LG sued Sony first and it backfired. And Sony is notorious for counting anything that leaves the factory as 'shipped'. Again, compare the quarterly reports for any year against the 'predictions' and they are dead on. Being THAT accurate in their predictions for so many quarters is obviously due to their counting method. It's easy to produce 100,000 consoles at the factory then immediately count them as 'shipped'. I could guess the fourth quarter 'shipped' numbers with that system.KC_Hokie
Exact same thing is happening with Microsoft and Motorola.

So basically you're just tinfoil hatting.

Sony very publically switched to accounting for sales using sell-in, compared to the accounting method used during the PS2 error.

During the PS2 error, Sony counted anything that shipped to regional distribution as part of Cumulative Product Shipments of Hardware.

From FY2006 they changed their accounting practice, and now only count products sell-in, i.e. sold-to-retail as Hardware Unit Sales.

If you've nothing to support your claim whatsoever, then I suggest you stop making it.

?...no. Patent infringement doesn't 'happen to everyone'.

Did you not see that giant chart of tech company lawsuits?

Motorola is suing Microsoft over patents related to the 360.

Are you talking about that pic that keeps getting posted? The arrow is pointing to Motorola which means MS is suing Motorola not the other way around. It also does not say anything about the 360.

The funniest thing about this is that Sony started the fight by picking on LG, so LG decided to slap them with a bunch of patent law suits in return. Someone in Sony's legal department has definitely been fired. Silly corporations, leave each other alone. :P

Microsoft sued Motorola for unfair licensing terms. Motorola is countersuing for patent infringement as at Dec 2010.

Companies sued Nintendo over the Wiimote.

A WiFi company is suing Nintendo, Sony and Apple.

Technology patents are basically a giant quagmire.

Look at charts of predicted quarterly shipped units and actual for the last several years. They are dead on accurate. Nostradamus couldn't have done better. You don't have to be Sherlock Holmes to see their system is padded bigtime.

These stories come up all the time, theres always some patent troll who patents a whole bunch of potentially unused ideas, waits for some other product to become popular, and sues them. Its **** like this that should be as illegal as the actual infringement.

I have no idea what you are talking about sorry but if there was not some series merit to LG's claim then the judge would not have ruled for LG's favor. I mean seriously PS3 shipment would not have been halted and tens of thousands of PS3 already siezed because someone just trying to make a quick buck.

Why didn't LG sue when they released the damn ps3 then.... instead of waiting until now.

[QUOTE="Snakemaster9"]

[QUOTE="KC_Hokie"]$30+ million loss is a good estimate for a week and a half's worth of PS3s going into Europe. And I think PSN+ is only going to be free for so long. Less than one half of one percent of PS3 users have purchased it so far. MS on the other hand makes over a billion off Xbox Live subscriptions alone. KC_Hokie

PSN+ isn't free and then you said that you can buy it. TYPOO :D

And of course MS makes more money cause nowadays more people play online. COD, Halo, almost every game nowadays have a MP option. Soo if PS became pay to play then more people would get it, know what I mean?

PSN is only going to be free for so long I meant due to the failure of PSN+. And MS makes over a billion dollars on Xbox Live subscriptions ALONE. Sony's executives see that and know what revenue they are losing. PSN+ was their attempt to attract some PS3 users but it's a total failure.

Why wouldn't they make that much on it. 50 million Xboxes and lets just say 30 million have XBL at a rate of 30$ per year is 900 million soo. :X And thats just 30 dollars with 30 million. But yeah I think they are either gonna start charging or do something completely unexpected

They are trying to sue SOny because Sony tried to sue them first. They probably were trying to handle it out of court in a more cival way but when Sony tried to sue them they took the kiddy gloves off.

[QUOTE="3rdbass"]

[QUOTE="KC_Hokie"]Sony counts 'shipped' so more than likely yes.KC_Hokie

They can't count these as the retailers are going to want there money back since they can't sell them. Sony will have reimburse them and thus it won't count as sold. Remeber Sony is a public company and thus these units aren't actually sold to theretailer until they actually receive suck product theyhave bought.Sucks for Sony. I hope it doesn't happen in the US or otherwise I might just buy my 3rd PS3 just to be on the safe side.

Sony's counting system is internal and notorious for counting 'shipped' consoles. So the second they're 'shipped' they're counted as a PS3 out there in the market.

Sony is only "notorious" because foolish fanboys don't understand how the system works. No console manufacturer counts the actual sales of their console. Because for the console manufacturer, it's only a sale for them when it's shipped to the stores - not when individual consoles are bought.

sony wont be allowed to sell ps3s in europe this is gonna hurt ,

looks like its wii and 360 over there like it is here as it is lol

all ps3 has its hands in is japan back and forth with wii lol

wii has totally pulled all the stops those denying this will prove nothing more then blind fanboys cause you know what it happened before -eg ps2 ps1 nes snes the console with the least powerful graphics least expensive and more overall games has won the race ! 360 is a good side console --which is why it to is selling good in many regions , ps3 meh only in japan does it top

Im sorry but do you ride on the shortbus? ITS SONY BUSINESS TO F'ing KNOW HOW MANY UNITS THEY ARE GOING TO SHIP!! If they didnt I would be worried just a bit. Besides, like that one dude said. ALL 3 console makers use the shipped (sold) to retailers numbers as "sold". Because in reality they are. Sony sells the console shipments to retailers. At this time they are the retailers responsibility to sell them. Sony has already sold them to the retailer. You people need to think a bit bigger. Sony isnt messing with one sold here, two sold their. They deal with tens of thousands shipped to regions. Once they are sold to retailers. Sony has the money for those consoles, they are "Sold' in sony's eyes.theseeker2654

See, you take that one sentence and latch onto it for dear life. Because when it comes down to it you dont have the mental capacity to actually respond to what I am saying. If you had read my post and actually UNDERSTOOD it. Then you would know I am not claiming firsthand knowledge of anything. Im not saying that this movie taught me everything I need to know regarding this situation. I am now a corporate lawyer and can try this case. Thats not what I said. To rephrase my previous statement for the mentally challenged (rybe1025). The movie Informant opened my eyes to the world of corporations. The movie merely got me looking into recent price fixing and illegal activities of corporations. It got me thinking beyond what I had previously thought I knew and made be realize that basically any corporation is willing to do almost anything to make money. Thats all I was saying. If you cant understand that then I feel sorry for your parents. Because your a **** moron.

I feel more knowledgable just seeing the pic. Thank you for recommendeding the movie

The tag line should be watch this and you will be a expert in all corparate law.

If LG win this Sony will have to pay them a small fee for every PS3 sold. Even if it is only a couple of dollars per unit, it adds up to a big hit for Sony, and a nice boost for LG shareholders.

So basically you're just tinfoil hatting.

Sony very publically switched from accounting for sales as sell-in, compared to the accounting method used during the PS2 error.

Sony does not count sales. They count shipped from their factories as 'shipped.

Am not sure what you are trying to argue, its against the law for Sony to count those in their report if they don't make retail. In fact Ms and Nintendo are no different from Sony, they all report sold to retailers, cause none know actual sales to customers.
