It amazes me that PC gamers spend a lot of money on their rigs just to play ugly games like PUBG

I remember for many years, PC gamers keep referring Crysis 1+2 as a big graphical marvel, and they were constantly and painfully using it as a high standard for comparing other games. Now, it seems like they stopped (thank god) because a lot of games now on console look decent enough to compete.

Yeah, it sure was tough for some console people to have Crysis in their face everytime they tried to claim graphics king for their console games. To be so utterly owned for so long must sting.

I hope Star Citizen becomes the new undefeated graphics king, it has been too boring this gen and I'm craving for some salt.

To compete with what? Crysis? Modded it still looks better than 99% of the Ps4 / xOne games out there. Same with many other modded games.

To topic: lol, who would have guessed a game that runs on a lot of system sells better than a game that only runs on a subset of systems strong enough for it? Besides that, what's wrong with a bad looking game, you still get a lot m,ore performance and the option to mod it to look much better. Also: Guess what, new 3DS games sell much worse than 3DS games.

When it comes to spending, a console gamer would also have a non-gaming computer (usually a laptop) of some sort because many are in that bracket where they need it.

A PC gamer can both game and make do with just the PC...obviously.

To me, prices would be equivalent for both sides.

I remember some study that showed that most PC gamers don't even use their max settings or have computers powerful enough to use them. They brag about all that power only to never use it.

Also most publishers don't even bother to make those max settings possible.

I agree, consoles have finally reached the point where they can compete with Crysis. The first game anyways.

It's about bloody time too, Crysis is 10 years old this November. Not to worry though we'll soon have Star Citizen to wave in your faces for a decade :)

PC gamers are playing: Minecraft, PUBG, Overwatch, CS GO, Indies, WOW, etc....basically games that are graphically outdated AF on their GTX 1080Tis. Why don't you guys demand more? Why don't you guys want games that actually take full advantage of your hardware? Such a waste. I remember when AAA budget PC exclusives was a thing. These days it looks like it's just the Total War games and no one else.

Most PC gamers are on laptops. thats why those games are populaire. because they run on everything. That has always been the case.

The 1080 ti owners are by far the minority.

AAA single player content died in the xbox360 age, people moved on towards other more interactive kind of experiences. Where they can actaully talk with eachother. This is where consoles tanked hard in the PS3/xbox360 area.

Most people play massive online games / or small competitive games when it comes to PC gaming.

Also gaming on PC works differently then on consoles.

While consoles marketing buzz words are something people spend there time on, on PC department that isn't the case.

30/60fps, 4k isn't much interesting for PC gamers that play for example CS GO. They will wait to focus on 1080p/1440p at a max and 200-300fps. This requires still a high end PC to do that.

This is spoken like somebody who's never been part of the PC community. If you were you would know the vast majority of PC gamers simply build gaming computers they can afford and only upgrade when they have too. The top 1% of PC gamers are the ones who upgrade yearly and flaunt it on the forms and skew the perception of the PC gaming audience as a whole.

Out of my rather large group of PC gamers that I play with, I can count on one hand the amount of people who have a high end GPU. The vast majority rock mid range and would never pay over $250 for a GPU.

The enthusiasts don't define the community. I like having the best of the best. I like to play at 1440p144hz and will move that to 4k in the near future. This requires some serious horsepower on my end to achieve smoothly. This is unnecessary to play PC games. All you need is a decent 1080p60 monitor (which is cheap) and a mid-range card to enjoy every single game on the market. I don't pretend my own indulgence in PC gaming is the norm.

The only reason PC gamers did that is because console gamers would tout their video game graphics and try to claim that their games were graphics king or whatever. If you are referring to these forums, it's because they did it to themselves. They especially did it with Uncharted 2. Every week was another "Uncharted 2 graphics king" until they finally knocked it into their brain to write "Uncharted 2 console graphics king".

They also did it with Uncharted 4 as well. And this is coming from a person who actually like the game and even then, I saw the limitation. Uncharted 4 indeed looks good for a console game, but things like the lack of AF, forced chromatic aberration and forced motion blur does bring it down a lot. Rise of the Tomb Raider on PC looks a lot better, BTW, and even The Witcher 3 (maxed) looks better than Uncharted 4.

Main reason i dislike console games in general, the motion blur is just a pain to look at.

I also hate stuff that nintendo did with the wii-u, the over the top bloom effect that PC games did in the early 10's. Almost like looking in a lightbulb. Absolute terrible.

DOF is another thing, that on consoles specifically gets overused to the point everything being a blurr fest everywhere.

Example:

@Gatygun: Yeah, some effects can be too much. The one that bothers me is film grain. Not sure why this is a new thing that they try to put on every new game.

At least with PC, we have the option to turn everything off or on. For example, Skyrim originally didn't have land shadows, but you can turn them on in the .ini file on PC version. Made a huge difference in graphical fidelity.

1. I give it a year before Consoles beg for PUBG and get clones of it, and it becomes the next big genre on consoles. You love our table scraps. We innovate.

2. Yes, pc has simple games. But it also has gfx kings. Something for everyone.

3. Have fun with your worse version of 99% of multiplats, 30fps and lower, crappy online, and significantly smaller yearly library.

lol. Console fanboys used to claim that graphics aren't everything when they go against PC, but deep inside they know that they care about presentation and graphics more then anything.

Nevermind that games like ArmA 3 have sold over 3 million and Black Desert Online has sold over 530,000 copies so far and not to mention that the game is F2P in Russia, Japan, and Korea.

Yeah, a lot of them are hypocrites. One of them makes a thread saying their multiplat looks better on their PS4 than on the Xbone, and then a PC gamer comes in and says, "It looks the best on my system." And then they say, "Well, graphics don't matter." And then we get threads like this. It's just funny.

From what I've read, yes they are if you are running an HDD. Not sure if it'll provide SSD speeds, but it's supposed to be much better with the cache system.

There are about as many high end pc gamers as there are ps4 owners. Most pc gamers play on mid end hardware, which still putpaces even the 1x and quad pro.

No, it isn't on Console yet -> so what I stated has not happened yet.

It will be, and it will be the next big thing. and tons of clones.

Like shooters, mmo, adventure, open world, online multiplayer, horror, etc. Console is just a dumping ground.

So im assuming you're a console gamer... does that mean you only play games that push your consoles hardware to the max all the time?

You never play flash games, older games, etc?

I definitely don't waste my time playing games that look 10+ years old.

Well that is kind of part of your problem. Just because a game was made 10+ years ago doesn't mean it sucked.

And yes, it does take a good processor to run older games nowadays, but that's because a lot is going on just with the multiplayer and randomly-generated portions of these games. They are constantly being tweaked and have new content released for them, requiring a better computer.

I got my computer in 2013 or so. I can't play very many games on it though, because while the overall package has decent RAM, HD, and a worthy enough graphics card, my processor is under 2 Ghz.

So basically no one was able to give me a straight answer...where are the damn AAA PC exclusives? So all this PC talk is nothing but a cock measuring contest?

You already got the answer you seek and now you're gonna change the subject?

1. I give it a year before Consoles beg for PUBG and get clones of it, and it becomes the next big genre on consoles. You love our table scraps. We innovate.

PUBG has already been announced to come to consoles in 2017

So my prediction was true.

I wish the next big thing on consoles was not always table scraps of PC genres.

you can't make a prediction for something that's already happened

do you even game on PC? or just trying to make PC gamers look bad?

No, it isn't on Console yet -> so what I stated has not happened yet.

It will be, and it will be the next big thing. and tons of clones.

Like shooters, mmo, adventure, open world, online multiplayer, horror, etc. Console is just a dumping ground.

It's not a prediction if it's already announced and happening

Do you even have a gaming PC? or a console for gaming?

But I didn't know that. So my estimation was correct. Also I predicted it will be the next big thing and spawn multiple clones on console. Those 2 things have not been announced. So far one of my estimations was 100% correct, and 2 more will come to pass. Like most console fads, they spawn from PC table scraps. Only crappy versions at 20 fps.

And Yes.

You're just naming things that have already happened, or are happening. Those aren't predictions or estimations

And what FPS do you play at?

Now as for the topic itself, there are two flaws I could easily point out;

1. Do you know that all players of PUBG, WOW, Minecraft, etc... are playing with GTX 1080's? Or even 1070's for that matter? Chances are many who play low demanding games do so on budget builds, as those can service their gaming needs just fine. PC gaming unlike with consoles isn't a unified cost. The variation in hardware builds and subsequently the product costs is a vastly wide spectrum. Not every custom PC comes to a tab of $3000.

2. Even if someone with a high spec build plays those games, it's not like they don't have plenty of graphically intense games to choose from, or that they limit themselves to just PUBG. They get to enjoy the full palette of games graphics, and to their fullest. If they're spending that much on their machine you can be sure they're also playing Witcher 3, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Ghost Recon Wildlands, Titanfall 2, DOOM, Battlefield 1, Metro, Stalker, or what have you, in addition to the low spec games. They don't have to limit their selection.

Either way it's all about options. Options, options, OPTIONS. Which is the real value of PC gaming.

Excellent post, but why Stalker is on the list? It's 2017, the series is not that demanding anymore, and as much as I love them, Stalker games look ugly as shit by modern standards. Crysis and Battlefield games surpassed them years ago.

These days it looks like it's just the Total War games and no one else.

this is what I play on pc

can't wait for this pc exclusive

I basically just upgrade my PC when I need to so I can keep playing modern games. It's not really to make the games look better, because honestly, games have looked good enough for at least 10 years now. It's the same with consoles, really. I'd be perfectly fine if the Xbone and PS4 never released and all modern games were still on the 360 and PS3. I only upgraded because games don't still get made for the 360 and PS3. It would be great if modern games with weaker specs could be played on older consoles like they can on older PCs, though.

Again....why does the game have to be an exclusive for it to count?
