Absolutely. Due to the game's popularity you will hear a whole lot of hate, but pay no attention. As someone who has put hundreds of hours into the game all I can say is that it's one of the most well thought-out and fun RPG experiences. It has incredible design, balancing and the game is an absolute behemoth of content. Seriously there are hundreds and hundreds of quests to under-go, dungeons to plunder with friends, places to explore, skills to learn, PvP battles to fight and oh god how the list goes on. In short, it's wonderful... check it out.

It's certainly worth giving a try. I wouldn't say it's a must-have for everyone, but there are certainly worse ways to blow $13/month (or whatever the hell it is these days).

only if want to take a chance at screwing up your job, school work, relationships, etc. I've seen it screw people up. (That said I have some friends that can play it in moderation)

No, Jonathan Blow has some interesting comments on it:

* You are a schlub that has nothing better to do than repeat repetitive, mindless actions.

* Skill and shrewdness don't count for much, all that matters is how much time you sink in.

* You don't need to do anything exeptional, because to feel good you must run the treadmill like everyone else.

I had one file that got to level 8, another at level 13, and two at level 3... It was pretty fun playing with my little brother, but I got tired of it quickly because the game moved at such a slow pace. The missions quickly became repetitive and boiled down to, "Run here, kill this, talk to this person, collect this." They didn't seem really original, and it took awhile before battles became interesting and actually required skill. I didn't get to a really high level, so maybe I shouldn't judge, but games shouldn't take that long to pick up... I would've probably bought one month (I did the ten free day trial.) if I hadn't gotten my PS3 right after the trial ended. Overall, I give it a 7/10. I'm kind of impatient, but I had some fun when I played with people I knew. When I was by myself it was really boring.

Yes. Even though I quit the game when Burning Crusade came out, I still played for around 2 years. Thats pretty decent for longevity.

Jonathan Blow also has one of the biggest ego's I've seen just because he made Braid. But thats beside the point. I don't play WoW anymore and I can't say its my favorite MMO, but all those comments he made there are bullcrap.

World of Warcraft kicks the **** of Braid. This guy should make a game that's actually fun before he criticizes anything else. I know everyone will disagree with me, but Braid really wasn't that good.

I liked Braid, but he acts like his creation is the best thing ever. Its a good platformer, but thats it.

You mean WoW: Wrath of the Witch King? World of Gandalf? Honestly. LOTR Online is like WoW but with Gandalf and less features.

I highly recommend it. Since I started playing it way way back, I have not gotten sick of it, and no other game interests me. My ps3 is for blu-ray and I recently sold my 360 and wii upon the release of lich king and left 4 dead for the pc. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND WOW.

I've heard on a couple of podcast that Burning Crusade and Litch King are really great. But then I also hear that you have to be at like a high character level to access this content and that the stuff before you get there is kinda crappy and really just grinding. That wouldn't be bad if I could do the crappy parts for free and then pay monthly for the good parts. Is the case. Litch King, from what I've heard, is like an amazing RPG story, but you have to be like level 60 or something to access it. How many months is that going to take to get that high a level? I'm not the type of person who can force themselves to play a game they don't like for like 4 hours a day for two weeks just to get to something great.

Only certain people will get anything out of it. I myself think it's a ripoff, since even many veteran players will admit that it's not that much fun.

well to be honest yes it is worth it but have one of your friends do refer a friend and see if they will lvl an alt character to 60 with u it makes the the lvl's fly by as u get triple xp when u lvl with your friends from refer a friend, but bad thing right now is there is this class called death knights which are extremely op and will get very annoying most of the time for lower lvl players. It is balanced to a point, but as i said with the addition of death knights now it is not so balanced. I use to play then quit. With the expansion i started to play again and now i have a lvl 74 warlock it can be very fun but it can also get extremely boring sometimes. so try it out and see if you like it the game is only 35 dollars to start playing and have 2 months play time.

Make sure you get one of your friends to recruit you if you do. The rewards for doing so are ridiculous. And you don't need to spend much on that new pc.

Burning Crusade also adds two new races and some new regions, both of which can be accessed right away. Not sure about WotLK though.

I've played Ultima, Everquest, City of Heroes, City of Villains, Guild Wars, WoW, WW2 online (Sadly), SMT Imagine, and SW Galaxies. Not that you had much of a point to begin with, but yeah I figured I'd prove it wrong anyway :|

Burning Crusade does add 2 new classes (Blood Elves and Dranie(something like that). Wrath of The Lich King adds a new class (The Death Knight). You do need a lvl 55 character on the server you want to create the Death Knight on.

Once you hit max lvl the game really does just begin. It is still fun in my opinion leveling with a group of people.

From my experience with LOTRO I felt like I was playing a different version of WoW the entire time. Everything was too similar. Even the interface looked almost exactly the same. Not to say that WoW breaks the mold, but it pushes it a lot more than LOTRO did. Not to mention the terrible PvP concept LOTRO has.

I don't play LoTRO. But I know it isn't about PvP. It's all PvE. The only reason I made a comment and sounded like an ass is all of the kiddys I see saying everything is a carbon copy of WoW and every other game sucks and Collision Detection is 4 teh n00bs. I hope this isn't considered trolling :(

You shouldn't make assumptions like that though. And fair enough about the PvP, but still... why include PvP then if its all about PvE?

It doesn't. You level up faster than in any other MMO. But of course you aren't able to blast through it within a weekend. They want your monthly fee after all. On topic: yes, it's fun for a while. But I wouldn't buy a new PC for it.

Yet people complain that paying $50 a year to play 100's of 360 titles online is too much..

$180 a year to play one game online is pretty tremendous, especially if you dont play it like a religion like most do

I learned to play play WoW in moderation now. I hardly play it anymore.

When you play an MMO like that, IT IS YOUR LIFE!!!

For an entire year, $180 really isn't much at all. If you don't feel the cost is justified, don't play the game. Simple as that. Just because you won't get the most value out of it doesn't mean its a ridiculous price.

Yet people complain that paying $50 a year to play 100's of 360 titles online is too much..

When you look at it like that yes it is.

I tend to look at things a different way.

Say you play WoW at least an Hour a day. Thats 365 hours a year. Thats 25 cents an hour.

Now one game=$60 you can get 3 games for the price of a yearly membership of WoW (180$)

Will you play those games for 365 hours? I dont think so.

It will take you about 7-8 games to rack up that much time. Now were looking at 350$ instead of 180$.

One other way to look at it. You spend 60$ a month buying 1 game a month. your looking at 720$ compared to 180$ WoW costs to play monthly.

If you would go by someone just starting out in WoW

To buy all 3 games is what $69

A whole year of supscription is $180

Thats $250 on ONE GAME to play for a year, if you play it for two years then thats $430, if you ever decide to quit WoW you just wasted almost $500 on ONE game

Also it will be more if you transfer to a different server which is $25 or if you want to change your name thats $10

It used to be my favorite game, I played it for 3 years with a total played time of almost a year. That is one third of all my time for 3 years in a game. However that was the original World of Warcraft. The new expansions really ruined the experience for me by taking everything I loved in the game and taking to the back and shooting it like a dog. I wouldn't say it is worth playing, however if you have friends playing it then go right ahead and try it out.

You can say the same thing about any other games. If I bought a game for 60$ then beat it and dont play it anymore, did you just waste 60$?

You also started to add extra fees. What if i wanted new maps for a game or DLC then your spending even more money on a single game.

If you don't feel like playing WoW anymore then you can cancel your account and continue it back up again whenever you like.

Lol you forgot a few things

You can rent games and who said you had to buy games at $60?, seriously I just bought Mass Effect at Gamestop for $14 used.

Don't let the door hit you on the way out.

Even if you can buy games for less money it still averages out to where WoW is more affordable than other games.

So you bought Mass Effect for 14$, your gonna get a week or two of play out of that game? Then What? You have to buy another game. Thats another 15$.

Im not even gonna comment on renting games, considering my whole argument was about buying games.

Seems to me like the door already hit you.

God no.

1. Too easy, most of it is mindless repetition. The only challenge is seeing how many hours you can go without sleep. Quests follow too many patterns, fetch this, kill 10 of those, repeat.

2. Too many annoying people run guilds, unless maybe you like taking orders from 12 year old brats and cranky fat housewives. This game has waaay too many casuals playing it. Just check out the videocompiler pranks for a preview.

3. For some people it is too addictive, even if they admit that it isn't that much fun. Kind of like gambling.

4. Takes too much time. This is probably the worst aspect of it. The game is designed to keep you on as long as possible. Half of your time is spent waiting for your group to show up. Watch your weekends disappear.

5. The monthly fee sucks.

6. The graphics are cartoony and dated.

7. It never ends.

If you are going to play anything I would say go with warhammer. It seems to draw a better crowd. But I would stay away from MMORPGs, especially if you aren't very social in real life. For such people it often becomes a life replacement which then ends up destroying their real life.

Yeah the 14 bucks for Mass Effect will get more play time than a month of WoW cause you know what I can pick up ME any time in the day or week and not feel like I need to play "catch up" or listen to a bunch of 16 year olds run a half *** raid, don't have to worry about boring grinding to get up to the actual game content, wait for 24 other people to log on so I can actually play the game I pay for.

So no WoW is not worth $15 for a half *** game. You can rent 3 games a month for $15 and get more satisfaction on playing more than one game.
