing what the PS2 did but the Wii is...something else.

Except PS3 has good games and a leading next-gen movie format.

Sorry, goblaa.

Sony doesn't make the wii. Nintnedo does, and nintendo replace their consoles every 5 years. Expect the wii 2 in 2011-2012, along with the PS4 and xbox720.

Casual gamers introduced now will turn into more "hardcore" gamers, and Nintendo's userbase will grow even larger. So no, imo, it will last for ages.

How come everyone seems to assume that the next Nintendo console will be far weaker than the competition, and will only be a Wii 2.

Nintendo has promised that their next system will have HD, and surely they will have to do something to stay ahead of the competition. While Microsoft and Sony are content with making improvements to what we already have, Nintendo is trying to stay ahead of the game by making things that we've never seen before, and surely that will carry on to their next system.

It's one of the biggest variables in this war, honestly nobody knows. I predict a new console by or before 2010.

You, sir, do not understand how casuals think. They want something that looks cool and is also approachable. A game like God of War is way too complicated looking to the ultra-casual crowd.

By 2014 we will already been well into the Next Gen, and no one will care all that much about the PS3 or the XBox 360. They'll have the same, "You know, this console had some pretty good games for its reputation" topics that the Game Cube and XBox are getting right now.

LoL, were you purposefully trying to draw comparisons of the PSP and PS3, or was that an accident, and this is the worst self ownage of all time?

So, if I just put that smiley, I would get moded. Since that "lol" smiley PERFECTLY responds to the cows ludcrious claims, I feel the rest of this post is just taking up space. Lets instead, talk about how cows are by far the least intelligent forum goers on this site, with the exception of Phoebus, and even he, often ownes himself with unthoughtout rhetoric. Cows are also the least tolerant, and most prone to attack other systems. Its unfortunate that the failure of the PSP and PS3 at Nintendo's feet, has led them to this bitter, unwinnable argument they now call system wars.

I'm just saying the PS2 lasted 8 years and that is one reason why casuals loved it they hate to change consoles(look at the PS3) and the Wii will have to change it 4 years or so. Half the life span of the PS2 and if they don't make a new 'cool' image for the next one it'll bomb like the PS3 did and someone else will take over as leader.
