I mean, will Wii-U be the one taking on a war versus the PS4 and the new Xbox?

Yes it is. A generation isn't defined by power.carlisledavid79
Yes that was proved with the Wii beating the PS3 and the 360..
Uh, yeah. Whether people like it or not, and derail it as they please, it's a next-gen system, one way or another.nintendoboy16
Don't get me wrong, I find the Wii-U to be pretty amusing.
I really don't understand what the Wii U is supposed to achieve or who it's marketed at. It can't even compete with the 360/PS3 never mind next gen consoles.
Â
Nintendo are so far behind the curve with what a modern gaming/entertainment machine should be it's scary.
Â
I will no doubt get one when the 1st party games roll out but other than that I can't see me using it for anything else.
I'll explain it... IT is nintendo's Next Gen console however...... it is not a Next Gen console. As we can see.. next gen takes a leap further in games... where the WiiU can't reach. So HA! for all of those that said the WiiU was the beginning of the Next gen.. what does it look like now ? nothing happened :|
[QUOTE="fernandmondego_"]It's 8th gen, PS4 and 720 are 9th gen.lundy86_4
No.
farmainmendango is the clown of this thread. Haha.Yes.Â
W1NGMAN-
What generation it is doesn't matter its a under powered console with little to no hype from the mass market that isn't selling well and comes with a tablet as a controller and 32GB of storage... Also accompanied by a sluggish and slow UI/OS.
Right now we its classed as next generation just like the Wii was in its first year, eventually just like the Wii the Wii U will be considered a generation behind thanks to Nintendo's choice yet again to spend less on the internals of the console.
Wii U is next-gen by definition (it came after the Wii after all) but not by spirit.

Nintendo isn't really interested in competing with MS and Sony anymore, so it's hard to really assign generations at this point.
next gen is marketing word

Exactly.
WiiU is "next-gen" Nintendo system.
How it compares to other systems on the market is another question.
The problem with the Wii U is that it should have been launched a few years ago. Then it would have been more accepted as an innovative step forward.
Personally I don't class it as a 'next-gen' system, more of a lost opportunity.

Â
lets look at it this way. the wii was a repackaged gamecube with motion controls, yet it was people call it nextgen, it just doesn't make any sense to me. that why i rather nextgen console be defined by power instead of stupid gimmick that don't really add anything to the gaming experiance.
[QUOTE="BigBoss255"]Unfortunately yes, Nintendo actually think that's what a gamer in 2012 wants.BlabadonYou do realize that Nintendo got a huge number of people into gaming through the Wii? A gamer in 2012 may not be a gamer (I use the term loosely) if not for the WIi.
Â
BS those people that bought wii for motion controls bought it as an impulse buy, they thought it would be a fun way to exercise with family and have fun, most of those people played it, enjoyed it and now are done with gaming, the only games they really enjoy are silly games like wii sports or kinect animals, i could care less for those type of games. and don't care if they cease to exist.

You're entitled to your opinion...no matter how stupid or moronic it is.
The comparison of sales when all is said and done will be between Wii U, PS4, and the Next Xbox. Hence, all are next generation Consoles. Wii U isn't as powerful as the PS4 for sure, but it's still very powerful, roughly 2x as powerful as the Ps3/360. This is just getting old, generations aren't defined by hardware. They're defined by when a company releases a new Console.

Except most of those aren't "bitting" again...
It seems it's back to the GameCube times for Nintendo.

We'll see. No doubt they're lacking in sales a bit right now, but Nintendo hasn't released any of it's big name games yet either. Either way, they're making a profit on the Console selling so they'll be here the entire generation. This is what happened to the 3DS, No games...and then when they hit, it sold like hotcakes. But, it really is a shame that the GC got a bad reputation because I had so much fun with some of the games back then (RE Zero, Eternal Darkness, Starfox, etc.). It had fantastic games.
They bought the Wii to play the games on it, played the games on it, and either a) used it for something else besides gaming and/or put it away b) continued playing games like Wii Sports, which is still a damn game and/or went for some other game and system as well. The Wii was an excellent catalyst to gaming for a lot of people.Â

That's the damn problem, but Nintendo needs only to release quality games to get the Wii U rolling. Many people from all decades know Nintendo first before any other system in gaming, and like I said, the Wii was no different in introducing games to many. They know the Wii U is out there, they just need a better reason to buy it.Â
